"Ji Yeon" transcript

Great work! Thanks for putting that up so quickly. Out of curiosity, what software do you use to get the closed caption file? Robert K S (talk) 11:23, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

  • Thank you. Well, actually I don't even know where to get the closed caption file. I watched the video from the start and paused on dialogues. If the closed caption file is anything like .srt and .sub files, I guess something like Notepad would do fine. Subtitle files are text files. But I don't know much about the CC, how you get it and its format. --     c      blacxthornE      t     12:47, 14 March 2008 (PDT)
    • Don't tell me you typed out all the dialogue! Big waste of time--I could have gotten all that for you in the amount of time it took to watch an episode. All it takes is a TV card. I use the TV application in ATI Multimedia Center 7.9 to capture the closed captioning to a text file (the function is called "TV Magazine"). Unfortunately this old software doesn't work with the newer ATI cards, and I don't know of any newer software that captures closed caption streams to a text file as seamlessly as this old ATI software does--which is why I asked you what you used. Robert K S (talk) 12:55, 14 March 2008 (PDT)
      • Actually I didn't type all the dialogue. I downloaded an .srt file I found on the net. But I don't trust them, so I read it as I watched the episode, and did copy+pastes where it was easier (like the monologues), making little corrections and typed it myself most of the time (the Korean conversations, or short, one-sentence stuff where it's faster to type than to copy and paste and write the names in-between). The only think I couldn't make was that thing that Lapidus said, about the captain wanting him to "bring these guys"... something. It said "food" in the .srt file and I'm sure he doesn't say that. I think he said "fro" meaning frozen food but I'm just taking a shot there. Oh I digress. Yes, I used an .srt file for help. --     c      blacxthornE      t     13:04, 14 March 2008 (PDT)
        • He says, "The captain wanted me to bring these guys some food up." I've never heard of an .srt file. Where do you find one? How do you make it? Robert K S (talk) 13:18, 14 March 2008 (PDT)
          • Well .srt files are subtitle files that go along with DivX, Xvid videos, etc. Most media players use them to show subtitles with a video. I just searched for Lost 4x07 subtitles and found one on the net. I don't really know who makes them and how, I just know there are places on the net that people post them to. --     c      blacxthornE      t     13:36, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

Unanswered Questions

Hi there, Please could you be a bit more careful with the content you are removing from the Unanswered Questions sections on our episode articles. I just had a look at your edits for The Constant. One of many questions you wrongly removed was "What is Charles Widmores interest in the Ledger". In your summary you stated that he knows about the Island, however, we do not know at this point (1996), that he knows anything about it, however implied it is, and even if he did know, that does not explain why the ledger was of importance. Unless it is answered quite specifically in the show please do not remove it. For more information see Our Episode Manual of Style on UQ. Thanks. --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 14:47, 19 March 2008 (PDT)

  • I actually read it every time. However, if the answer is implied, I don't see why we should expect further revelation about it unless there is... The Charles Widmore example is a strong suggestion that he knew something about the island in 1996, and he has been searching for the island, since it was revealed that he found it recently. This is like asking "Is Jin really dead?" or "Is the sound really not mechanical as Sayid suggests?" or "Who wrote the not about not trusting the captain?". These have strongly suggested answers in the episodes and should not be questions. This means that the writers intend for you to believe the answer is given. They're doubts, as we're used not to trust everything suggested on the show, but they're not mysteries. Thanks for your concern though, I really appreciate your comment. --     c      blacxthornE      t     15:01, 19 March 2008 (PDT)

Thanks for the tip. (I hope it works, i'm testing it now)   >: David Gee    Communicate   Flashback   02:39, 24 March 2008 (PDT) (HOW DO I CHANGE MY Signature, its a bit boring!)

Sorry for changing the logos, and yes people have changed it back again since, i did not intentionally change it as vandalisim, but because after seeing the history, it had different logos, and noticed that it had been changed back and forth several times, i then looked at screenshots and saw the breaks in the border, so decided to change it back, i think its quite a trivial matter, but i am dedicated to trying to make lostpedia an informative site with accurate information, i think this site is wonderful, and the people here have put alot of good work into getting this site up to the standard it is. I am new to all of this, and was unaware of any problems i had caused, so sorry for any inconvenience, i must suggest, if possible, that administrators, should restrict, or lock access on this page, as there may be confusion, perhaps there should be some extra information in the articles on the logos, explaining that sometimes the producers used a stencil to paint the logos on the walls. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nzoomed (talkcontribs) .

