AOTW Questoin

I just noticed the Article of the Week isn't up. Is there a problem? Or is there a reason? Perhaps this has been addressed... sorry if it has - didn't see anything that answered my question.--Cormacalian 14:26, 31 March 2008 (PDT)

I've been wondering what has happened to AOTW? Does anyone know? It hasn't been up for weeks without any explanation. --CTS 16:38, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

Supporting Characters

At the index on the bottom of the main page, how come Karen & Gerald DeGroot are on the supporting characters list? They only appeared on Lost during the orientation films. Also when you click on the supporting characters link they aren't there. And why are Paulo and Nikki listed as supporting characters but when you click on the main characters link they are on there? just wondering... ToTheCaves 14:29, 1 March 2008 (PST)

The index hasn't really been looked after well in recent months. I'll try and overhaul it when I can.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  04:00, 3 March 2008 (PST)

I think it's good where it is, reading the whole thing as one sentence makes sense that way: "Welcome to Lostpedia, the Lost encyclopedia. We'll be you constant..." -random2502 15:34, 3 March 2008 (PST)

It works fine for me, well... fine in theory but come on, Hurley's episode was great! Where's all the votes? -random2502 23:00, 5 March 2008 (PST)
It's cos we've had so many good episodes. If the season keeps on like this (i.e. 80% AWESOME episodes and 20% average ones (eggtown)), it's definitely going to the be the best ever. --Blueeagleislander 23:27, 5 March 2008 (PST)
  • Mr.Leaf usually updates it, but he's been very busy and hasn't been able to edit recently. I have access to create polls now, so I can also help out updating. -- Graft   talk   contributions  19:16, 7 March 2008 (PST)

Latest News Section

Seems to be cluttering the main page. Can we get rid of some of the old stories and clear this thing up? -- Iron Man  Send a message  View contributions  16:48, 5 March 2008 (PST)

What's your resolution? 640x480?    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 05:48, 6 March 2008 (PST)
I think they mean there's just so many news stories all there at once, and I kind of agree. Are all six stories still relevant? Do we still need to know about extra post-Economist content when we're already weeks past that episode? -random2502 12:04, 6 March 2008 (PST)
I agree. Several of the news articles are not needed anymore, namely Wanted: Via Domus Gamers and Additional Post-Economist Content. The other news items are still current, and are probably more sought=after items of information. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:08, 6 March 2008 (PST)

The main page needs to be updated to reflect that "The Other Woman," not "The Constant," is the most recently aired episode. --Jeff 09:08, 7 March 2008 (PST)

I'm pretty sure they're waiting until the episode's article looks complete. Last week's episode took awhile to go up, as well. MFXD 09:43, 7 March 2008 (PST)

The UK 'Next time on Lost' is wrong, it says we are seeing the new episode of Lost a week early, we haven't seen The Other Woman yet but it says Ji Yeon is on tonight. --Jazza|talk|Contributions 06:28, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

Spring clean?

"Today in Lost History: Nothing happened today in Lost History". I have never seen this box with anything else in it. Do we really need it? It actually makes the page look a bit lame. Add that to the ancient "New Features" and the broken "Featured Article of the Week" and it gives the impression that nothing is happening here. Can somebody have a tidy up please? Some new news items would be nice too. The main page has to look active or it just diminishes from all the hard work everyone puts in elsewhere.--TechNic|talk|conts 14:54, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

I think the News, Spoiler Warning and Next Time On Lost sections could be reduced in size by 50% each. Bring the poll and media appearances up closer to the top, and maybe add a section for links to new transcripts, podcasts etc. what do you think? --Hugo815 15:11, 11 March 2008 (PDT)

Times Change

When you go to daylight time, the time suffix you use for local time also changes. Thus tomorrow night's episode is on at 9 EDT, not 9 EST --Zicsoft 16:07, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

Thanks for the heads up, I've changed it. -- Graft   talk   contributions  16:42, 12 March 2008 (PDT)

Season 4 Writing contest

As much as I loved it, it should be changed now as it still says people can take part in the contest which is now over. Instead why don't you put a note up saying about the option to Continue your own Writing. Which is on the board as wel las directing visitors to the LostPedia Season 4 writing contest page and episode summaries? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Whsipers (talkcontribs) 2008-03-14T11:29:52.

