Mixed feelings on Speaker. I like the idea of a source for canonicity (did I just make that word up?), but I also kind of miss the fuzzy is-it-or-isn't-it hardcore ARGing experience. This Inside Lost metacommentary smacks to me of being forced to color between the lines. Oh, well. I've had my say. --User:RazorInTheApple 11:22, 10 May 2006 (PDT)

Am I really all that anonymous?
Also - Razor, would you rather the commentary be OUT of the story or just not have it at all? (And that's not to be read confrontationally - I'm just curious as to your opinion.) --S 10:27, 11 May 2006

Valid question. Thanks for asking!  :-) I actually love the idea of a metacommentary, but I fear that having a "character" (no offense) who straddles in-game and out-of-game interferes with the ARGs' verisimilitude. I think you probably have the coolest job in the world right now and you serve a valuable purpose in keeping Disney's investment in its hit TV series and its spin-off ARG on the rails. But that's also the problem, I'm sorry to say. If I can't believe in the reality of this "alternate reality" -- if there's always a source for nudging me off the wrong track -- then that makes the game less interesting to me. It does make the game easier for the fat part of the bell curve, so I suppose economics dictates that this is the way to go. Personally, I don't like having the answers in the back of my textbook. It tempts me to cheat. And even if I don't, the kids around me will be chatting about the right answers because they cheated. "This is just part of the evolution of these things," the old Cloudmaker said as he took his dentures out and went to bed early. --RazorInTheApple 14:57, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

No prob! :D I totally understand, but as you said about the curve, half of the people I get commenting have no idea there's a game and ask if "Bad Twin" is a real book or wonder why there was a strange commercial on their TV. :)
I don't actually expect a lot of hard core Lost Fans, they all go to the fan sites (I know, cuz I'm one of'em!) which, actually give away MORE than I do (and sometimes QUICKER!)
Besides, who says i'm nudging people OFF the wrong track instead of ONto it?
Kidding.
I think . . .

I like your style, Speaker. Corporate handcuffs aside.  ;-) My wish list:

  • A pony for Christmas
  • That you are an elaborate mindfuck that will play out later
  • Michael Giacchino will stop ending every LOST act break with those goddamn glissandos
  • ABC gives you a raise

--RazorInTheApple 23:02, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

Thanks! I would also like a pony. Would you mind splitting yours? (Dibbs on the front half!):: --S 04:15, 16 August 2342

=) I think I know who Speaker is -- number 1 Javi Minion...but it could be someone else using that name. -- Chatake 15:06, 16 May 2006 (PDT)

a whaty-minion? --S
yeah...I also think it is very creepy that you use lostpedia to communicate, if you are really "Speaker". The Number 1 Javi Minion - http://www.javiminions.com/minions.php and the person who designed that site. There is a link to his Livejournal. Since Javi knows about Lostpedia... -- Chatake 08:46, 18 May 2006 (PDT)

Speaker, I find it creepy as heck that you use this page to communicate. Why? Because that would mean you have no boundaries. Like Fantasia (or was that Fantastica...) or something. Can you prove your affiliation with "Inside the Experience"? Probably not, because I can't even think of a way you can. Either way, Milo Rambaldi says "hi". Tebor 00:30, 18 May 2006 (PDT)

Why would I want to prove anything? --S
I'd say wealth, fame, marriage, children, travel, career, knowledge, and family... But I think you already knew that. Namaste. Tebor 14:38, 18 May 2006 (PDT)
Also, Speaker - whether it be me or someone else - also chooses to communicate with g-mail. People have said in the comments that Speaker responds. --S
Well, "Speaker" it would appear you are correct on both the hints and the contribution front. Tebor 11:38, 19 May 2006 (PDT)

Google Talk

Add speaker815@gmail.com to your google talk list.. He was busy when I added him with "A son nor some medieval Joe" as his busy message.

6/02/06 Message has changed to: "Yow, you're a three hour emergent oat." --Beardog4314 17:44, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

6/07/06 once again, changed to: "Solved by Hurley is Too Thin: 'No matter where you go, there you are.'" --Beardog4314 17:26, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Hey, can someone add a "Google Talk" feature to the "Speaker" page? I can't see them myself :( Tebor 00:37, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

Sure Tebor, I don't have time tonight, but if it hasn't happened by tomorrow, I'll totally post them up. I don't think these have anything to do with the game though, just a little extra fun! --Beardog4314 17:26, 7 June 2006 (PDT)
I probably should have checked before I posted a reply. Sorry guys, and thanks to whoever put that up! --Beardog4314 17:27, 7 June 2006 (PDT)
Actually, those were the ones I knew of from discussions and Speaker's own posts. They are confirmed to be just for fun, but I'm all for collecting every minute detail of Speaker's existance. Tebor

Dragon Con

Is it me, or is this a clue/upcoming event/shameless plug to get Lostites to attend?

Perhaps at this year's Dragon*Con there will be someone walking around with the cut-out, or even better, cosplaying as Alvar himself.

from Reader Mail 4 --Jujo 07:42, 6 June 2006 (PDT)

or just a reference for the fun of it? --S

Was it a red herring, or completely real, that Speaker today seemed at first reluctant to believe the sighting of the Hanso Foundation commericial aired during Boston Legal which gave the link to retrieversoftruth.com? One would assume he would know it was affiliated with ABC right from the bat, even have foreknowledge, but he seemed skeptical until accounts poured in, and details added up to prove it was legitely affiliated with The Lost Experience.... --Trix

Speaker is one of the biggest enigmas in this Hanso affair. His actions are usually always intentional and his hesistation might have reflected how we should've reacted to the event. After all, commercials for Hanso have been limited to certain programs. Tebor 13:42, 8 June 2006 (PDT)

Buffy? Angel?

Should "Angel" also be listed in the allusions list? As the show was a spinoff of "Buffy", there were natural crossovers between the two shows. I'm not sure whether both should be mentioned, or just "Buffy" (until something that is purely original to "Angel" is referenced). Tebor 13:45, 8 June 2006 (PDT)