Your medals

The medal images here were in need of a refresh, and what you've done is great!  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  20:52, 12 April 2008 (PDT)

Wow! I really didn't expect one when I made these; it was just a matter of taste, and I wanted to contribute since I'm in graphic design... But thanks a lot; I'm honored. --     c      blacxthornE      t     13:05, 13 April 2008 (PDT)

Thanks. It was definitely time for an update. I think I've had the same one since 2006, lol. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 09:52, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

Thanks again. I moved it to the correct place. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 10:18, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

Image Issue

Do you know what's wrong with Image:Discharge.jpg? The earliest version (if you click it, you'll see what I mean) is an expandable image which remains vertical and allows the text to be read easily. I've tried twice to revert to this version (or like it) and have even downloaded the version and tried to re-upload it to overwrite, but it still shows the odd box graphic. I cleaned my cache, so hopefully it's not just me. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 04:05, 17 April 2008 (PDT)

Glad it wasn't just me. On an unrelated issue, I noticed you said something (unsigned BTW) to pyramidhead regarding MOS header changes. I'm reverting Expose for the same reason, where his changes were not only opposed to style guide, but also changed some sense into nonsense, IMO. It's not up to me to say anything to him though. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 04:25, 17 April 2008 (PDT)
No, sorry. I didn't mean to imply what you did was wrong. I meant he's making changes across the board without discussion, and while some are productive, a SysOp might need to say something. That's all :) -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 04:44, 17 April 2008 (PDT)

  • Okey-dokey. I'd just feel bad if you were smacked around for it. I had strong opinions on the matter, and thought the reaction was unreasonable, but I'm not offended by either of them. It's just mind-over-matter ;)-- LOSTonthisdarnisland 05:34, 25 April 2008 (PDT)

Theory page

Thanks. I did rewrite some of them just a bit to help retain them, but many were just deletes. To be fair, it was probably close to equal work because a lot of it was removing arguing in-article. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 13:00, 17 April 2008 (PDT)

See my talk page, since Robert continued the subject there :) -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 19:08, 19 April 2008 (PDT)

Great job on marking all those images for deletion. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 08:01, 20 April 2008 (PDT)

  • I could see by "recent changes" you'd done a lot of work, but wow. Nicely done. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 08:18, 20 April 2008 (PDT)
  • That's why I didn't remove it again. It's bloody annoying that 5 of us have told him the same thing and he keeps on. This is a new consensus drive for the same point someplace else. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 11:57, 28 April 2008 (PDT)
  • Didn't take it personally; was just venting frustration in your general direction :) -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 12:02, 28 April 2008 (PDT)

• I found the best screencap I could [1] and traced the image myself. It's a bit blurry so there's some guesswork (some versions look more pointy and some look more rounded) but it's more accurate than the previous version we had. I'm sure we'll get a better look at the logo before the season is out! --Jackdavinci 10:26, 30 April 2008 (PDT)

Could you tell what the funereal chant was in "The Shape of Things to Come"? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Robert K S (talkcontribs) .

Thanks much. I figured it was the shahadah, but didn't want to guess. Robert K S (talk) 11:10, 1 May 2008 (PDT)
Are you talking about to the transcript? How has unsubtitled dialogue been handled in the past? My vote would be for it to be added, but to do it in the most graceful way that still makes it clear that the dialogue was not necessarily intended to be understood by the main audience. Possibly, by putting a space at the beginning of the dialogue
So that you get it in a box like this.
But that's just one idea; there may be other, better ways to seamlessly insert the dialogue into the transcript. Hopefully we can find something better than a clunky parenthetical saying "This dialogue was not subtitled". Robert K S (talk) 13:02, 1 May 2008 (PDT)

Couple of issues

Thanks so much on your advice and comment. I really appreciate it. I've created the sandbox, and will go ahead and create the page there. Seriously...thanks again! --Easter 20:09, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

  • Yeah, that's a great tip cos I've been just linking through the Secrets page through what you provided. Which was starting to get annoying. :) I'm hoping to get the article done on my sandbox early next week, cos the Who Knows part of each secret is starting to be a bit, for example, Sun, Jin, Micheal, Desmond, Keamy, Bubba, Wubba....all know about the bomb on the Freighter. It's like, ay yi yi...You're indispensible, Blacx! Thanks so much!!--Easter 17:07, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
    • I agree, and what I can do is suggest those conditions by updating the sample section box on the Character Secrets talk page. You can see I've updated it also in my sandbox with Season 1. What do you think? You're so very right; it's much more organized and informative this way while being succinct by having those specific condition tags. You rock again! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Easter (talkcontribs) .
      • Thanks, Blacx. I hate to bug you again, but I'm totally stumped with indenting the condition tags. Where does the colon go, if there's indeed a colon to be placed? --Easter 18:32, 17 May 2008 (PDT)
        • if the line with the condition tag starts off like this:
(two colons) (imagine the td with two brackets here, not one) {td} Revealed: blah blah blah, Locke, then {tr}, then the text enlarges and shifts around. I imagine this is because of the mark-ups with td and tr in the sectionbox. It doesn't seem to recognize the command as it normally does in normal template. --Easter 18:58, 17 May 2008 (PDT)

