Title

I should note that they've been referred to as the "military team"--a better name for the article? Robert K S (talk) 19:55, 28 April 2008 (PDT)

If "military team" isn't canon, I like this better because it's more descriptive. Even if it was mentioned, they (or at least Keamy) are ex-military, so it's not accurate; military team implies they currently word for the military, while mercenaries is really what they are. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 20:04, 28 April 2008 (PDT)
There's no such thing as "the" military. They're their own military. "Military" simply means "of or relating to war"--as opposed to the science team. Who to date have done precious little science. :-) Robert K S (talk) 20:10, 28 April 2008 (PDT)
I was looking at it as military in the sense of "refers to soldiers who represent their country and constitution" or "refers to armed forces as a whole". LOL at science team quip :) -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 20:18, 28 April 2008 (PDT)
What about "Freighter Militia" ? --Xbenlinusx 17:43, 2 May 2008 (PDT)
Keamy's team seems to be one of the most favoured terms on the forums & blogs.--Kivipat 11:31, 4 May 2008 (PDT)
I'd go for Keamy's team too. At this point in the show, I'm very confused about the freighter people, their missions and their internal structure. For instance, in Episode 10 Something Nice Back Home Frank says to Miles that Keamy is coming and will kill him. I don't understand why Keamy would kill one of the freighter people. What this suggests to me is that inside the freighter there are different teams with different missions and goals, and under different command, and I'd say that Miles, Frank, Daniel and Charlotte are one team (who were under the command of Naomi) and that the mercenaries are another team (under the command of Keamy), so I think referring to this group of people as "Keamy's team" is clear and makes sense.--Salvora 15:39, 6 May 2008 (PDT)
Not Keamy's team. We don't call the others Ben's team. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  11:50, 20 May 2008 (PDT)
That's because a) the others were given a name in the show, and b) we needed a name for the others before we met their leader. Keamy's team is an accurate description and good name, until the show gives them a name (which I don't think will happen). --Gluphokquen Gunih 12:04, 20 May 2008 (PDT)
The Enhanced episodes last night referred to them repeatedly as the "mercenary team". I moved the article to this name. It contrasts well with the "science team". Robert K S (talk) 15:15, 22 May 2008 (PDT)
Whew! I'm glad that debate was finally settled - that had been a big pet peeve of mine. Kevrock 15:21, 22 May 2008 (PDT)

Does anyone have a good screen cap of more than one mercenary standing together? ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 20:09, 28 April 2008 (PDT)

Listed to the freighter

Anyone think that this article should be moved to the Freighter page, since they are associated with the freighter? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Marko14126 (talkcontribs) 2008-04-29T18:01:06.

I thought about it, but then I realized that since they don't exist exclusively on the freighter, they should be differentiated. Kinda like Survivor factions. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  18:53, 29 April 2008 (PDT)
I agree. It might be linked from the freighter article, though. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 23:02, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

How many?

I'm trying to work out the body count for this group, but it's difficult to nail down how many there were at the beginning. I count five or six sets of legs behind Alex at the barrier. And there are five in 4x10. So maybe one was killed by the monster, maybe not. How many were on the freighter? How could the monster be so ineffective against these people? Or can it just kill people one at a time?!? --Pedxing 06:47, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

  • In ("Meet Kevin Johnson"), there are five people involved in the skeet shooting scene apart from Michael: Keamy, Omar, a tough looking woman in a bandana, a tough looking man, and an overweight man in a flannel shirt. I'd say the first four are mercenaries and the fifth was just a deck hand. --Pedxing 07:15, 2 May 2008 (PDT)
  • The longer shot at the barrier in ("The Shape of Things to Come") definitely shows six mercenaries behind Alex. But I'm not sure if the woman is with them. --Pedxing 07:26, 2 May 2008 (PDT)
  • The mercenary that gets pulled into the smoke monster is definitely not Omar (or Keamy) - there's a nice lit up frame of him standing up. So I guess he's the missing one, and Omar was injured off screen. --Pedxing 07:36, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

Now that the season is over, how many mercenaries were in the freighter?
The ones that assaulted the Barracks: Keamy, Omar, McCord, Copeland, Mayhew and an unnamed one.
The ones that returned to the island to go to The Orchid: Keamy, Omar, McCord, Copeland and an unnamed one.
The ones seen on the deck in Meet Kevin Johson: Keamy, Omar, ????

