I have just completed pages for the Timeline and DVD details. Could you add them to the front page. --[[User:Surveyor|Surveyor]] 01:59, 10 February 2006 (PST)

Another suggestion

How about adding a link on the main page for discussion about The Others. We're starting to learn a lot more about them.

And another: When adding facts about characters or whatever, wouldn't it be helpful to cite the relevant episode(s)? -syphax

How about a snarky comments page? There are some times when you just want to make fun of Jack for having a stick up his butt.

Statement about the ads on this site

Hello! Very nice site. I love the idea of helping you building up a wiki about LOST.

But the thing which really disturbes me is the advertisment on this homepage, which contradicts the idea of a wiki! Where does it come from? Who earns money by showing these ads? I only think that it would be fair to point out that to all the people contibuting here. Bye --80.131.246.106 15:27, 11 November 2005 (PST)

Well, the ad is really just a test at this point. I added it to help offset the costs of running this site. I would be willing to try a donation based model. Do you think people would contribute? --Admin 10:35, 13 November 2005 (PST)

Nice Job with the changes to the Main Page...

Relevant Literary Works

How about adding the following bullet point to the "Interesting Themes" section -- ·Appearance of Literary Works --BrianSTL 10:04, 2 November 2005 (PST)

Added! --Admin 14:26, 16 November 2005 (PST)

Spammer

What does internet telephony and that long list of links, most of which have nothing to do with internet telephony, have do do with the LOSTpedia? Is this just an advertisement in disguise? --65.64.147.253 11:03, 16 November 2005 (PST)

Yes, It was a spammer. I've blocked his network and removed the ads. --Admin 14:26, 16 November 2005 (PST)

BLOCKED HIM AGAIN. Sorry about that. --Admin 02:22, 20 November 2005 (PST)

Anagrams

We know from the ABC site that Ethan Rom is an anagram of "Other Man".

On this LOSTpedia page (Dr. Marvin Candle), it is asserted that Doctor Marvin Candle is an anagram of "Montand Liar Cover".

Also, Alvar Hanso = Sharon Alva = Lars Navaho

Are any other character names anagrams? Ethan Rom was one of "the Others"... will all of those who are "the others" have names that are anagrams? Is Dr. Marvin Candle one of the others?

Would "anagram-able names" be a valid "interesting theme"?

Somebody smarter than me crack this site please

http://thedharmainitiative.org/login.html how do you crack this code?

Here is the jist of whats to be done to crack this

the username and password are encrypted using MD5. the JS file for this, which contains all the content to decrypt is at

http://thedharmainitative.org/md5.js

and the username and password Username hash = 4ce8eb77952dcf34505de7e04fd68fc7 Password hash = 732d9dda7f79c827c4453bda8f2d441a

MD5 isn't something I am used to, or know about so someone else will have to delve further --Plkrtn 04:05, 30 January 2006 (PST)

Typo

It's NOT Kate Austin, it's supposed to be "Kate Austen" instead. Make note of that. — 24.15.6.252 18:59, 30 November 2005 (PST)

LOST Links

I've been searching answers about LOST over the past few weeks and my researches led me to several interresting sites, i'll make a list of them here because sometimes i found more info on them and i think everything should be here... (i also think that wikipedia isn't the right place to create so much pages on a FICTION)

These 3 sites needs attention as they seems to be the cleaner i found, you should make contact with them maybe to regroup or connect the databases . ??

besides i question myself about the verracity of some other lost sites such as:

I checked the Source code and whois record, all seems different or hidden, some people claim it's fan-created.

these two are officials

we should put order into that

ToMA ToMA@ToMA.be (not user yet)

  • http://www.thehansofoundation.org/ is almost certainly an official site since the whois record shows "Registrant Name:ABC, Inc." and it links to disney.com Terms of Use, just as oceanicflight815.com does.
  • http://www.oceanic-air.com/ is (c) 2005 TouchStone Television and links to Terms of Use on the disney.com site and so is also almost certainly official.

I think that if it is doubtful whether a site is official or not (I've seen the terms 'canon'/'non-canon' used) it should be pointed out at the top of the individual page, e.g. dharmainitiative.com.

I found a new code from the Oceanic-air.com

When at the Oceanic-air.com home page, scroll your mouse over paragraph that all says "IMPORTANT NOTICE, ALL FLIGHTS CANCELED" move your mouse over the paragraph at the bottom, and a message in between the lines will show up. Highlight that, then copy and paste it into a word document. it will show a message obviously from one of the survivors from the crash. CHECK THIS OUT, IT MIGHT BE ANOTHER CLUE!

