During the first minutes of the Pilot, the plane turbine exploded. However when the scene is enhanced and detailed, it is observed that an object flies over the turbine, seemingly triggering the explosion.
Moreover, we can rapidly see what seems to be another object showing behind the head of the running man, moving off of the screen to the right. This one, however, might be a piece of debris. However, due to it suddenly appearing a short distance away from the explosion and apparently accelerating at a different rate to the rest of the debris, this is unlikely.
This event seems to be hard to link with current theories.
Theories
- The black objects are irrelevant CGI mistakes and the explosion was initiated by the guy getting sucked into the turbine just a few frames earlier. Another possiblility is that the Black Smoke swooped onto the passanger forcing him to be sucked in.
- Could it be that the "object" is really the Black Smoke?
- The object is falling and is merely being blown by the turbine, which appears to still be on.
- It's a really fat bird.
- The object may have been attracted to the island by the magnetic field after Desmond failed to enter the sequence at the Swan station.
