If you look at the published book, the cover talks about the fact that he died in the 815 crash and the book is being released posthumously and "what a tragedy" etc etc. In fact, I think he was supposed to be visiting Australia to sell to a new market, the book was ready to go, just not published yet.

Does the show say it is the only copy of the manuscript? If so, that may have been an error. It may refer to it being only in manuscript form and unpublished as of the crash, but that was true of the Expose script as well (substitute unaired for unpublished), but that didn't make it the only copy.

In any case, you can tell from the podcasts that Damon and Carlton were not happy with how the book turned out, so I doubt they would make any attempt to make further references to it in conjunction with the show (in fact, I think they retroactively made the guy who got sucked into the engine into Gary Troup precisely because they were unhappy with how the book turned out).
