Hurley is not a medium[]
Hurley believes he can communicate with the dead. But there is no evidence that he actually does. He is never shown to have gotten information that he couldn't have known or intuited otherwise. There are never any physical signs of the presence of the dead (like whatever Jacob is thrashing about the cabin). Whatever mental issue that Hurley has manifests partly as "other people" who speak to him as his own warring thoughts. Hurley feels guilty for leaving people behind on the island, so "Charlie" appears to represent them and tells him he needs to go back for them. Hurley is driving erratically through Los Angeles so "Ana Lucia" appears to tell him to drive more carefully. Jack shows up, and Hurley claims that "Charlie" appeared to him to tell him that he was going to do so. But we never saw such an apparition appear before Jack's visit. We only have Hurley's word that it occurred. Perhaps Hurley even had an internal mental vision of Charlie telling him Jack would visit. Because Jack is someone who had previously visited him at Santa Rosa.
But if Hurley IS seeing dead people, then EVERYONE who sees such an apparition is a medium, including Jack, Kate, Michael, Eko, etc., because they all had a similar experience or experiences, on and off the island. Namastizzay 05:48, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
- We've been lead to believe that Hurley is a medium, however, and he certainly believes it. They hammered that point in last week. However, I'll make a small change to add the uncertainty factor. -- Sam McPherson T C E 05:53, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
