Hey I know they're small, but when uploading the pics, please also add {{TV-screenshot}} or {{Promotional}} if its an official pic from the ep by the photographer. Cheers, --Nickb123 (Talk) 07:54, 11 April 2007 (PDT)
Hey thanks for all your capping. Looks brilliant! Now I'll just let Dagg and Lost Soul do their specific templates for it. Cheers again, --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:48, 11 April 2007 (PDT)

Little favour

Hey Technic, was wondering if you could help me make a little portal pic for one of the Lost Experience pages. I've recently expanded the Project Sumo article, and have included it on this portal Portal:Lost Experience Themes. However, I want it to have its own image thumb instead of Apollo, and would like it to be either Image:Sumo.jpg or Image:Sumo2.jpg. But, I can't make it work lol. Could you possibly help me by making one into a thumb? Thanks so much dude, EDIT: Also MrLeaf keeps going on about Pryce and Sabine portal pics being in need of a redo on the Others portal. If you're not busy... can I just continue to be really cheeky haha! Seriously though, anything you can do would be great, thanks --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:49, 13 April 2007 (PDT)

Cheers for that, looks a lot better now. I think the Others one actually is just poor quality image thumbs, so I dunno if you can high quality cap? I think whoever mentioned it just meant they needed a better resolution, so no big if capping isn't your area. Thanks again, --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:06, 14 April 2007 (PDT)
Hey I got something else actually... you know its your own fault for saying you don't mind lol. Nah its just like before, I jus need another 60x90 version of the following: Image:Fleetcontract1.jpg. Its for the DaimlerChrysler Corporation thumb under Portal:Lost Experience Themes, which at the mo is just a Hanso logo. Cheers mate, --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:47, 14 April 2007 (PDT)
You the man, lol. Thanks, and yeah I like how you changed that DaimlerChrysler thing, it was boring before. Cheers, --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:46, 15 April 2007 (PDT)

More Thumb Images...

Hey Technic, was wondering if you could do two extra thumbs for me??? I just need them this size Image:Tlechar-rachel.jpg, and the pics are Image:Jamiesilberhartz.jpg and, either Image:Hanso login.jpg or Image:Caltech.jpg (depending on which you think would be better). Thanks so much for all your help these last couple of weeks! --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:57, 22 April 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for those, --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:58, 22 April 2007 (PDT)
Nah sounds good, if it loads quicker than its a plus point. I do actually have another job that you could help with if you want (be cool to have your input). There's talk of doing a new Lost Experience portal under the name like Portal:TLE. We already have a portal for characters, themes and websites, and the idea is to have one portal with three links to go into each subportal, if you get me. I was thinking of like just doing a page with three big images, underneath each just the caption of "Characters", etc. You any good at templating and using ClickA? There images I was thinking of maybe were Image:Jamiesilberhartz.jpg (characters), Image:Badtwin.jpg (themes), and Image:LYCGY.jpg (websites). I'd love to hear any suggestions you have though on a different format, etc. Please lemme know if you have time to come up with anything! --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:18, 22 April 2007 (PDT)
No a montage sounds awesome, good idea. My only worry though is that it'd have to look pretty cool to work. You know like maybe Photoshop-y good to have like a DHARMA background with superposed pics above it. Are you any good at making montages? But then again, I guess just pics together would look OK, I dunno, I'd like to see an eg definitely - it's a more interesting idea than just one boring image. --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:41, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
Haha, thats fun. I was thinking though of a rectangle shape for the three montage pics. Cause then they can all three fit on one line or something? The way you've shopped them looks cool, but I think the shape needs to change like I say, to maybe a plain black background (then the middle one could show the black and red Hanso logo in the middle and stuff). I might have a quick go on Paint or something later and upload it as a sort of design idea. Naturally it'll look awful but it'll give some indication of what I'm tryin to say lol --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:57, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
Haha so I realise I don't have Paint on my Mac (le dur), so I did it on OpenOffice - which I've never done before so forgive me (actually its kinda cool, I learned how to tilt pics!). Anyway, see the image Image:TLE_portal.jpg - as you can see I chose 3 column-like images and would want em together on one row - and then just filled in pics. Lemme know if you think you could make something like this only naturally betterly done --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:02, 23 April 2007 (PDT)
Hey, since our last discussion, I was thinking maybe just small lines? Like a banner saying Main Description, Characters, etc. I saw this user's page and thought it might be a more simple clean idea to do something like that. Maybe have the lines a bit thicker though, enough to add a small pic on either end or something? I'll leave the creative inspiration to you as you're doing it, but that sort of design might look good. Whatever really, I'm open to whatever you come up with --Nickb123 (Talk) 07:15, 8 May 2007 (PDT)
yeah template might be better than stacked landscape images. A gif flick-through sounds cool. See some of the pics I did originally for for some ya could possibly pinch if you wanted to Image:TLE portal.jpg, Image:Nick page4.jpg, Image:Nick page5.jpg. --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:30, 8 May 2007 (PDT)

