POTW (Poll of the Week)

Lostpedia should have a POTW, just like AOTW. LP users can nominate their ideas for new polls, just like they nominate ideas for featured articles. --CTS 16:08, 10 May 2008 (PDT)

We do have a Poll of the Week, it just, as well as a lot of other things these days, doesn't get updated very often -random2502 18:10, 12 May 2008 (PDT)
I know we have a POTW, but it definitely isn't kept up to date. Users should be able to suggest ideas for new polls. --CTS 12:19, 18 May 2008 (PDT)
Maybe, instead of AOTW and POTW, they should be called "For Your Information" and "Current Poll."--Jim in Georgia Contribs Talk 12:29, 18 May 2008 (PDT)

Rate Theories

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this or if anyone might have already suggested this, but I think it would be a cool idea if there was a way that people could rate other people's theories. It would be a pretty fun thing to do and it would also help with keeping better theories and getting rid of the far fetched theories and theories that are extremely unlikely. I'm not sure if any of the higher ranked members could make this happen, or if they even would want this, but I thought I would just throw it out there and see what people thought. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lostbrotha (talkcontribs) 2008-05-13T15:46:57.

I think that's a good idea, but what safeguards would the concept include? Two I can think of would be a minimum number of votes and a requirement that some minimum number of follow-on episodes be aired. I haven't been parfticipating for all that long, but if I'd seen a theory last year that Sayid would someday be working for Ben, I'd have rated the comment as zero (and the contributor as insane?<g>). I realize that we're about to enter a long dry spell and the concept of follow-ons would be difficult to apply. How time-consuming would this be to implement? If the sysops are up to their hips in aligators, putting something else on their plates isn't going to improve Lostpedia.--Jim 06:10, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

I think this idea could actually help clean up the theory pages. One of the main problems with the theories pages is that people reply to other theories instead of only posting new theories. What if each new theory was posted as a link to all the other user's comments on that theory. We'd have a clean-looking theories page, and if people still wanted to see comments or make comments they'd be linked under each theory. I dont know about the whole ranking a theory thing tho...--Mr couchman 07:38, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

New Groups

Do we need to recognize the existence of new groups of people in the lost universe?

I'll admit the the lead is a little tenuous. We now have the Survivors' Camp, the Others, DHARMA, and the freighter.

The Survivors' Camp is currently fractured into at least two factions, but people keep changing their allegience. If there were two formal Lostie groups, bookkeeping would be a nightmare for the sysops and the rest of us, as well. We don't know how many factions there are among the others. Under one scenario, I can see the Losties who want to remain on the Island being adopted by the Others. We may even learn what the Others call themselves.

The people who leave the Island will be either known (The Oceanic 6) or unknown (Ben Linus and his followers).

DHARMA will still be there as an antagonist.

The Freighter will slip away into nowhere, perhaps literally, as there may not be anyone else aboard who knows how to navigate.

I suggest that this new group led by Ben be called the Avengers and the people who returned the Refugees.--Gaarmyvet 12:22, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

Renaming the Main Page

I would like to suggest the renaming of the main page from "Main Page" to "Lostpedia". --Xbenlinusx 22:52, 15 May 2008 (PDT)

This probably won't be implemented. We already have a Lostpedia article and Main Page is the name for the start page of pretty much every wiki ever. --Blueeagleislander 00:38, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
It has been demonstrated that renaming the main page to what the actual wiki is (e.g. 'Lostpedia'), it is returned higher in Google results, rather than just 'Main Page'. Leaving the title as 'Main Page' is a mistake. The Lostpedia article can easily be renamed to 'About Lostpedia'. --Xbenlinusx 00:47, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
If you Google "Lostpedia", the first result is "Main Page - Lostpedia". Why bother? --Blueeagleislander 00:48, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
It is something we're looking at and have been for a while. Its not as simple as "renaming the page" though.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  12:02, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
I'm fine with just plan "Main Page," but if it will be changed, I suggest "Lostpedia - Home." Or something to that effect. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:07, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
Home would do.. But to be honest Main Page has always worked absolutely fine for me. --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 02:37, 21 May 2008 (PDT)

Next Time On Lost

Are you guys sure that "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1" is airing at 8:00 eastern time next Wednesday, followed by "Cabin Fever" at 9:00? It seems weird ABC would air ep. 4x12 followed by ep. 4x11, and not the other way around. But, they have been known to make some bad scheduling calls. David 19:52, 20 May 2008 (PDT)

The POTW did not really ask opposing questions A better set would have been:

  • I want spoilers available
  • I do not want spoilers available
  • I do not care

Next Time on Lost

These aren't showing up correctly, at least for AU. We won't have the airing here until 5 June, rather than this Thursday, as shown on the front page. ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 00:14, 27 May 2008 (PDT)

Today in "LOST" History idea

This is probably something to be addressed in the 8-month hiatus rapidly approaching, but here goes anyway. Instead of sticking to strictly "in-show" dates, why not bring "real world" LOST dates on it as well? For example, May 29 could be "2008: There's No Place Like Home Parts 2 and 3' aired. It is still in LOST history, per se, just not in the timeline of the show's plot. If someone else can explain it better, please help me. Also, feel free to move this to a relevant talk page. Just an idea, since most days I come here and nothing happened in LOST history (this is very boring!). David 15:26, 27 May 2008 (PDT)

I think that suggestion is already under consideration somewhere else on the wiki. Can't remember where. --Blueeagleislander 00:00, 28 May 2008 (PDT)

Main Characters

Nikki, Paulo, Daniel, Charlotte and Miles??—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 01lander (talkcontribs) .