For me it comes back for a while, then goes again. Any idea what might be the problem?--Baker1000 06:30, 20 March 2008 (PDT)

There have been some problems. It should be solved now. It might take a couple of days to fix though. Where you do see an image problem, try editing the image and making them 1px wider. Sounds silly, but it should regenerate the thumb nail, should you be worried enough not to wait.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  08:38, 20 March 2008 (PDT)

Colour key

Now I knwo you guys have diofferent colours to represent different status' red-dead, blue-alive with survivors etc. But I think you need another one to signify to readers that some characters maybe alive on the island and deceased in flashforwards, when we learn this information of course, and when it's confirmed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Whsipers (talkcontribs) 2008-03-14T13:46:37.

I think that would be too confusing. Better to stick to the most recent non-flashforward scenes to determine a character's status. - Tvb 19:06, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

Links

I do not particularly like how all the links were changed to green for St. Patricks Day because it makes them difficult to see. --Connor401 17:17, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

I don't really see the difference between green and blue, but if you have a particular eyesight problem you should be able to override in your own browser, or by editing your own personal lostbook.css file (make a sub-page under your user page. See mine for an example: User:jabrwocky7/lostbook.css. If others agree that it's difficult to see it could be reverted. It's just temporary and for a little fun.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 18:56, 15 March 2008 (PDT)

Chris and Connor - I've created some custom CSS for you guys that forces the links to the defaults, no matter what we change them to. Let me know if causes any new issues.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 09:08, 17 March 2008 (PDT)

I've renamed it to changelog.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 12:10, 17 March 2008 (PDT)

Btw, shouldn't the Chinese and Japanes wikis be added to the changelog? --Blueeagleislander 17:02, 20 March 2008 (PDT)

Why are Juliet and Ben listed with both first and last name when the rest of the main cast are only listed by the name they are commonly known as. Those two should be altered to be consistent. Lost Season 1 reshowing in UK

Just saw an advert on E4 (a part of Channel 4, who had the rights to Series 1 and 2 of Lost in the UK) are reshowing Seasons 1 and 2 of Lost starting tomorrow Sat 12 Apr at 7pm. I didn't know whether this is worth including on the front page, as it's been kept pretty low-key. This is interesting as Sky bought the rights for the show for Seasons 3 - 6. In the advert, they mentioned something like "We saw that we still had the first couple seasons of Lost, so we decided to show it to you." --denmengnash 14:01, 11 April 2008 (PDT)

Today in Lost History

  • Okay. So the "Today in Lost History" section is almost never updated. So I propose it be changed to a "this month in Lost history" section. Therefore, it is easier to add information to, doesn't require constant editing, and is just all around easier. Thoughts? -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  21:44, 11 April 2008 (PDT)
    • I say no, because Sep-Dec would take up the whole page! --Blueeagleislander 02:47, 12 April 2008 (PDT)
Well, do you have any other ideas besides having an always-blank template take up room on a page? This week in Lost history? -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:12, 12 April 2008 (PDT)
  • I think a "This week in Lost history" is a good idea--Phil (talk) 12:16, 12 April 2008 (PDT)
  • "This week" would be OK, but maybe you also need to broaden the information eg. to include things like cast and crew birthdays (and other notable events eg. when certain cast members were arrested on DUIs, etc) so that every week has some content...(maybe even rename it "This week in the Lost Universe"). The present situation of having it say "nothing happened today" days on end doesn't look good.--Kivipat
    • I agree that "This Week" is a good idea, but I don't think events external to the broadcast story are of any value at all. The fact that X was arrested for doing Y doesn't get us to the end of the Lost epic. Can the process be automated?--Gaarmyvet 14:21, 1 May 2008 (PDT)

