--Plkrtn 19:30, 19 May 2006 (PDT)== Update == This page is in serious need of an update.--Peephole 16:35, 18 May 2006 (PDT)

It is being constantly changed and refined. Its never being left static. --Plkrtn 19:06, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
I believe what Peephole is referring to is a major overhaul/clean up. I agree; this page is majorly cluttered. However, it can look a lot better with some reformatting to make the boxes line up. One thing that would help would be to change the lists of stuff into links to the category pages. -- Ramirez Selvarn
I'm currently working on building Portals for the sections covered at the bottom. See Portal:Characters for a little preview of what I've done so far. Its by no means finished yet though. Moving them into their own section and just listing the portals toward the top of the page would clean this up considerably. --Plkrtn 19:30, 19 May 2006 (PDT)
Sweet. I should be available Monday and possibly tomorrow night (EST) to help-leave a comment on my talk page if you need me. -- Ramirez Selvarn

Adding content to The Lost Experience box[]

Newly Tidied Front Page[]

I've tidied up the front page some what, and reduced the garish colour scheme, but I still need help making the portals look a little bit more swanky. Any volunteers? --Plkrtn 04:47, 20 May 2006 (PDT)

Article of the Week[]

OK, I've kicked off article of the week with the article on Mr. Friendly (He was the first person to come into my head)... How future articles are decided (Executive decision or sysop vote) is up to others to discuss. I will maintain this, and this week in Lost if you wish, but if someone else would like to take Article of the Week and own it for themselves, I don't mind that either. --Plkrtn 07:28, 23 May 2006 (PDT)

I would prefer a page such as this. This is the same format I set up at HRWiki last year, and it's been working well thusfar. Thunderbird 20:44, 23 May 2006 (PDT)
The problem with that is that regular users can't edit it to make comments or vote. -- Ramirez Selvarn
I agree, it should be a user vote, not decided via dictatorship or aristocracy. This is a wiki, after all. --Ernest 11:50, 24 May 2006 (PDT)
Actually, if the SysOps as a whole decided it, it would be an oligarchy. How does Wikipedia decide what article is featured? -- Ramirez Selvarn 11:29, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

I've done my best to contact Admin. I found a phone number to call (that is not the fax number listed on the whois) and left a voicemail. Grammar and Tenses[]

There seems to be no real consensus of what tense to use describing events as the occur in the show. People generally seem to put the most recent episode in the present tense and all others in the past, which makes things confusing. Is there any strong objection to consistently putting all activities taken in the past tense? --Frieze 09:45, 30 May 2006 (PDT)

there was a conscious decision to NOT produce a style guide, but i think past tense would be best - Mikey - "so emo, it hurts

i would say past, as in kate did this jack did that, unless it applies to a trait, as above. it would get uber complicated to put it those in the past tense, and the characters still excist. Kates flashback revealed her to have been... nah! - Mikey - "so emo, it hurts

Page Navigator[]

Template:Nav

im really sorry but i dont like the {{nav}} box. its big and clunky, doesn't seem to serve any really useful purpose - Mikey - "so emo, it hurts

I agree, it has little purpose to have it on every page--CaptainInsano
I agree that it should not be used on every page, but a pared down version could be useful for certain pages, such as navigating through the episode guides, or characters. Each section in the {{nav}} template could be its own smaller navigation box.
Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 08:20, 31 May 2006 (PDT)
I agree as well. Make one nav template for "Main Characters" and one for "Supporting Characters" and one for "Companies", etc. --Elvis 09:05, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

I'm trying to come up with something simpler -- take a look at

http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Template:Nav-Main

http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Template:Nav-Minor

Template:Nav-Minor (changed from an include, because this template automatically includes this article in an unwanted category --Dagg 14:16, 13 December 2006 (PST))

It may need some wiki-Template formatting help, since these are just broken-down versions of the main giant Nav template...

I created a Locations Navigator. --Peephole 10:18, 18 June 2006 (PDT)

http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Template:Nav-Locations

But it would be easy to break down the components of the main template in to these mini-templates...

Jenolen 10:41, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

I think these things should have their own page, and a link to this page should be on the bottom.

Those navigators are getting ridiculous. I mean some articles now have the lost navigator AND the lost experience navigator. The general lost navigator should be divided up in categories. So we can put a locations navigator in a location article, a persons navigator in a person article, etc. And I think the lost experience navigator should be trimmed down to just the "This information was discovered throught the experience blablaba".--Peephole 17:43, 11 June 2006 (PDT)

You're preaching to the choir--CaptainInsano

Anyone else think it would be a good idea to split the characters into "characters stranded on the island", "characters of the lost experience", "DHARMA initiative characters" and "the others". Instead of the main/minor division we've got going at the moment? --Peephole 02:09, 14 June 2006 (PDT)

Format of Episode Titles[]

I'm curious about how episode titles appear in entries. I think they should be italicized (quotes can be so yucky.) Examples of how this would look include:

Man of Science, Man of Faith

Abandoned

What Kate Did

I think this looks classy, and helps readability for a sentence such as:

In the episode What Kate Did, Kate's flashback reveals her to be...

