Racial profiling?[]

Isn't including Sayid as a suspect for the possible bombing of Oceanic 815 racial profiling?

I don't think so. Iraqi resistance fighters and the US were at war in Sep 2004. Flight was US-bound, with many US passengers. It disintegrated in flight. Bombs are a common cause of mid-air break-up. Sayid is a former member of Saddam's elite Republican Guard. He has intelligence connections. Canonical evidence for a connection between Iraqis and terrorism is found in The Greater Good, in which Sayid's former roommate, Essam, is a member of a terrorist cell. In fact, the cell plans to use Essam as a martyr in an attack involving C4 explosive. Because of these factors, under the theory that a bomb caused the break-up, Sayid is an obvious suspect or a red herring. As noted in the Con argument, his backstory and behavior to date don't support him being a suicide bomber for Iraq or anyone else. Including him under the Pro is due to the factors above, not to any racial issues (in fact, Iraq, like the US, is a multiracial and multiethnic nation.) If anyone has any other suspects for a bomber, they should add him or her. Rennerboy 09:09, 12 November 2006 (PST)
  • I just think the point could be made just as well that we don't know any characters thus far that have pre-crash stories and/or behaviors that would align with a bombing attack. I'm not opposed to bombing being a possible reason for the mid-air break-up, but it could have been a passenger that we don't even know. As a speculation, maybe someone was following Sayid from his former life. - Dreamy Perfection 15:13, 12 November 2006 (PST)
