Need some help

Hi I'm new and I was wondering can you help me make one of those picture boxes.--Lostman98 13:20, 6 February 2007 (PST)

Hey, congrats on the new admin thing. Nice to see one more guy with the power to do some ass kicking. --Minderbinder 07:53, 25 November 2006 (PST)

Finally!....this a credit that you deserved looong ago dude, congrats ! -- 07:59, 25 November 2006 (PST)
Heh, I was just thinking before you msg'd me: (Some Sysop will soon be on my tail, now that I've been clustering the updates table with a zillion re-uploads of the same image), but I'm pretty glad it was you :) Well, thanks a lot but actually I'm done with the image, it is just that I'm currently re-writing the religions page, and I got to the Islam section, so I'm trying to keep it symmetric to the sections done so far, in terms of Images, so I kept re-editing the image and uploading it to be well proportioned and to let space for another one to add...pretty silly, I know :) Anyways, once again thanks and I confirm that you won't see the same "breeds" image again for a while :) -- 13:53, 25 November 2006 (PST)

Just wanted to say congrats; good job. As stated above, you deserved this 100%. David 22:18 25 November 2006 (PST)

  • indeed. congrats! don't smite too often or too hard! with great power comes great responsibility even if you're dealing with gross stupidity a lot of the time. --kaini. 21:47, 26 November 2006 (PST)

Hey Cap'n, what's going on? --SilvaStorm

Yeah, I'm fine thanks mate. You good? --SilvaStorm
That's, uh, good! What you been up to lately? --SilvaStorm

Deleting theories question

Who is elligible to delete theories from an article's theory page? The Rope bridge/Theories page contains a particuarly illogical theory, but I dont want to delete it if Im not supposed to. (The one Im talking about is the theory that the bridge leads to Hydra Island. Hurley and Charlie crossed the brige and did not end up on the other island.) --Slugless 11:59, 3 December 2006 (PST)

Have a look here, Captain! --SilvaStorm

Thanks Cap

Alright brotha, good work, just tryin' to help out. If you do need help, just lemme know. You deserve a medal or something. CastorTroy 17:38, 3 December 2006 (PST)

User:The Right Honourable Bob is attacking Lostpedia!!--LOCI!

Hey cap, I was just curious about the theory of Sawyer representing capitalist Economics being pulled as spec. That's about the only thing on that theory page that I thought wasn't spec. The line above it was something about Sawyer being raised by his uncle who had a tumor, or possibly being raised in foster car. As far as bodies of evidence go, I thought the economics one fit solidly as a theory, but maybe I'm off. Why did you think it didn't fit there? Thanks! -BearDog 14:25, 12 December 2006 (PST)

Thanks, I was just wondering. I'm still not sure how to classify that either. It's not uncommon for characters to represent philosophies within a piece of literature, but it's a difficult task that television doesn't usually attempt. If that's really what the writers intended, then they've done a fantastic job of creating a symbolic character that's still believable! Still, we can't really call it a fact until they fess up to it, I suppose... -BearDog 16:37, 12 December 2006 (PST)

Please advise

Hi, I think you are not around now, so I appreciate your advice on the following when you come back. It seems that what started as a discussion between me and Santa on a page's structure, has now changed into a heated debate posted on my talk page and his. I have requested a number of times now to stop posting heated comments at my talk page, which provokes a reply, but I'm sorry to say he repeatedly ignored that. I could have replied to the last one posted moments ago, but I just felt I'll only fuel the problem further. Hence, this is not at all a report of my incident with Santa, whom I highly respect his work and contributions, but a request for the advice of a trusted third part. I really feel that refraining from direct communication at the moment, would serve us best in moving on. I appreciate your advice on the topic, Thanks-- 13:56, 14 December 2006 (PST)

I like to believe we are :) To be honest we all were, specially for me with the exams, which I have finally finished! In all cases, Santa has been always more nice than anything. Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays :)-- 07:34, 16 December 2006 (PST)

  • Do you think we need a [[Help:Sigs]] article? All about creating the /sig and /autosig subpages, which prefs to change, and how many tildes to use? Thus far all of the information is scattered and repeated on various user talk pages. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  00:00, 17 December 2006 (PST)

Lost Moments

  • Just wanted to drop a note that I've re-added the spoiler template to the Lost Moments page, after the last (Dec 14) Lost Moments. Other fan sites have apparently done the same. Anyways, I saw that you argued for removing the spoiler tag in earlier discussion in November, so I wanted to double check what you opinion is, whether you think the situation has changed enough to merit the spoiler tag. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  03:28, 17 December 2006 (PST)

