  • Yes. We're trying to spell article names correctly. It makes things easier for everybody instead of having to deal with a plethora of idiosyncratic misspellings in article names. Given the choice, it's not more difficult to prefer the correct spelling to a misspelling. So why not? -- Cheers 22:07, 3 November 2006 (PST)
  • Don't rename Why rename it? The official term is S.O.S., an acronym for "Save Our Ship". All that'd be needed would be a redirect from SOS sign, if that was really an issue (anyone can do that, but I will now). I will, however, rename it to S.O.S. sign (lowercase). --PandoraX 18:43, 3 November 2006 (PST)
    • No, the official term is "SOS", chosen for its unmistakable succession in morse. It is doubtful the German would have chosen an English phrase in 1905. The phrase you quote may be a mnemonic trick for some people or an urban legend. Please look up "SOS" in a dictionary. Remember all the discussions on the Lost discussion forums when the title of episode "S.O.S." became known and the speculations that were made about the hidden meanings it might have because that title was written as if it should be read as an acronym instead of being the spelling of "SOS" meaning the distress signal. You may also find the Wikipedia article on the subject of interest, especially for the historical perspective: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOS. -- Cheers 22:07, 3 November 2006 (PST)
  • Hmm, that's certainly interesting, as a backronym, I never knew that. To me, it's all the same, to be honest, so sure, why not. Though I don't think it'll make a lot of difference, either disambigs; but I'll move it out of respect for proper naming reasons. PS: Cheers, or anyone who wants to, may want to add this to a trivia section or something, just as background. --PandoraX 11:43, 6 November 2006 (PST)

SOS is an acronym for[]

Save our Souls... not save our ship... :-) -- Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  11:49, 6 November 2006 (PST)

SOS is not an acronym. It is just an easy thing to type out in Morse Code. ...---..., ...---... it's meaning is to convey a since that something is wrong and a strange message is being transmitted quickly. Much like “Mayday, Mayday”. It is an easy to say easily recognized message. --ASEO 12:01, 6 November 2006 (PST)

Rename[]

Very trivial matter but should this not be renamed to "S.O.S" Princess Dharma

Character involved[]

Could the STATUS section be removed from the tables. It actually has nothin what so ever to do with the SOS sign nor with its construction. THough I can't think of anything that could be placed instead it should deffinetly needs to go.--Orhan94 13:10, 7 October 2008 (PDT)

I agree, but if we don't, we should upgrade it.