14th hour

It's official - we should update the page to include the ABC press release instead of just the stuff from rumor sites. Also, ABC describes the last night as a two hour finale, instead of a three hour finale split over two nights like the other sources said. [1] --Minderbinder 11:43, 15 April 2008 (PDT)

If someone writes a news brief based on the release, I'll add it to the news.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 12:28, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

UK return delayed one week

Sky One has just amended it's schedules, reacting to the new news about the finale. In order to prevent that one week gap between episodes 12 and 13, episode 9 has been pushed back one week. So the UK will now be 10 days behind the US, until episode 12 airs on May 25. The finale, episode 13, will then air in the UK on June 1, 3 days after the US, avoiding the one-week break.

Therefore, the front page should now read "United Kingdom: Lost will return May 4, 2008." Bluejam 01:48, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

Source? Every source I have, including Sky One's website administrators are still saying April 27th.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  02:02, 16 April 2008 (PDT)

It cracked me up, and it doesn't bother me on the front page because it calls attention to it. My only concern are the copyright issues. -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 08:00, 20 April 2008 (PDT)
I do think it looks out of place. Especially as it's in the "Next Time on Lost" section, when it's actually a recap. I wouldn't mind if it was a trailer for 4x09 though.--Baker1000 08:27, 20 April 2008 (PDT)
I think I agree that it should be a trailer for 4x09 and not a recap, it is under the NTOL section afterall -random2502 15:07, 20 April 2008 (PDT)
As I understand it, we wouldn't have the upcoming episode's trailer on the main page as it would be considered a spoiler. The inclusion of this video doesn't appear to be a copyright issue as it is a promotional video, released by ABC for the purposes of advertising the show and DVDs. However, I do agree that it looks a bit big and ugly in its current placement.--TechNic|talk|conts 15:27, 20 April 2008 (PDT)

However the web site says the next episode shown will be "Meet Kevin Johnson", Which was the last episode that played on RTE Two before the break in episodes. Im not sure if this is an error or if they plan to play that episode again. I'll update as soon as I find out. Could someone please update the main page to at least show the date and time? Thanks a million --Mr couchman 05:35, 23 April 2008 (PDT)

Interviews

Could we have a link on the main page to The Lostpedia Interview: Elizabeth Sarnoff? I think it'd be good to make people aware it's happening: so far, only two or three people here on the Wiki have submitted questions. --  Lost Soul   talk  contribs  01:25, 27 April 2008 (PDT)

New Zealand template can be updated to include episode

The latest NZ TV guide has the episode "The Shape of Things to Come" airing on Wednesday May 7 at 8.30 on TV2.--Kivipat 17:37, 27 April 2008 (PDT)

What happened to the Featured AOTW?

It has been weeks since the AOTW has been featured. Can a SysOp or a user explain why this is so? Is there a reason that there isn't a featured article every week? --CTS 18:37, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

It's a shame isn't it? I asked the same thing here. I think Mr.Leaf and Nickb123 used to be pretty active organisors of it, but I haven't seen them around for ages.--TechNic|talk|conts 19:02, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

I know. I kinda miss them. lol -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  19:03, 29 April 2008 (PDT)

I think another SysOp should take the responsibility to do the featured article. I haven't seen a single wiki online that just 'forgets' about the featured article. It's a great idea to do the AOTW and someone should organize it. --CTS 20:19, 30 April 2008 (PDT)

