Jack & Hurley disputes[]
On Oceanic Airlines flight 815, Jack had a heated discussion with a flight attendant on airport about boarding his father's corpse.
On Ajira Airways flight 316, Hurley had a similar heated discussion with a flight attendant about not boarding any other passengers as he has already bought all open tickets.
Despite the irony, could this be a possible proxy? The only inclination not to include it is because it happened outside the plane. But I believe people usually refer to all incidents associated with a trip both on airports and planes as a flight. That's why Hurley and Ben status of almost missing the plane is regarded a proxy.
Any thoughtful remarks on this? Iimitk 18:11, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- I believe that could be a possible proxy. Did anyone notice the boy sat playing a Nintendo DS Lite (white) in the airport when Hurley was at that desk? Walt was playing a Nintendo GBA SP at the airport. Could this have been Walt's proxy, but was denied a seat due to Hurley buying them all? --Baker1000
- Well, I've added the proxy. :) Regarding the boy with Nintendo, I remember few children on the airport (check Hurely's image in main article), but cannot seem to locate a boy with a Nintendo. Anyway, if it's correct, then it's very interested theory which means that the universe "course corrected" Walt's absence by Hurley's buying that boy own ticket aboard Flight 316. Ben in the restroom[]
Do we know this is where Ben went? I don't remember him saying, he just said he was giving Jack some privacy -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 23:48, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- But thats a presumption. Until we see what happened to Ben, we shouldn't predict it. -- Plkrtn talk contribs email 02:18, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. I was wondering all round about everyone's speculation about this. It could however be logically implied since there are really no other options for Ben, on that flight, unless he wanted to trigger the crash by imposing the last proxy. —Iimitk 23:54, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
I agree. We only see Ben walk to the front of the plane. It was annoying me on 316 that everyone was adding that he'd gone to the loo. ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 02:28, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Locke's proxy[]
any thoughts on who is the proxy for Locke the man in the wheelchair on 815? Is Ben and his apparently broken arm (which apparently heals later on the island) supposed to be the 'proxy' for the crippled Locke? Ben might wish that, if he wants to be the one the island chooses, as it apparently has chosen Locke.JEMJEM 21:58, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Jack switching seats ?[]
Could this be a proxy ? On flight 815, he switched seats to get closer to Rose, while on flight 316 he sat down next to Kate at one point ... Is this stretching the definition of a proxy ? --LeoChris 01:21, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Cindy & Rupa[]
Would another proxy be that Cindy and Rupa both asked if there was anything wrong with the passengers? Cindy asked if every thing was alright with Charlie, and Rupa asked if everything was alright with Hurley, Ben, and Jack. -- LostCloverfield42 Talk 21:23, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- I think this might be a bit of a stretch. A main candidate for a proxy is someone who has previously been on the Island or at least, wanted intentionally to be there. After all, all proxies covered so far were associated with one of the show's main characters. Maybe if Rupa became more than a redshirt, she could warrant her own proxy. :)
- To be honest, I wish she would become a main character. The chix is cool. :p —Iimitk 01:16, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
lol everyone I know is a big fan of Cindy, and I love Rupa. These flight attendants need more attention Four4elements 17:05, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Jack and Sawyer[]
Jack is reading a letter addressed to himself, as Sawyer did. I'd add but I don't think I know how to Four4elements 17:06, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Sawyer's letter was addressed to the real Sawyer, Anthony Cooper, not himself. The difference is that Sawyer wrote his letter himself, whereas Locke wrote the letter to Jack. Not a proxy IMO.--Baker1000 18:04, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
Kate as Claire proxy[]
After seeing the "Last Supper" promo picture I realized that maybe Kate got pregnant the night before leaving for the island when Jack went to check on her, therefore she could have easily been the proxy for Claire. In the "last supper" picture she seems to be seating in the seat that The Da Vinci Code reserves to Maria Maddalena, wife of Jesus Christ and pregnant with his child.
Michael for Ana Lucia, Sawyer for Locke, etc.[]
The concept of a proxy or substitute should perhaps be extended to cases where someone offers to take the place of someone else, offers to do some task that a character is reluctant to undertake, or a character manipulates the situation so that some other character carries out their wishes, either aware or unaware. Cases would include Michael offering to shoot Ben for Ana Lucia (because Ana Lucia has been healed of her vengeance), Sawyer being manipulated into killing Locke's father (since Locke is powerless against his father), all the way to the ending in which Hurley takes on stewardship of the island after Jack sacrifices himself.
