Merged The Dock[]

I merged the article about The Dock with this one because they are the same location. --Mescad 09:50, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

  • Is it? That depends on if "Pala Ferry" is the name of the location (the dock itself), or the name of the boat. Or, perhaps it is the name of the route.--Blakeeb 09:10, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
    • The sign on the dock said "Pala Ferry" and this article was more complete. If we learn more about the Ferry itself later, this article could be change to reflect that. --Mescad 09:50, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
    • Under the Facts section of the Pala Ferry page there is a comment that states the Pala Ferry is the same boat used to capture Walt. I don't think it's safe to assume that the boat was the actual ferry. Looking at the large covered area of the dock, it looks like a place for a much larger boat to pull up and load people on and off. --Atlantis 17:54, 25 May 2006 (PDT)
I don't think it's safe to assume that either the dock or that boat are the ferry. The dock is probably just that, a dock, where the others' boat and the ferry itself come to pick people up and drop them off. -- [Ernest] 07:04, 26 May 2006 (PDT)
  • Based on the name on the cover shown in the image, I don't have a big problem with merging the dock here but it needs to be better distinguished that the dock is not the "Pala Ferry" it is just a pier, presumably where the Pala Ferry docked for pickup as stated in the Pearl Orientation film. I also removed/moved all references to the Other's motorboat being the Pala Ferry. It is speculative at this point to assume that boat is indeed the Pala Ferry (unless of course someone can produce a screenshot showing the boat has "Pala Ferry" written on it somewhere). The Others could just have a boat and logically are using the best (maybe only) dock available on the island. For all anyone knows, they may have another, larger boat that is the true "Pala Ferry" and it will appear in Season 3 to take them, Kate, Sawyer, and Jack to the barracks.--Isotope23 07:16, 26 May 2006 (PDT)

Pala Ferry[]

I'm not clear whether they are supposed to take the ferry at the end of the 8-hour shift, or at the end of the three week assignment. I was assuming the 8-hour shift, because there doesn't seem to be a place to sleep, nor food or other facilities in the Pearl. --Uth 10:18, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

  • He specifically states they are to take the ferry at the end of their 8 hour shift.--Isotope23 11:11, 12 May 2006 (PDT)

Anybody know any translations for "pala" (or similar spelling) that might give a clue?--MoJo 12:17, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

  • Pala means protector. It's the name of a dynasty of Buddhist kings in Bengal. It fits in with the Buddhist theme of the Dharma inititive.--Isotope23 12:37, 11 May 2006 (PDT)
  • Pala is a utopian island in a book called "Island" by Aldous Huxley ("Brave New World"). To quote from Wikipedia:

"Island explores many of the themes and ideas that interested Huxley in the Post World War II decades, and were the subject of many of his nonfiction books of essays, Including Brave New World Revisited, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, The Doors of Perception, and The Perennial Philosophy. Some of these themes and ideas include overpopulation, ecology, modernity, democracy, mysticism, entheogens, and somatypes.

"The culture of Pala is the offspring of a Scottish Secular Humanist medical doctor, shipwrecked on the island in the 19th century, who partners with the Pala's raja, who embodies the island's Mahayana Buddhist tradition, to create a society that merges the best, in Huxley's view, of east and west. The Old Raja's Notes on What's What, a philosophical treatise, is a book within the book that explain's Pala's philosophical foundations." --Ljs 14:51, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

I thought he said Palau; what did the close-captioning indicate?.--Highspeed 16:27, 11 May 2006 (PDT)

  • CC said "Pala".--Isotope23 11:11, 12 May 2006 (PDT)

Not sure but how about:

Apollo ferry

Some interesting links about Apollo ferry and lab testing in space, experiments, back to Earth after experiments are done.

Not sure if this is anything though. Perhaps totally wrong and dumb and I did not hear him right.

Any comments? -- user:Plewis 13:54, 12 May 2006 (EST)

Did anyone else think he maybe could have said Apollo Ferry?--Charugan 14:44, 15 May 2006 (PDT)

  • Close captioning said "Pala"... and it sounded like "Pala" to me when he said it.--Isotope23 12:28, 16 May 2006 (PDT)

-- Could the Pala Ferry be a sort of underwater vaccum tube-type of instant transportation in the tunnels beneath the island? If so, maybe Walt has learned to use it and that's why he's wet when he appears to the other characters. --NewLostie 10:05, 21 May 2006 (PDT)

Surely if it was a vacuum tube Walt would still be dry after he'd used it? --LostCat 10:59, 29 May 2006 (PDT)

Can someone upload a screen cap of the shelter on the dock? One with the words "Pala Ferry" visible would be excellent. --Doc 08:57, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

Finding Rescue -- Michael is told that if he steers to heading 325 then he will "find rescue". This reminds me of Eko's line in SOS, where he said "People are saved in different ways, Bernard." In what way will Michael "find rescue"? --flashburn 20:41, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

Stub[]

Can this still be considered a stub? --CrystalSkull 14:51, 12 May 2006 (PDT)

An Important Detail[]

The Others simply gave the boat to Micheal. Assuming the boat to be a valuable asset for The Others, can we infer that the "rescue" they will find might be Dharma-related? I'm not sure where this theory is best suited, but thought it was worth a mention. --Bdjsb7 09:43, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

It is equally possible/likely that the Others actually have access to more than one boat, and thus they wouldn't miss giving one away to Michael and Walt. --Snarf 07:54, 26 May 2006 (PDT)

Also , it's a pretty big dock for such a small boat , the Dharma folks would have had to use much larger ships to get all the equipment to the Island, and surely their budget allows for multiple craft , The Others' boat could just be another layer of "pretending"

The Others may have given the boat to Michael and Walt for two reasons - 1) they will get it back as the rescue they mentioned is a red herring; or 2) if they DO have other means of transportation, it is in their best interest to conceal them from the survivors.

Boat from Stranger in a Strange Land[]

If the large boat seen in this episode is the Pala ferry, where do they keep it when not in use? Obviously there is no port or storage area on Hydra island otherwise people would not have to be sailed out in smaller boats to get onto this larger vessel (as seen in the episode). Also when the Lostie's sailed Desmond's boat round to the dock there was no sign of this large boat being stored there either. Therefore the question of where all the Other's marine equipment is kept is raised. Stu1984 08:39, 26 February 2007 (PST)

Godzilla![]

I was just watching Godzilla on TV, and thought when they went to 'Tahiti' - "that must be a Hawaii filming location, looks exactly like the Lost island. Then what do ya know, Mr Ferris dude disembarks a boat at the Pala Ferry!!!! Its almost identical to the one on Lost minus the obvious title, but the sheltered bit and the entire pier was the same. Does anyone have a pic of the actual location? Santa? --Nickb123 (Talk) 10:41, 3 March 2007 (PST)

North Western Side of the Island[]

Could we add that the Dock is around the NorWestern shore of the Island, given that Ben tells Michael to follow a bearing of 325 in order to find rescue? --Sauron18 16:14, 15 April 2007 (PDT)

Nevermind, it could be almost anywhere North, to vague to mention. --Sauron18 20:26, 15 April 2007 (PDT)