Thanks Cap'n, I hadn't noticed I'd set that up wrong. Happy Christmakwanzukkuh! (Or just Merry Christmas, depending...) :) -BearDog 13:18, 19 December 2006 (PST)

Just noticed the mainpage discussion. Feel free to delete that if it annoys, I was making a substantial change that took me a while, and I didn't want to muck up the article while it happened, but I'm done now. -BearDog 13:21, 19 December 2006 (PST)
Actually, I do have a general question regarding subpages. I tried to make a template for something on my sandbox page, just as a suggestion, and linked to it in a conversation. I don't think anybody bit on the idea, but I'm wondering how long I should leave it on there. What I really wanted when I made the scratchpaper page was my sandbox. I did something similar with scratchpaper1, because somebody wanted anchors in transcripts so I made a temporary one to let people try it out. Is there a better way to handle temporary pages (the actual transcripts are obviously locked- except for season 3 episodes 4-6, for some reason...)? Is there a more common way of accomplishing that? Thanks again. -BearDog 13:30, 19 December 2006 (PST)

BMW 5 series or 7 series

  • Now am sure Jin's BMW is the same as Tom Brennan's BMW. See the external link URLs in the Automobiles article for photos of the prop, which has damage from both episodes on the same vehicle. So is this a 7 series or a 5 series? Cheers and Happy Holidays! -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  01:24, 23 December 2006 (PST)

Sorry about that. I looked up the actor after the post kept getting changed. I think there's an extra that has lurked in the background that looked similar to Paulo then. This is my first day on Lostpedia. Is there a page dedicated to the extras that can be seen in the background? I'm curious as to who I was confusing Santoro with.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by JustRoc (talkcontribs) .

On Walt Mission

  • Hah, OK, I'd just like to make my point here though with you, though, since I can't put the whole thing in the summary. I'd argue it's different from your special ops example (which I agree, would have been a success), because in that case, the document would not have been obtained without the mission. In Walt's case, he was saved by his father's betrayel of his friends, not by the mission itself. The goal of the mission itself was to bring Walt back, not to put him on a boat in exchange for their capture. That's my argument and I stick to it :) But I'll leave the page alone, because I don't think it's worth an edit war over it... there's not really that much difference between blue font and green font to me. --PandoraX 14:50, 6 January 2007 (PST)
  • You know, that's actually a good point about who started it (though Mike is not considered an A-Team guy, and I guess we can see why after this betrayel). I think I was thinking more from the perspective of the A-Team members. Cheers, Cap. --PandoraX 14:57, 6 January 2007 (PST)

Favor to ask of you

As SysOp, can you fix something that regular users (like me) cannot, even when they spot an error (I know the answer is yes)? On the Portal:Themes page, there are three themes that link incorrectly. They are Deceptions and Cons which leads to Children, Salvation leads to Pregnancies and Eyes links to Electromagnetism. Thanks so much for your help--i posted a general response at first on the discussion page and 0 SysOps responded. David 04:02, 9 January 2007 (PST)

Ok sorry, thought it would be ok as it didn't fit anywhere, thought it was spam. Ok though :) --lewisg 11:27, 9 January 2007 (PST)

There is a user named Wattage. I don't know the exact rules for vandalism, but he keeps making references to "boobs" and that general area in the female anatomy on talk pages. I don't know if this is considered vandalism, however, it is making me more than a little annoyed. If you would check it out, please. I also PMed you on the forum.--LOCI!

Unanswered questions

Regarding not putting these on episode pages: I am assuming you deleted this section because the topic was discussed previously and a decision was made? My goal was to add a Theories link somewhere on the episode page that most new users will notice; and an Unaswered section seemed the most natural place to put it. I am betting that the majority of users do not see the "theories" tab at the top. --Dagg 13:48, 14 January 2007 (PST)

You said: An unanswered question dealing with an episode would be: who is the camera man? Do you have the same criteria in regards to episode theories: A theory dealing with an episode would be: the camera man is David Letterman. That's fine if you think this, but none of the episode theories currently follow this rule, so I think everyone would disagree. --Dagg 14:22, 14 January 2007 (PST)
That's fine, but there is no precedence for enforcing that rule before. In fact, people were encouraged to put their theories on the article theory pages. I'll go ahead and put this up for a vote on the theories page. Whatever the consensus is is fine with me. Probably a good idea to get this decided before all the newbies come next month. --Dagg 22:02, 14 January 2007 (PST)

No worries

Just made a new image. --Cormacalian 19:22, 14 January 2007 (PST)

