rename[]

  • Original title was "Fauna" which means animals, but we already have an article for that. Rather than erasing the article to redirect to Aniamls, since the content was mainly about plants anyways, I renamed to the analogous "Flora". However "Plants" is more straightforward of a title. Unless there is some compelling reason to use the technical term, will rename to "Plants" momentarily. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  13:32, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Agree: rename to "Plants". And shouldn't Fauna redirect to Animals instead of redirecting here (Flora)?? --   Steff    talk    contribs    email   13:47, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
  • Done, and article moved to Plants, it's a no-brainer to use simpler terms. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  18:24, 11 July 2007 (PDT)

Reconstruction[]

I propose a plan for this page. I want to reconstruct this page so it will be better orginized, and I will add more information to this page. What do you think? I'm currently working on a project on Lost Wiki, so I won't get around to doing it right now. I'll await everyone's feedback. --#1LostFan 16:39, 16 November 2007 (PST)

This page obviously needs work, what exactly do you have in mind? I'd suggest some sort of table/chart as well as a lot of images to match with the plants used. There are definitely more we haven't documented here so feel free to go ahead with additions/changes. If people don't like it, it can always be reverted. I think it would also be interesting if someone who knew their wildlife could point out some of the trees on the island (all you have to do is research vegetation in Hawaii). Wikipedia links should also be fine on these pages for in depth details on each plant discussed. -Mr.Leaf 17:31, 16 November 2007 (PST)

That is what I am thinking of (making a table with plenty of pictures). I'll get to work on it in the next few days. --#1LostFan 17:42, 16 November 2007 (PST)

  • Good idea. Don't forget this tree. The image is allready uploaded (Image:Hft57.jpg) --Hunter61 22:10, 16 November 2007 (PST)
  • I've started on it, but probably won't be done for a while since I got a long way to go. What does everyone think of it right now? The rest of the page will look similar to what it is right now. --#1LostFan 16:28, 18 November 2007 (PST)
    • Looking fine, imho. Keep up the good work --Hunter61 21:38, 18 November 2007 (PST)
    • I have an article on fruits waiting in the wings. It's almost a joke but it actually has a lot of content once the humorous parts are cleaned out for placement in the main article space: User:Santa/fruit. I'd be almost inclined to put up the plant article for deletion-- nearly all of the plants are incidental to the filming location, rather than the script. If you want to include all the plants that are directly relevant to the storyline, then we have an article worth keeping. As it is, it's been just sitting here and has not been improved. Fruits are pretty much a separate article ready-to-go, and adding it to plants doesn't make sense as it also overlaps with the Food article. Also, an exhaustive list of colored tables can really get in the way of readability in most cases, so just list the information first, then make a draft in your userspace with colored tables, to see if it is really functional or decorative. Articles in which tables in which decoration gets in the way of readiblity will be reverted. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  21:40, 18 November 2007 (PST)
      • The reason I started on this project was because it was unorganized and not descriptive. I can't really think of much to write for the trees and other plants. Your right Santa, the plants page will be better off for deletion. Do you think that the fruit page should be merged with food? You should figure this out since I'm new to this layout and I don't really know what I'm doing. --#1LostFan 22:01, 18 November 2007 (PST)
      • I think there is room for an article about plants' impact on the storyline. Then, the banyan article could be merged (and expanded). For example we have Locke's hallucinogenic plant-based paste, Sun's garden, the tree taken over the Sonic Fence, the raft fashioned from logs, the church made from logs, the swishing of trees first used to indicate the monster, and as a stretch Ana-Lucia used a branch to impale and kill Goodwin. There are probably more. Plants definitely is a stock item used by the writers, and IMO the article should at the least list those. However what I want to avoid is listing every incidental plant type that happened to be at the filming location. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  22:14, 18 November 2007 (PST)
  • I think I am done with it. Feel free to do some editing if you see any errors or can think of another thing to write on the page. --1LostFan 12:04, 21 November 2007 (PST)