Re:Themes Template

  • Ya, sorry. It should be working now. We we're trying out a new way to implement template:ep as the current one uses to much space and is to big and causes problems with the numbers of templates that we are able to use on each page (see Crimes at the bottom as the crossrefs just stop working). Dagg helped us find a way to get about 10 times more templates (ep templates) per page than it was currently allowing. However the new template:ep seemed to hijack some of the relating templates and cause them to not work. I've reverted now, so everything should be fine. -Mr.Leaf 18:14, 29 April 2007 (PDT)

Ironic shirt

I'd only say "ironic shirt" because it seems the producers were purposefully playing with the concept of "redshirts" - the irony is the shirt being blue in a redshirt character, hence, an ironic blue shirt. The way you put it is indeed better in language, but I'm not sure it preserves the meaning I intended earlier... Maybe there's a mid-term? -- -. Grillage .- 21:06, 18 May 2007 (PDT)

Ben's Name

I reverted your reversion because I consider your justifications spurious. The flight took off at 14:15 local time, crashed 8 hours later in an unknown location and Jack woke up in daylight some indeterminate time after that. By my reckoning there's no canon justification for saying Jack woke up any other day than Sep 23. I'm familiar with the concept of apophenia, but considering a TV show where the producers have said characters are not named whimsically and where several biblical and/or religious references have already been observed, I don't see a mention of Saint Linus as particularly more far-fetched than any other name reference. If you'd like to make a case for either of your arguments, the talk page is more appropriate than summary deletion. --Bastion 10:44, 7 April 2008 (PDT)

  • I think you missed a bit of phrasing that I used. I'm not debating the date of the crash, I'm talking about the date that Jack awoke. The plane crashed several hours after a mid-afternoon takeoff and to the best of our knowledge did so on the Australian side of the international dateline. So I claim that the crash took place relatively late at night on Sep 22. But Jack woke up in daylight, so that has to be Sep 23. --Bastion 07:27, 10 April 2008 (PDT)
  • Bastion, the crash didn't take place "relatively late at night", evidenced by its viewing from the barracks when it interrupted a book club meeting. Also, Ben told Ethan and Goodwin that they could make it to the beach before nightfall if they ran, supporting it was earlier in the day. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 18:45, 10 April 2008 (PDT)

1 Day Ban

You know full well that attacking a SysOp directly, and blatantly identifying them by adding comments (which by the way are attributed to no-one) that appear on their user page, would lead to action like this. Next time, if your going to make a pop at someone, make it ambiguous, not explicit.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  06:14, 14 April 2008 (PDT)

Well, although I’d anticipated that you wouldn’t see the funny the side, I’d supposed you would just turn the other cheek, as it was a rather discreet comment tucked away at the bottom of my user page. Having said that, it most certainly wasn’t intended to be abusive, harassment or intimidation as stated in the ban reasons, and I am genuinely sorry if you actually saw it as any of those things. All it was intended to be was a reaction to what felt like a petulant and unnecessary comment that didn’t deserve to go unchallenged. The way that I chose to address it was by satirising it, rather than starting up a lengthy debate or complaining that it was an inappropriate comment particularly for a SysOp.

And as it turned out, the reaction was not only the perfect illustration of what I was objecting to, but also the perfect punchline.