Unanswered Question re Carole Littleton

I suspect that where they met is going to be relevant. So do others. (Note that another editor has theorized that Carole is Annie.) I think it's unnecessarily limiting to require the question be directly raised by the show, and I think it takes a narrower view of the show and its constantly interweaving plots than is warranted. That being said, I'm brand spanking new here, and you're not, so I'll defer to your judgment, at least until I get a few more edits under my belt. Take care and happy editing! --Lurgis 09:15, 31 May 2008 (PDT)

OK, I understand. --Lurgis 13:03, 31 May 2008 (PDT)

I didn't. User:01lander

I would argue that this one is, because it was only cut due to time restraints, and promo shots showed up in anticipation for the episode. Plus it doesn't really matter, seeing as both characters are dead now. I think it adds to their characters. User:01lander

Okay, thanks! I forgot to do that. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 10:54, 12 June 2008 (PDT)

Bring back the casualties petition

After the events that happend with deleting the 5 casualty articles, me and some other users started a petition for bringing those articles back on Lostpedia. If you share our opinion on this matter, please sign the "Save The Redshirts" section on my user page. If you want you could contact other users about this or create a "Save the redshirts" section on your user page, because the goal is to get as many users to sign the petition as possible along with 6 SysOps (Admins). I would appriciate a quick respond and a sign on either my user page or User:LostCloverfield42's page. --Orhan94

Hey could you help me out? I wanna make a logo for a project I'm running using the DHARMA logo, and I figured who better to ask than you after you made all the Lostpedia medal templates look so professional. This is what I did very quickly (you can see how much it sucks) Image:LLL bookclub.JPG - not even the right font. I was thinking of doing it and having it underneath saying "Lostpedia Literary League" and then underneath that "Book Club" (unless that looks lame). Also the Door logo might be cooler than the Pearl, or even a book?!?! Could you help? I would be hella grateful! --Nickb123 (Talk) 13:02, 11 July 2008 (PDT)

Hey nevermind, I got someone to pro it up. Thanks anywayz, --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:09, 11 July 2008 (PDT)
You've already made one?! Mate, if so, lemme see and I'll consider it. I feel bad. --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:13, 11 July 2008 (PDT)
Cool, someone also made me this which I'm running with cause he made it in correspondence to me so I got to tweak it how I liked it etc. But thanks so much for working on it anyway, I hope you didn't stay up late just cause of that. --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:34, 11 July 2008 (PDT)
Oh sure thing. If you could follow a similar format to the other one but straighten out the font, that'd be awesome. I don't need the huge underneath bit actually, just similar to the other one Image:LLL_bookclub.JPG --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:37, 11 July 2008 (PDT)
Oh of course, I can link to yours from the one I'm using now whenever if its a more refined version. --Nickb123 (Talk) 16:41, 11 July 2008 (PDT)
Hey, they look great! Could you try with this one putting Lostpedia one line lower, and then LLL on the first bagua line (if that makes sense)? Furthermore, could "Book Club" in the center of the logo be raised ever so slightly higher so it doesn't touch the door logo? Cheers! --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:50, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
I dunno, I love the center on really prefer Book Club there as it fits well. I would just have Lostpedia as the suffix and scrap the LLL thing, but it is popular. Could I just compare the latest one with one where LLL is not included, and the first line of the bagua is just "Lostpedia"? Also, what do you think? --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:07, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
Okay, I think the just Lostpedia one looks better, but I can't ditch the LLL because of its popularity, so I'm gonna go with this one. Thanks v. much for all your work, sorry I kept making you tweak it! --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:19, 12 July 2008 (PDT)
Erm I don't think they actually say DHARMA on them anyway, but sure if you think it'll look good, the medals are open to all edits of course. As for the Orchid thing, I just like it lol but again the Swan one is also very nice and if you'd rather that one then sure thing. I'm really not too fussed, I was just more interested in specifically getting the book club one looking the way I wanted it to. --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:17, 13 July 2008 (PDT)

Image deletion tags

  • Please watch out when you add deletion tags to "unused" images. You tagged Image:4x05-horowitz-cameo.jpg, when in fact it was hosted on the wiki to be used on the blog as was noted by date in the image comments, which you apparently neglected to read. The image has now been broken on the blog for many months due to your tag and subsequent deletion. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  10:35, 11 November 2008 (PST)