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child

This spammer problem we've been having... It's too tiring. Just now I found someone from 72.153.183.252 vandalizing pages. Is the Bob affair just a symptom? Shall we start giving conditional memberships? Is that against the Wiki spirit? Does it contribute to a LOST-like atmosphere? Unseen attackers coming from nowhere destroying everything we hold dear? Are other wikis similarly afflicted? --GodEmperorOfHell 22:09, 21 January 2006 (PST)

As sad as it sounds, I think that membership editing only may be the future of this wiki. Sadly the community isn't large enough to eradicate spam effectively. Of course, anyone should be able to be a member without question, and then removed if they are spamming... but it might be the only way to minimise the amounts of spam that appear. --Plkrtn 12:46, 23 January 2006 (PST)

No idea, this is my first time working on a wiki

But I figure there's always someone in the world who will just be seeking attention, right? --Circeus 23:57, 21 January 2006 (PST)

Sorry about the Fire + Water thing...

plus (+) is a special wiki character and it needed to be straightened out, took a bit --Circeus 10:45, 22 January 2006 (PST)

Editorial Policy

As you may have noticed I am being, and want very much to be a very active member of this site. I was planning to set up my own wiki till I discovered this one, so I thought, why not join in.

However, there is no editorial policy as of yet. Should an editorial policy be in place regarding what this site should log? Should it log just facts or allow speculation to be included in the wiki. As I understand it, this site is designed to build an independent Lost encyclopaedia of information to track the story lines of the show. So should speculation be kept to a minimum, and reported clearly as not necessarily canon (such as my article on Geronimo Jackson which reports speculation, but says MAY and highlights the fact that the geronimo-jackson.com site is not necessarily an official site) --Plkrtn 12:44, 23 January 2006 (PST)

As this is the place for everything related to LOST, I think speculation is included under the Theories title. As speculation over the nature of The Security System is a hot topic, it must definitively be included in the relevant article. There is a complete absence of fanfic and slash, as well as other fan-generated material. The user who edited Boone's entry to include homoerotic relationships to other characters may only be quoting from slash fiction. Alas, he didn't stress the difference. I don't support including fanon in the individual entries, nevertheless there should be links as well as short reviews to fanfiction and fanart sites. (Sorry, I am too busy finding parodies to do it.) --GodEmperorOfHell 13:00, 23 January 2006 (PST)

I agree theories and speculation should be included on the site, but I think it should be clearly marked, and also where possible written in the third person. I think there is a difference between what is a persons individual conjecture and well held theories that have been suggested by many. --Plkrtn 13:08, 23 January 2006 (PST)

I agree about speculation, I mean outside of pure facts, and the fun stuff like paradoies, everything else on this site is pretty much speculation. And that's not a bad thing at all. Speculation is just a way of making heads or tails of the facts really. As for fanfic type stuff, I don't mind links to it, but I don't appreciate at all when people add its as facts to the character descriptions, as I don't think its appropriate. Now if Charlie and Hurley really did kiss in a broadcast that'd be different, and then it'd be appropriate to have on the site. --Circeus 15:09, 23 January 2006 (PST)

Oh also, when I first straightened out all the characters and actors, etc. I tried to give them a fairly standardized format for people to follow in the future. I mean I didn't put it in stone (this was before I was given Admin privs), but I did attempt to remain consistent throughout. And I agree with GodEmperorOfHell, if its speculation push it down on a page into a section labeled theories. --Circeus 15:09, 23 January 2006 (PST)

Speculation isn't a bad thing. I think people posting widely regarded theories, such as those repeated multi-times on forums or on podcasts (especially any with listener feedback) should be OK. However I think an individual idea you come up with should be in the theories section. Should we look at starting a "Posting Guideline" --Plkrtn 15:46, 23 January 2006 (PST)

Im sure we would all agree that as we delve deeper into the world of Lost, there are more questions posed than answers given. For me this is the beauty of the show and allmost certainly the reason most of us bother to read or contribute to sites such as this. It seems to me that without questions and speculation most of us would not be here, so therefore it only stands to reason that conjecture be included on these pages (but obviously marked as such) or else where is the fun in it? To me ,and im sure most of you guys, Lost is more about about posing questions and prompting thought and debate than anything else (well, making shedloads of cash aside ;) so cataloging the questions and even the crakpot internet theories is actually an important part of recording the shows cultural impact, which is what people, ourselves included will be looking back at with our grandkids in a few years time. Im new to this site, and i dont have much time on my hands, but i will endeavour to do what i can to update the site with any facts i can glean and also give a little of my perspective where i can and where apropriate :)

Uhmmm...