Maybe it needs to come back to the community. Robert is the only regularly active SysOp at the moment and as such he has enough to be getting on with. I'm hoping that the others are busy with exams at the moment, but a look at their contributions pages shows a significant delcine in their activity.--TechNic|talk|conts 20:38, 30 April 2008 (PDT)
I'm happy to do whatever needs doing, but I'll need a little instruction. How should the article be picked, and what do I need to do to insert it as featured? Should only older, stable articles be featured, or should newer and interesting articles that need TLC also be in the running? Is there some page where users can submit nominations? Robert K S (talk) 21:01, 30 April 2008 (PDT)
The selection page is here: Lostpedia:Featured article selection. Note that it's rather out of date. For example, Whispers has since been made featured article, as indicated by the little orange star in the top right corner and its inclusion in Category:Featured Articles. Dunno when that happened though, but it ought to be in the archive somewhere. Might be easiest to just wipe it all and start with a clean slate.--TechNic|talk|conts 21:13, 30 April 2008 (PDT)
Thanks for the advice, Nic. For my first time out I chose the podcast portal which I find is both (a) a useful and expansive directory of content and (b) can direct users to where work is needed (on completing untranscribed podcasts). Hopefully nobody disagrees too much with this choice, but if you do, a new week is coming up soon, so get your submissions in on the nomination page. Robert K S (talk) 07:50, 1 May 2008 (PDT)
Hurrah! Thanks for that Robert. Loving your work! :-) You'll see I've tried to tidy up the archives a little. I guess the best way to clear up the rest of the rest of the noms still on the page is to vote on them and get the accepted or rejected. I'm going to do that now... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TechNic (talkcontribs) 2008-05-01T10:27:14.
I want it back too :) --Avindratalkcontribs email  03:25, 1 May 2008 (PDT)

New time for Canada

Right, well, I just finished watching Lost on CTV. It plays at 8 Atlantic, so 7pm EST I believe.FralfTC 17:01, 1 May 2008 (PDT)

Will it be the same as last season, where we only update the wiki after it airs on ABC to save spoilers for all non-Canadians?--Baker1000 17:47, 1 May 2008 (PDT)
Are you sure, Fralf? CTV's online TV listing says 10 PM still. danhm 16:39, 8 May 2008 (PDT)
I just saw Episode 4x11 at 7pm EST. I recall reading somewhere that only Eastern Canada gets it early. FralfTC 17:11, 8 May 2008 (PDT)

Australian timeslot

For the record, Australia's Seven has (stupidly) moved Lost an hour later to 10:30pm. --Blueeagleislander 02:37, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

I posted this fact on the Australian episode and timeslot template (Template talk:AUShowGuide) but it seems nobody has noticed. This needs to be changed to 10:30pm ASAP. --Lakeyboy 20:32, 6 May 2008 (PDT)

Spoiler Warning Update

The main page should be updated to Something Nice Back Home. --Mapleleaf50 11:05, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

Yeah, and a dozen other protected pages on Lostpedia are either pre-410 or even pre-409. You guys are usually pretty good at keeping on top of this stuff. What happened the past couple weeks? -- Michael Lucero * Talk * Contributions
There's a lack of sysop activity atm compared to normal I've noticed. --Blueeagleislander 18:10, 2 May 2008 (PDT)
Now not only is there still no update, but the title for episode 9 on the main page was changed to the episode number. What's the logic or sense in that? -- Michael Lucero * Talk * Contributions

Name of the new Episode

Wasn't the name of the new episode (season 4 episode 11) confirmed in the recent video podcast? Next time on Lost should read that name, not "Season 4, Episode 11".--Sentient nebula 09:55, 4 May 2008 (PDT)

A few of the templates have not been updated since the new episode. A number of the SysOps (who are the only ones with powers to update them) are not regularly active right now. Be patient, it will all be sorted out soon (I hope).--Baker1000 10:09, 4 May 2008 (PDT)
Actually, patience isn't the best way to deal with these sorts of problems. The best way is to notify the most recently active SysOps with what specifically needs to be updated (i.e. provide specific links). Sorry about everything being behind. I'm trying to deal with it, but I don't always catch everything, so that's why it's important to notify me or one of the other SysOps when you find something you'd like to be able to fix but can't. Robert K S (talk) 10:12, 4 May 2008 (PDT)
Could you update the Season 4 page? It hasn't been updated since LOST came back. Thanks.--Baker1000 10:16, 4 May 2008 (PDT)
How about this. I'll unprotect it temporarily and let responsible Lostpedians bring it back into shape. Please remember Lostpedia:Spoiler Policy that we shouldn't be giving away any details about future episodes except for the title of the next upcoming episode. Thanks for helping out! Robert K S (talk) 10:43, 4 May 2008 (PDT)