That, and providing the above link for posterity really made me chuckle. I’m also grateful to the users who dropped me a line when they noticed the ban. Thanks--TechNic|talk|conts 18:48, 17 April 2008 (PDT)

UN

Hi Nic. I'm responding here to prevent confusing Dagg any further than he already is. Strictly speaking, UN is a story device; it's used to analyse the entire story. Things happen in the story which lead us toward believing it cannot be trusted to reveal the truth to us, and we therefore begin to doubt the entire story and review it in a new light. But we do not point to one scene or one chapter, and say that chapter or that scene is UN. We cannot rightly point to one episode or one part of an episode, saying that particular bit of the story is UN. It's just not accurate, and we are supposed to be encyclopaedic. I do think it's possible to have unreliable narration, where the camera can be the narrator. So Lost could be UN because there are parts leading us astray until we are brought back, but the parts themselves are not defined by UN. They are plot twists, surprise endings (of episodes), etc. that tease us, manipulate us, and then reveal the "reality", making us look back and say "wth???", and re-examine what we just saw. Memento uses the technique where there isn't an outright narrator who is disconnected from the plot. However, again, it's not just bits and pieces of the story, but the entire story we analyse. We can't point to where Leonard sticks his wife with the needle in Memento and say "that scene is UN", but we can say the entire movie employed the UN device because we were led to believe one thing throughout nearly the entire movie, then told something completely different with the ending. The DVD gave a version where you could watch the scenes in chronological order, and it becomes very clear when you know the "reality", there were clues strung throughout the movie to tell us it wasn't telling us the truth. So, long-windedly, yes, I think there can be camera usage, but none of this can be exampled within Lost. And when it is used, it often is not nearly as effective as it is in a book, because nuances of the actors and body language can give it away too soon. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 10:33, 27 April 2008 (PDT)

LOL :). See here. In a nutshell, "Plot (e.g. man vs. the Island, man vs. man, man vs. himself) involves the multiple events which present the story and lead us toward making assumptions and inferences".-- LOSTonthisdarnisland 21:27, 27 April 2008 (PDT)

Policies

  • Hey TN thanks for your initiative. I've been real short on time lately, and will be for the foreseeable future. I will take a look when I can but I remember many of the policies in progress were very far from ready, and in general I am not of the opinion it's for the good of the site (in its current stage of growth) will benefit from institutionalizing some of these policies, since as the site evolves we have been also been adjusting site policy on the fly (sometimes drastically) as unforeseen needs have demanded. I would imagine after things slow down during the upcoming broadcast hiatus, details like policy decisions may have a chance to move forward. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  15:10, 15 May 2008 (PDT)

Charladay

Greetings -

Granted the article isn't up to theory standards, but I was more interested in the idea than the format. The producers are spending too much time showing us little things for those things to mean nothing. If I can ever catch up with the mail I ask Lostpedia to send me<g>, I might try to make a case somewhere.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 09:02, 17 May 2008 (PDT)

I'm aware of the signature button, so need to inform me. And there was no need for any discussion on the new logo, as the one you put back up is inaccurate. If you choose to think otherwise, then be my guest. But I suggest you take your own advice and look carefully at Ben's parka in "The Shape of Things to Come". Here are two of the most popular shots, which show absolutely no "Dharma" word on the logo.[1][2]

If you can, please point out where you see "Dharma". It might actually give your comment some support. Daniel's sketch may have just been a "doodle", but it was still accurate. --Alpha 22:10, 17 May 2008 (PDT)

I don't see how me not adding a signature on the talk page of my own work implies that I don't know about the feature. But anyway, I was basing my "no 'Dharma'" claim on the pictures provided on the page for the logo, which include the two I posted above. These are VERY misleading, and I would suggest removing them and using the protocol image to better compliment the actual logo. I apologize, as I was in the wrong, but I have to say that I had no means of "proof" other than the images on the page for the logo. The protocol was mentioned as including the "Dharma" name, but I was unaware a page was dedicated to it that included an actual screen shot. --Alpha 23:06, 17 May 2008 (PDT)
Sounds fine. I didn't include my signature the first time around because I didn't really mean to post the notice under talk, but no problem. --Alpha 00:07, 18 May 2008 (PDT)

Thanks for pointing out that policy. For the record, I am adding the UAC nav in an effort to de-orphan pages. I am only adding UAQ nav to pages that have a theories page, but no navigation to the page. If people have written on the theories page, then obviously there's UAQ about the article's subject. You recently voted no on the suggestion to have the Monster Theories as a featured article. I could do a clean up job on that article, seeing as I've been doing that for a while anyway.
