First of all, I want to thank all of the people who have transcribed the podcasts. I know how much time and energy goes into such work, and clearly people have taken great care in being extremely precise.

However, I have found the transcripts to be less readable than I would like, perhaps because the dialogue is transcribed too precisely. While painstaking accuracy is admirable, I believe readability should also be part of the goal. To this end, adding in every laugh or cough is rarely necessary. The same can be said with each "um" or stammer.

Therefore, I would like to edit the podcast transcriptions to remove items that hinder the readability of the conversation, which is in line with standard interview editorial style. (As an example/reference point, I point to the Onion AV Club interview with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse [1] where you will find no "um"s.) I will take great care to leave in the main body of text, changing things that would not be noticed by the reader, and never eliminating anything that would change the meaning of the speech.

Should anyone object to this line of edits, please let me know.

While I think you should check with someone higher up than I am before beginning your transcript thing, I would advise moving the above text to your user page. The talk page is for other users to communicate with you. Thanks. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  16:27, 29 June 2008 (PDT)

Thanks for the tip. I'm new to editing Lostpedia, so if the above comment is not also on my user page (like I intended), then I've done something wrong and could use a tip on how to make that happen. --GrammarGal 17:04, 29 June 2008 (PDT)
I'll take care of it for you. Your user page is the link in your signature. This is your talk page. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  17:10, 29 June 2008 (PDT)
Thanks. Looks like there are a lot of details to learn when becoming an editor here. If there are any good beginner pages that you think would be helpful, please let me know. --GrammarGal 10:31, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
Here's good page to help you get started: Help:Contents. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  10:38, 1 July 2008 (PDT)

Sorting by last name

When you were sorting guest stars by their last name, you were placing them into a nonexistant category. To sort them by their last name (for all categories), simply type this in (replacing lastname and firstname with the actual names): {{DEFAULTSORT:Lastname, firstname}} -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:25, 1 July 2008 (PDT)

Haha, leave the nowiki tag out. Just everything in between those two nowiki tags. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:30, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
Ugh, and this is my fault, but it's supposed to be a comma instead of a |. I've changed it above. Sorry once again. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:32, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
Heh. I'll get the hang of this yet. Looks like the names are all good now. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GrammarGal (talkcontribs) .
Yeah, you will. Good edits, by the way. That needed to be done a long time ago. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:33, 1 July 2008 (PDT)
I may not ever write my own article, but I'll be correcting little things as I come across them. Just noticed the list of Cast Stubs—are these also all people who need alphabetizing?
No, these are people who need more information added to their page. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:41, 1 July 2008 (PDT)

Interview portal

I reverted your edit on the interview portal for the following reason: these interviews aren't ready yet. When they are, however, they will be added into the portal. If all the interviews that have been confirmed but not completed were added, it would be wasted space for months. Jorge's interview will not be posted until November, and Grobler's until October. But thanks for taking an interest in the interviews, and feel free to submit questions to Keir O'Donnell here. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  18:59, 28 July 2008 (PDT)

Makes sense. I didn't realize those interviews were for the future. Out of curiosity: for making the faces fit into the portal boxes, does a new images need to be created and uploaded, or is there something else to be done? --GrammarGal 19:07, 28 July 2008 (PDT)
Generally, a new image is cropped and done. It's just easier that way. If the image has the object of focus up in the left corner, it can be used without any method, otherwise, a new image is needed. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  19:12, 28 July 2008 (PDT)

Nice job with all the grammar corrections. Keep up the great work! -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 20:28, 3 August 2008 (PDT)