Is the unnamed one from both missions the same? Who else was on the deck? --Daftshadow 07:38, 1 June 2008 (PDT)

Merge

Merge with Kahana or F-Missions - The freighter mercenaries are apart of the Kahana and they are freighter people. This page should be merged with Kahana. --CTS 17:26, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

  • Merge with Kahana or F-missions. F-Team anyone? --Blueeagleislander 18:12, 2 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Merge with Kahana: I don't think they've had enough "missions" to justify such a page, they're simply crew on the Kahana, and information can be within such a page. Details of everything they did specifically is covered in episode pages well enough. --Nickb123 (Talk) 08:47, 6 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Merge with Kahana or F-missions. Definitely. Pierre80 15:33, 6 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave it until we know if there are different groups on the freighter or not. Or some defining grouping of missions. The Kahana page could get too complex. --Forcedaccount 16:18, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave it - I think we can see a definite split between the freighter crew and mercenaries. They participate independently on and off the island, as do the "science" group. Also, since they pose a special threat to the losties, it is helpful to maintain a list of them separately so as to keep track of them. --Pedxing 10:53, 9 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave it - They are obviously not members of the crew of the freighter, as shown from their disobedience to the captain, whom they later kill. They also travel to the island and do missions independent from the freighter. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  13:41, 10 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Captain Gault did show authority over Omar who is a mercenary. --CTS 16:14, 10 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave it - Cabin Fever demonstrated that there is quite a split between the mercenaries and the rest of the boat crew. Plus they're likely to play a large part in the season finale and possibly future seasons. Scarecrow 21:32, 10 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave it - I think, especially following the literal mutiny when Keamy shot the captain in Cabin Fever, that Keamy and his men have their own intentions separate from the majority of the crew. I agree that they will be playing a larger part in the finale. --michael_is_in_the_coffin 06:57, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Merge - Create subs under Mission for "Mercenaries" and "Science." We'll all be better served if there aren't as many different places to write stuff.--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 09:32, 17 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave it - I feel the content of this page is legitimate, therefore this particular group of the freighter people deserve their own article collectively.--4 08:40, 18 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Leave It - If we have page for the survivor factions than this should stay the way it is. Not to mention that although they came from the freighter, that doesn't mean they are apart of the crew. --The Cartographer 18:38, 19 May 2008 (PDT)
  • They are apart of the crew though, just in a different faction. This is shown when Omar (a mercenary) follows Gault's (a freightie) command in "Cabin Fever". --CTS 17:38, 31 May 2008 (PDT)
  • I know this discussion is dead and resolved, but Gault was more like relaying an order from Keamy than ordering Omar himself. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  11:19, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
  • Omar told Gault that Keamy ordered him to stay, but Gault said that he would watch them, and ordered Omar to go. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 11:27, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
GAULT: Omar! Keamy wants you in the armory.

OMAR: He said I wasn't supposed to let those two out of my sight.

GAULT: I'll watch them. Go.