Charlie and Hurley kissing in a broadcast... that would be in Lost The Musical. Of course, It's in a parody and it would never count, either as canon or fanon. But the Lost Rhapsody features the Monster forming the face of Mr. Paik, hmm... now that's interesting...
Regarding guidelines. I would take speculation about Mr. Friendly as an example. Someone said that Sawyer might have known him before or that he was making a reference to Ezekiel, but that's not in the spirit of Sawyer and we are all familiar for his knack for nicknames. That kind of thoughts fall in the speculation section.

We could respect the formats we already have;

  • Character's entries are divided in Before the crash, On the Island and Theories. The first two sections must include officially released information or other information with proper sources, as the puzzle sites.
  • We must agree on a standarized format on the following:
    • Episode entries
    • Creators/actors entries
    • Miscellaneous entries

What about a 'List of nicknames said by Sawyer'?--GodEmperorOfHell 05:21, 24 January 2006 (PST)

Well... I meant broadcast of Lost, thought that was implied considering the conversation at had. The nicknames list is a good idea. Maybe it should hold to just Sawyer though, but rather a sort of list of: nickname, who said it, who it was in reference to. Because, while the majority come from Sawyer, there are a few others floating around. --Circeus 07:14, 24 January 2006 (PST)

Cleaning up the front page

I've done some work to make the front page look a lot more appealing than it did. It was very basic. Hopefully with these latest tweaks, I've modernised the place.

I might have made some mistakes, or not edited it the way some people would like, but I am still learning Wiki Syntax, so it might take me a while to get everything how we'd all like it. --Plkrtn 04:10, 25 January 2006 (PST)

I think it's great :) Thanks! --Admin 20:19, 25 January 2006 (PST)

Our categories

We have many unused and/or underused categories, as well as many uncategorized pages. I'll try to work on this. The best underused category is Cultural References, which only has two entries; Finding Nemo and Voltron. The entry on Harry Potter, Lord of the Flies, Mouse Trap and the Bible belong there.

Looking good

Your wiki's starting to take shape. But your opening line needs work.

"Anyone can edit this page even you!"

Not anymore, the main page is "View Source" only (protected).

So... something else perhaps? 70.70.212.72 (A guy at the HRWiki) @ 23:32, 27 January 2006 (PST)

EDIT: So uh... You guys aren't gonna change it, eh? Okie dokie then. Just seems kinda weird. "Anyone can edit this page, even you!"

Oh wait, you can't.

Well, sir. It is normal that Wiki frontpages are protected, we are still recovering from some crippling incidents with smpammers and trolls. As you see, we are working to improve Lostpedia. We encourage you to register, you already know it is important, and please, help us. Any recommendations are welcome and as soon as we think of an alternative to the problem you pointed above we will work on it. Your wiki looks G-E-W-D gewd! You HR guys do a fine jorb! --GodEmperorOfHell 08:59, 29 January 2006 (PST)

Aaron / Arron

You've got Aaron's name as Arron on the frontpage. Lexicon 17:49, 29 January 2006 (PST)

Logo Change

Without any disrespect for Darth Annaud, I think it's about time to change our current logo for one without copyrighted material. I propose a contest. We are undergoing a makeover and a new logo would come in handy. --GodEmperorOfHell 18:31, 29 January 2006 (PST)

Yeah, its a really nice logo, but branching to something uniquely "our" own might be a better choice. Personally, I think we should have 4 logos available, one for the top left wiki-logo. One for the front page main intro, a banner add (just-in-case we want it for something), and a linkable for people to place at their own websites. I will also add that I am no artist. I did however take the two old logo contest pages put them into a Contests category. --Circeus 21:45, 29 January 2006 (PST)

We need admin to come in on this one, as he is the only one who can affect logo changes as far as i understand. We do need to try and branch out on our own visually, Lostpedia looks like Wikipedia by far too much. I like the brightness of the site, But as it stands we are visually no different from Wikipedia.... Is anyone handy with Wiki templates too? --Plkrtn 07:20, 31 January 2006 (PST)

Templates

Templates are great, but tracking them is a bit annoying. Is there some sort of Special page widget we can install for tracking them? Right now I've added them all to my watchlist, but that seems cumbersome. --Circeus 08:17, 31 January 2006 (PST)

I know this is a bit artificial, but in the meantime here's a List of Templates. Just list the ones you create here. --GodEmperorOfHell 09:46, 31 January 2006 (PST)

Timeline/Chronology

Would you be interested in adding a timeline to this Wiki. I have one that I have written for a forum in the UK, so it wouldn't take long to upload it. --Surveyor 04:43, 5 February 2006 (PST)

A timeline would be great! --Admin 14:44, 5 February 2006 (PST)

I have just completed pages for the Timeline and DVD details. Could you add them to the front page. --Surveyor 01:59, 10 February 2006 (PST)