Do you really have to be so rude to people? There's no need to have a go at Dagg... he hasn't done anything wrong. Just chill about it, it doesnt have to become an argument. --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  11:15, 15 January 2007 (PST)

  • Ok, Im glad that you didnt start getting annoyed at me. I understand that it can get frustrated if people dont understand, but you just have to stick with it. And I wouldnt suggest talking to him like a child... that might make things worse, and I just want to avoid an argument. Thank you, --   Lost Soul   talk  contribs  11:54, 15 January 2007 (PST)

  • "I am truely sorry I have to be rude." [1]

Please discontinue your rudeness towards me. Would it help if I made a public apology in regards to my typos? Please list any other grievances and I will try to address them. I do not want you angry at me. --Dagg 14:38, 15 January 2007 (PST)

  • Why do you think I have never present my opinions about this before. Because I knew it would fail. I have already asked others what they believe of it and they have already disagreed with me. [2]

Your deletion [3] of my changes to the I Do page clearly showed your opinion about this issue. Please do not delete my changes when you know that the majority would disagree with the deletion. --Dagg 14:54, 15 January 2007 (PST)

  • "The reason I deleted your questions were because they were to broad, for the wrong episode, or had already been answered. The unanswered questions section is meant for specific questions," [4]

Sounds good. I'll come up with more specific questions. --Dagg 15:08, 15 January 2007 (PST)

  • I don't want to get involved her but I do agree the quotes are being used to much. It just seems to make more sense.--Mr.Leaf 13:42, 20 January 2007 (PST)
  • Oh I completely agree, I just think the edit wars aren't really going to solve anything its just going to make both sides mad and will stop the flow of intelligent conversation. Posting your thoughts on the Talk:Quotes within articles (proposed) page would be a much easier and better way to get your point across. Yeah you're misinterpreting. I just want clarification on SysOp distinction etc, and I've even put in a thing that maybe me, Plkrtn, Jabber etc should all be demoted on the forum. We should earn adminship on both forum and wiki separately to avoid issues of forum people wanting to be mods on the wiki by de facto. Some people should be both, like Circeus, but otherwise stick to your area unless you use both very frequently. The only problem with this is that we still need a SysOp private forum - but I was thinking we could all just be put in a different non-important group or whatever. Hope that clears up what I'm trying to say --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:43, 31 January 2007 (PST)

Both of you need to stop, but Cap, if you dislike someone, keep it to yourself. The matter of whether she is a ballet or dance instructor IS trivial, because she is both (a ballet instructor is a type of dance instructor, though we will keep it at ballet because it is consistant with what the most specific info on her). If something is edited back and forth more than twice, it should be continued on the talk page to prevent an edit war, it's not an excuse to continue a pissing contest over a personality clash. --PandoraX 11:27, 4 February 2007 (PST)

  • Cap, you've been around the site longer than I have, and you know how things work now... if you disagree with edits, take it to the talk page, leave the personal language out, and talk about the reasons you disagree. We all know you often make great edits to lostpedia, and quite frankly, I have no personal issues with you, but this doesn't make you immune from being held to the same standards of being civil as everyone else. --PandoraX 13:31, 6 February 2007 (PST)
  • Sigh, I agree with Pan here. It's the language and impatience rather than outright flaming, but she's right, it's about common standards across all editors and we feel these standards are being taken advantage of here. When you're not impatient, you rock; otherwise I'll have to back up Pan. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  13:38, 6 February 2007 (PST)
  • I have to add that randomly deleting things with the edit caption of "follow the rules" isn't helpful unless you make it clear which rules are being violated. Otherwise the ofending material is just going to show up again. Also, usually rewording/moving/editing something is more useful to a wiki than just deleting it wholesale. --Jackdavinci 07:24, 19 February 2007 (PST)
  • I guess there's no changing your mind but I'll respond anyway. I think referring to a specific rule is more likely to get someone to read them all since it's seen as helpful while 'read the rules' will just be seen as condescending. Plus edit summaries aren't just for one person they are for everyone, and it's useful for people to know specifically the reason for the edit so that they can follow your example. I agree that if someone posts a long rambling theory that violates multiple rules then it's better to delete it (with adequate edit summary) than to try to rewrite it for them. But if it's a minor violation that can be fixed by changing one or two words then I think it's more useful to edit than delete. PS: Who is here longer is not relevant to this or to pretty much any discussion. If being here longer gives you greater insight, then you should be able to give more facts or evidence to support your position. If being here longer doesn't do that, than it's a moot point. In either case there's no reason to bring it up.--Jackdavinci 10:26, 19 February 2007 (PST)