Seems more to me like Gault wasn't ordering him, just letting him know that it was okay to go. Keamy was the one giving the orders. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:12, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Omar

Omar/Anthony Azizi has not appeared as any of the mercenaries on the island. Every reference to him in this article ought to be removed. Pierre80 03:08, 3 May 2008 (PDT)

After "Cabin Fever" we now know that he was one of the six mercenaries on the mission. He must have been the one in the brimmed hat, always just out of view. Possibly this camera work was meant to intentionally obscure him because the actor was not available for the filming of "The Shape of Things to Come" or "Something Nice Back Home". Robert K S (talk) 21:21, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
Yup, he strongly implies he was there. And yes, I noticed that the camera work was careful to hide all but Keamy in the on-island shots - the actors must not have been used. --Pedxing 10:54, 9 May 2008 (PDT)
It's confirmed, he's a mercenary. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:21, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Major Mistake

Freighter2-4x10

Unnamed Mercenary

Everybody, we have a major mistake here! The guy on this picture is not Copeland. Copeland & McCord were two men that went into the jungle and got ambushed - you should screengrab them from "There's No Place Like Home, Part 2", not from "Something Nice Back Home". The guy on the right picture stayed by the helicopter with Omar and Keamy and was shot by a toxic dart. This makes him the last unnamed member of the mercenary team - I think he deserves his own article: Unnamed mercenary.

4x13-Coopeland

Actual Coopeland

  • Maybe you're right. But we also know the third solider's name. I think Keamy said this: "Kocol, Lacour (or Copeland, McCord)" and he showed that the mercenaries should go back to the jungle. And the team leader said after that: "Redfern, on flank!" Of course I may misunderstand Keamy's lyrics. -- Norden 2 June 2008 (CEST)
  • I also heard "Kocol, Lacour...Redfern, on flank!" --Daftshadow 05:51, 2 June 2008 (PDT)
  • So, what exactly does the closed captions say? I suggest to wait until a reliable transcript is up. Malachi 10:26, 2 June 2008 (PDT)
    • I agree. -- Norden 20:03, 2 June 2008 (CEST)
      • Alright, this transcript does indeed names them Kocol, Lacour and Redfern. I'm going to make some changes. Malachi 00:33, 4 June 2008 (PDT)

Rollback

  • Mistertrouble's edits were rolled back, no external reference of widespread adoption of fan names were given. Also, MIA status is not given by dialog or action in the actual episode (i.e. it is fan speculation given other plot points). -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  20:40, 12 June 2008 (PDT)

Another merc?

After viewing "Something Nice Back Home" about twenty times, I can definitively say that Omar is not one of the six mercenaries that meet Frank. Keamy is leading, followed by Lacour, then Redfern and an unknown mercenary, definitely not Omar are carrying Mayhew, followed by Kocol, who is the only one seen to wear a brimmed hat. What's going on with that? Did Omar stay behind on the boat to maintain order?-- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:53, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Already brought up here. Robert K S (talk) 09:21, 20 June 2008 (PDT)
Ah, okay. I had hoped I wasn't the only one. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:23, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

I've read that the actor who played Omar wasn't available for all the episodes. Is it possible that the "extra" merc is supposed to be Omar, but they're using a stand-in? Both are bald, after all. Plus, didn't they use a stand-in for Bernard when we first saw the Tailies in silhouette at end of "Adrift"? --CurlyHairedGuy 09:35, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Yes, I'm fairly sure that's the case as well. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  09:39, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Actors?

Aside from Keamy and Omar, is there any way of finding out who protrayed Mayhew, Kocol, Lacour, and Redfern? -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:53, 14 July 2008 (PDT)

Is Omar a casualty?

Keamy inadvertently killed Omar by kicking the grenade over at him. Would this make Omar count as a casualty? I know I'm just nitpicking, but it is interesting. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  13:34, 22 July 2008 (PDT)

I wouldn't count him as a casualty. The mercenary team were meant 2 kill the people on the Island not members of their own team. Also Keamy kicked the grenade without thinking so he wouldn't get killed. --Ryan76el 13:42, 22 July 2008 (PDT)
Well, regardless of who they meant "2" kill, Keamy is inadvertently responsible for Omar's death. However, it was probably forced upon him, so I can see where you're coming from. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  13:44, 22 July 2008 (PDT)

I think Omar was a casualty, regardless of who killed him. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 15:20, 22 July 2008 (PDT)

I mean, should he go under the casualty section of the article, with Doug and Alex, etc. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  18:31, 22 July 2008 (PDT)