Is there any consensus on the episode title issue?? In some way, they should be set off from the regular text and links...

Jenolen 10:24, 31 May 2006 (PDT)

When referring to a specific title of an episode, book, song, or other such work, it is good practice to wrap the title in qotation marks. For example, "[[The Whole Truth]]" becomes "The Whole Truth". The TV Series Lost would be considered a "longer-work" and should be italicized.
Example: The Lost episode "Dave" showed Hurley in a mental health institute.
Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 20:56, 1 June 2006 (PDT)

That's true... but I'm not sure it looks good when Wikified. For example:

Episode 1x07, "The Moth", featured moths when Charlie was on screen.

Look at how the quotation marks aren't wikified. Ugly! Also, you get in to a lot of "where do I put the comma" issues... should the comma be wikified? Should it be inside the quotes? Outside? (I know the answers... I'm just saying most users aren't grammar absolutists...  ;) )

Also -- I think there's a case to be made that since every title in the LOSTpedia is assumed to refer to an episode of LOST, using italics for titles wouldn't be completely out of line. In our test sentence, this would look like:

Episode 1x07, The Moth, featured moths when Charlie was on screen.

Something to consider!  :)

Jenolen 10:38, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

I don't see how it looks ugly the grammatically correct way, so we'll just have to agree to disagree. If you really want to wikify they quotes with the article name, use [[The Moth|"The Moth"]] which looks like this: "The Moth"
Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 18:31, 2 June 2006 (PDT)

Why is there a spoiler on the main page? --Peephole 11:17, 5 June 2006 (PDT)

Seconded! While I'm aware that the entire site should be considered a spoiler, folks hit the front page of LostPedia not anticipating spoilers. A headline like "'Lost' will go on without murderous Michael", for international folks who haven't had the opportunity to see the final arc of the second season, is extraordinarily rude. XSG 12:14, 5 June 2006 (PDT)

Suggestion for a different pullquote: "When Michael departed the island, he left behind three of the show's most popular characters - Jack, Kate and Sawyer - who were being held captive by a mysterious group called "The Others" living on the other side of the island. It was not clear whether Michael and Walt were actually going to leave the island and go home (as The Others had instructed them to do) or if they'd go back to their camp to get help." -- LOSTonthisdarnisland 03:54, 7 June 2006 (PDT)

I am really proud of being part of LOSTpedia specially when I read the statistics for the wiki controlled by the Others...

There are 1,848 total pages in the database. This includes "talk" pages, pages about LOST, minimal "stub" pages, redirects, and others that probably don't qualify as content pages. Excluding those, there are 812 pages that are probably legitimate content pages.

690 files have been uploaded.

There have been a total of 5,691 page views, and 7,816 page edits since the wiki was setup. That comes to 4.23 average edits per page, and 0.73 views per edit.

Congradulations! I'm so glad and proud to be part of this UBER-geek lost community experience! We should eventually publish an un-official lostpedia-encyclopedia. Crazier things have happened! I've found this this we're not on it. But I've found this. Check who is listed under television!! If we compare to the Star Trek wiki 19,401 memory-alpha we're doing pretty DARN good! Remember they have a whole lot more to catalog. The series began in 1966! That's 40 years of Star Trek (happy birthday)! LOST is an infant in comparison. No wait I take that back. LOST is a zygote. Look how far we've come along in LESS THAN A YEAR!!! I am so proud to be part of one of the fastest growing, deatailed, over-all fun fan sites on the internet! Rumors and Spoilers, Theories and Speculation Section[]

May I make a suggestion. For those people who love spoilers and rumors, or spend countless of hours speculating and theorising what is going to happen next that we make a separate portals/templates/jump sections off of the main site. It will help keep our spoiler policy and our theory policy separate. People in these area wouldn't be afraid to "get it all out" before editing content. It could be a great resource in developing our coimmunity as well. It would be a great hook as well to bring viewers to our site. (the spoiler community is HUGE)--Jasoncarubia 15:36, 11 June 2006 (PDT)

Long Pages[]

taking a look at Special:Longpages tonight, i think something's not right there. should the longest page on this wiki, Bigspaceship1 (and another in the top ten, marvincandle.com) be devoted to something confirmed very, very fanon? additionally, as great as the book is, The Third Policeman's article needs serious pruning. it would be logical to have important articles (The Others, The Numbers, episode synopses) as the most detailed articles, surely. kaini. 18:55, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

Talk:Main Page vs Talk:LostPedia[]

there are things that end up posted on this page that should not be here, by definition of the notice at the top, but end up here because there's no place else to put them. imo, a Talk:LostPedia page should be set up and prominently linked to cover these items, or else the wording of the notice be changed (a rather clumsy solution). I'll be more than happy to work out the wording if i have some degree of concensus. kaini. 18:55, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

or, indeed, when i think about it; LostPedia:Talk would be a better name - it would fit with the format of LostPedia:Sandbox, and also is a start toward a Wikipedia:Village Pump style page - a hub where projects, policies, and the like which need attention can be discussed. kaini. 20:27, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

I've looked in the Wiki help section, but it only links to how to create a new general wiki, not one specifically within lostpedia. Oh, and is there another Help Desk or place to go for asking q's about lostpedia, without posting to this discussion page? Thanks.