POTW (Poll of the Week)

Lostpedia should have a POTW, just like AOTW. LP users can nominate their ideas for new polls, just like they nominate ideas for featured articles. --CTS 16:08, 10 May 2008 (PDT)

We do have a Poll of the Week, it just, as well as a lot of other things these days, doesn't get updated very often -random2502 18:10, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Rate Theories

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this or if anyone might have already suggested this, but I think it would be a cool idea if there was a way that people could rate other people's theories. It would be a pretty fun thing to do and it would also help with keeping better theories and getting rid of the far fetched theories and theories that are extremely unlikely. I'm not sure if any of the higher ranked members could make this happen, or if they even would want this, but I thought I would just throw it out there and see what people thought. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lostbrotha (talkcontribs) 2008-05-13T15:46:57.

I think that's a good idea, but what safeguards would the concept include? Two I can think of would be a minimum number of votes and a requirement that some minimum number of follow-on episodes be aired. I haven't been parfticipating for all that long, but if I'd seen a theory last year that Sayid would someday be working for Ben, I'd have rated the comment as zero (and the contributor as insane?<g>). I realize that we're about to enter a long dry spell and the concept of follow-ons would be difficult to apply. How time-consuming would this be to implement? If the sysops are up to their hips in aligators, putting something else on their plates isn't going to improve Lostpedia.--Jim 06:10, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

I think this idea could actually help clean up the theory pages. One of the main problems with the theories pages is that people reply to other theories instead of only posting new theories. What if each new theory was posted as a link to all the other user's comments on that theory. We'd have a clean-looking theories page, and if people still wanted to see comments or make comments they'd be linked under each theory. I dont know about the whole ranking a theory thing tho...--Mr couchman 07:38, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

New Groups

Do we need to recognize the existence of new groups of people in the lost universe?

I'll admit the the lead is a little tenuous. We now have the Survivors' Camp, the Others, DHARMA, and the freighter.

The Survivors' Camp is currently fractured into at least two factions, but people keep changing their allegience. If there were two formal Lostie groups, bookkeeping would be a nightmare for the sysops and the rest of us, as well. We don't know how many factions there are among the others. Under one scenario, I can see the Losties who want to remain on the Island being adopted by the Others. We may even learn what the Others call themselves.

The people who leave the Island will be either known (The Oceanic 6) or unknown (Ben Linus and his followers).

DHARMA will still be there as an antagonist.

The Freighter will slip away into nowhere, perhaps literally, as there may not be anyone else aboard who knows how to navigate.

I suggest that this new group led by Ben be called the Avengers and the people who returned the Refugees.--Gaarmyvet 12:22, 14 May 2008 (PDT)

Renaming the Main Page

I would like to suggest the renaming of the main page from "Main Page" to "Lostpedia". --Xbenlinusx 22:52, 15 May 2008 (PDT)

This probably won't be implemented. We already have a Lostpedia article and Main Page is the name for the start page of pretty much every wiki ever. --Blueeagleislander 00:38, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
It has been demonstrated that renaming the main page to what the actual wiki is (e.g. 'Lostpedia'), it is returned higher in Google results, rather than just 'Main Page'. Leaving the title as 'Main Page' is a mistake. The Lostpedia article can easily be renamed to 'About Lostpedia'. --Xbenlinusx 00:47, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
If you Google "Lostpedia", the first result is "Main Page - Lostpedia". Why bother? --Blueeagleislander 00:48, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
It is something we're looking at and have been for a while. Its not as simple as "renaming the page" though.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  12:02, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
I'm fine with just plan "Main Page," but if it will be changed, I suggest "Lostpedia - Home." Or something to that effect. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  12:07, 16 May 2008 (PDT)

Update of Index?

Anyone else think the index should updated to include both the DHARMA and Freighter groups? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nowism (talkcontribs) 2008-05-16T15:33:20.

The index will be under review during hiatus  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  15:43, 16 May 2008 (PDT)