Their role as main characters is debateable, since none appeared on the season dvd covers, and on the official season poster (except for nikki and paulo who appeared on the 2nd one). Their status as main characters has always been debated. --CTS 15:36, 28 May 2008 (PDT)
Based on them having flashbacks and cast members who have had "main cast" status, rather than a guest star billing.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  15:53, 28 May 2008 (PDT)
I seem to remember there was a similar debate about Rose and Bernard.--Baker1000 17:07, 28 May 2008 (PDT)

Surely the fact that they're all in the opening credits as main cast members, that constitutes putting them in that category??? They're also on the main characters page! PLUS, Nikki, Paulo and Charlotte had promotional pictures taken of them... 01lander

There are quantities of websites specialized in spoilers. Try DarkUFO and knock yourself out. What's more unfair is people who don't wanna be spoiled and get spoiled by malevolent and/or frustrated beings.--Lauridsen77 05:29, 31 May 2008 (PDT)

  • I may have missed something. Does that mean the Season 5/spoilers page too?--Baker1000 05:03, 1 June 2008 (PDT)
  • Speaking of spoilers, and I know that the Season 4 finale has aired in the US, but it hasn't here in Australia, and anyone who opens the front page of Lostpedia now gets a nice shot of the identity of Jeremy Bentham in the coffin. Bit early to have something like that showing on the main page isn't it?? --Lostie247 23:42, 3 June 2008 (PDT)
Well, although I am Australian, the site is officially updated with US airdates. But I do agree that such a huge spoiler should not be at the top of the main page that soon after the episode. --Blueeagleislander 01:34, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
Exactly. If it were a month down the track, then you'd be a fool to come on here and not expect to see an image like this, but it shouldn't be this close to the top of the front page within a week of the episode airing. --Lostie247 06:47, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
  • I agree, also many people may have recorded the final episode and not watched it yet. Very poor decision to post that picture 'above the fold' on the main page. Bad Lostpedia.--Cunningmunki 05:13, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
  • Yes, Lostpedia is updated based on US airdates, but this is a case where we should be extra careful. I changed the picture to something that doesn't give away the identity of Bentham.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 06:57, 4 June 2008 (PDT)
  • Thank you for removing spoilers. I Love the theories, some of use are right, some way off. Part of the fun of Lost is trying to figure out what is going on. Seeing people post spoilers where we aren't expecting them is like playing a game with a cheater. -Ruezon

Four toed footprint found on Mars

I was hoping there could be a joke article placed in the Latest News section relating to the recent photo from the Phoenix robot explorer of a FOUR TOED FOOTPRINT FOUND ON MARS.

i.e. "the imprint, shaped like a four-toed foot, is the first to be left in soil by the Phoenix probes robotic arm"...Fact? Another NASA cover-up? Or has LOST just given us a giant wink wink?

Just A Suggestion

I was just wondering, when writing the character articles, instead of splitting it up into seasons we could split it into months (September - December.) This would help in two ways. Firstly, it would make it more coherent with the Post-Island section (for those who have one) as that is organized by dates. But, secondly, it would aide in better organizing the pages of characters, and I'm using Juliet as a specific example here, who didn't appear until later seasons but we have been clued into their story after the crash. This would work for many of our characters - Juliet, Ben, Daniel, Charlotte, Miles ... the list goes on. Please give feedback. (Jamster 05:03, 20 May 2008 (PDT))

"Lost Current Time"

I am proposing that we look at declaring at what point the show is considered "in the present" and present things such as the portals, and the status of the characters based upon "Lost Current Time". Lost current time would be the confirmable date that the shows storyline has been presented as in the present, rather than in a flash foward. This would currently make Lost Current Time : 7th January 2005, the moment the Lostee's wash up on the beach on the island of Sumba. Anything after that point has been presented to us in flash foward. Obviously Season 5 might change this a little, but having a site wide agreed consistent point from which we base statuses of characters, and their current situation (Locke's for example) would be beneficial for the site.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  17:07, 7 June 2008 (PDT)

Where is this proposal being discussed? Robert K S (talk) 17:38, 7 June 2008 (PDT)

Not those that are very far behind airing the episodes (The major ones are done, however). Still, we should keep it up for those few users from non-mainstream-airing countries (as in most countries that dub LOST in another language), as they, at least via legal viewings, most likely won't have seen part or all of season 4. David 21:14, 11 June 2008 (PDT)