--PandoraX 12:56, 18 June 2006 (PDT)

There are several ways. 1. Click on any red link (for example, Monkeys) and it will create the page for you. This is a good place to start because red links are usually pages someone felt were needed or wanted, but just didn't have time to create at that time. or, 2. In the search box, type the name of the article you want to create (for example, Monkeys), then click "Go". It will say "No page with this exact title exists, trying full text search". Click on the red link and edit. Good luck! --Elvis 07:26, 19 June 2006 (PDT)

Or just type in the name of the page in the adress. For example, if you want to create a page on michael yelling walt just go to www.lostpedia.com/wiki/WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALT and start editing away. --Peephole 11:13, 19 June 2006 (PDT)

No lost tonight?[]

According to ABC.com, there's no lost on tonight July 19. Instead they're airing something called "the one", and next week is slated for a double header of The Long Con, and One of Them. Could somebody change the front page to reflect this? It's a horrible tease! --Beardog4314 17:44, 19 July 2006 (PDT)

If that is true then it's different than what they have in their press releases. It's possible they changed after the releases came out.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 21:25, 19 July 2006 (PDT)
  • Can a sysop please fix that "this week on lost" section? The text is badly aligned. --Peephole 09:19, 25 July 2006 (PDT)

Looks like ABC is showing The One again this week (7/26), as well. Annoyingly, TV schedule websites such as tv.yahoo.com show the "old Wednesday schedule", which includes two episodes of Lost, up until Wednesday itself rolls around - at which point, the listing changes to something else (in this case, it's The One again). Sadly, the Lost schedule is ticking along, and episodes that are "missed" in this manner apparently aren't scheduled for rebroadcast, which kind of leaves an annoying "gap" in the story. (I haven't seen most of Season 2 yet, as I've been relying on the re-runs on ABC.) --Shodan1138 16:10, 26 July 2006 (PDT)

You have a warning to non USA viewers and say to be careful and yet you spoil something on the main page so how are you supposed to be careful? I should at least something UK viewers have seen or something from season 1. Any thoughts? - Dee4leeds 09:17 GMT

I hope you realise that the Box article is complete parody. Lostpedia is based on US airdates. There is no feasible way to mark something as a UK-spoiler. I wouldn't go to a Doctor Who wiki and expect to see info about only the episodes that have aired on the US SciFi channel.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 08:00, 2 August 2006 (PDT)
You've missed my point, the object its self should be non spoiler not the info like if the article was about Locke. The title and pictured show Locke but the text could spoil. Unlike the pearl which has now spoilt it for me. All I was trying to do was see the latest glyphs on the Lost expeience. Dee4leeds 17:50 GMT
i'm not sure i understand you... Box is article of the week; i don't see any spoilers in the lead-in text; can you elaborate? --kaini. 10:07, 2 August 2006 (PDT)
When the original post was created the article of the week was The Pearl 18:10 GMT
aaah, now i get you; i can't think of a solution off the top of my head, though --kaini. 10:12, 2 August 2006 (PDT)
OK, you're starting to make sense. Either way though, the site and spoiler tags are based on US airings. Since the pearl was revealed in a season 2 episode it's not really a spoiler. I see your problem here and it's tough to keep current on the lost experience when the UK is not caught up to US airings. You might want to just bookmark the portal pages for the lost experience, or the nav template.    Jabberwock    talk    contribs    email   - 10:19, 2 August 2006 (PDT)
Thanks for the link I'll use that from now on or at least till season 2 ends. Dee4leeds 15:25 GMT

Chainki + Lost[]

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I am the webmaster of the wiki http://chainki.org and would like if possible for you to add a link somewhere within LostPedia to the Lost pages on Chainki. If I could find a suitable place, I would add a link directly here myself, but it's better if one of you folk do it. And, since Chainki it is a wiki, to directly verify, update, change, add, reorganise and generally make this the best place for Lost links on the web - of course LostPedia will remain the best place for Lost encyclopedic content ;-). You're now on List of websites under the category "information." I would put you under Wiki but its not primarily a Lost wiki so I think info is the most appropriate --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:36, 5 August 2006 (PDT)

Thanks Nickb123! Hugh 11:36, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
