Rename

Guys, Lost: The Complete Second Season (DVD) doesn't have the subtitle ("The Extended Experience") in the article name. Either this should be renamed to fit the second season, or vice-versa. ShadowUltra 13:23, 1 June 2007 (PDT)

  • Agree to the rename on the page of the article. BETTYFIZZW (Talk) 15:03, 1 June 2007 (PDT)
  • Yes I Agree, personally I'd like to see the long title for both, but the shorts fine for consistency--Kivipat

  • Agree - its to long --Nintyplayer 05:06, 3 June 2007 (PDT)
  • Kind of Disagree - Personally, I think the Season 2 DVD should have "The Extended Experience" in the title. But it doesn't really matter. --James W. 18:17, 4 June 2007 (PDT)

Decision: Article renamed to Lost: The Complete Third Season (DVD) 6 June 2007

Rename Part 2

Now it is confirmed that the set is to be released in two formats - DVD & Blu-ray Disc - it may be time to change the title to reflect this. I like Lost: The Complete Third Season (DVD/Blu-ray Disc). However there is also the snappy Lost: The Complete Third Season (DVD/BD)....What do you all think?--Kivipat00:45, 30 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Agree to rename it to either name that mentions Blu-ray Disc.(Although I prefer the "DVD/BD" version, since it is shorter and is more consistent.) Nick2010 23:16, 30 August 2007 (PDT) Also, I think that a separate article should not be made, as it would be almost the same, with the exception of maybe adding a technical specification section to explain codecs, bit rates, etc. Nick2010 14:44, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Undecided - It might be possible that content between the DVD version and the Blu-ray version differ and might need separate articles in the future.-- Dan  talk  contribs  email  06:06, 31 August 2007 (PDT)

Disagree- Make new article for Blu-Ray--Connor401 08:02, 3 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Disagree - Keep as it is now, and when we get more information on the DVD/BD differences, then make seperate pages if applicable, if not there is no problem keeping on one page for now, as is named now.--Lewis-Talk-Contribs 08:08, 3 September 2007 (PDT)

Agree - For now anyway, I think the "DVD/BD" is needed and it should stay like that unless we learn about differences between the 2 box sets. random2502 11:01, 3 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Disagree - Totally unneeded at the moment. By far and away the largest release is the DVD release, the Blu-Ray release is just a high def subset for a substanially smaller market. Until we know the exact content of the Blu-Ray disc, we can then look at either a seperate article or a subsection for the "Blu-Ray/High Definition" release. There is no point renaming or splitting them until we know the ins and outs of the release. As far as I'm aware BR releases currently uses the MPEG2 codec, so its not even like we need an article to display the difference in the codecs at the moment. To be honest, if I were to rename, I'd knock the (DVD) part off of each of the articles, as the "The Complete..." titles only apply to the DVDs and Blu-Ray release. Anyway, come the eventual time when HD-DVD wins, would we really have three articles to explain what is essentially one box set?  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  15:20, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
    • I agree about waiting until more details about the BD set are released before changing the name, but there could be differences in the codec. MPEG-2 was used for encoding the video in the older BDs (from the format's launch) but is now used less often. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, a Disney/Buena Vista release on BD, was encoded in MPEG-4/AVC, which is much more efficient and can provide better quality. (That movie is considered to be among the highest quality home video releases available in terms of video.) In addition, the audio codec is still unknown. It could be LPCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, etc. (Probably in a number of channels between 5.1 and 7.1) The "format war" is far from over, so it will be a long time before anyone can really guess at what the result will be. Nick2010 21:29, 4 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Agree - This is the only release that comes in 2 formats so we should be prepared. Excuse me plkrtn? While you are intitled to your opinion, I doubt HD-DVD will win the format war. If you haven't heard, Blockbuster has stopped renting out HD-DVD's in 70% of their stores, but they haven't stopped renting out Blu-Ray discs. I do agree that we shouldn't have seperate articles when it is still the same boxset.--Countdown 16:55, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Strong disagree: HD-DVD and Blu-ray are still DVD. There is no need for the ugly looking and unnecessary addition. --SilvaStorm
    • HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc are not the same as DVD, they are entirely different formats. Try reading the explanations on the official format websites, (bluraydisc.com for BD) or visiting the HD DVD and BD section of AVS Forum. Nick2010 18:13, 8 September 2007 (PDT)
      • My point is that the term DVD can still be used to refer to both of them. Hence, HD-DVD and Blu-ray disc (a format of DVD (Digital Versatile Disc)). --SilvaStorm
        • I understand what you mean, but the formats still are not DVDs. You wouldn't refer to a DVD as a CD or a Laserdisc just because both are a disc. Nick2010 13:11, 9 September 2007 (PDT)
          • Exactly. Blu-Ray never mentions DVD in it's title, just because it's a disc, doesn't make it a DVD. You wouldn't ignore the DVD version of a movie just because the VHS came first because they're basically the same thing. No, the DVD is a serious upgrade and quite a difference from VHS. Similar to how Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is to DVD. Obviously, if you think those formats are the same as DVD, you clearly don't have that set-up at home and are not at all familiar with them. If you were, you'd realize the difference is significant enough to acknowledge a difference in formats. Voodoo 23:27, 15 October 2007 (PDT)
            • The word DVD can refer to DVD , HD DVD and Blue Ray. Just because Blue Ray only works on Blue Ray Players doesn't mean it's not the same as a DVD. I mean both of the disc look the same the only difference is how it looks on your tv. --4 8 15 16 23 42|talkPJ05 13:08, 5 November 2007 (PDT)
  • Disagree - The product is the same (video release of a season of Lost), although the platforms are different. Neither do we have different articles for video releases in different region codings, or different countries with their own language packaging. Neither do we have different articles for different media releases of Soundtrack (uncompressed CD, compressed online download, or heck vinyl analog, etc.), or the soundtrack releases in various countries (sometimes with minor variations in track listings). The arguments for the technical formatting of the different high def discs are irrelevant to the essential identity of the product, and this discussion. If there are variations in content, these will be minor in relation to the primary content of the episodes themselves; any significant or minor variations may be listed easily in subheads of the article. Also note that the release date of the various S3 disk products is essentially the same; it's not like a commemorative re-release many years later, it's therefore essentially intended to be a parallel product. Finally, the main point of Lostpedia is to provide information to readers. As far as this informative mission, keeping all season 3 video releases together does the job best. In other words, there is not yet any argument above for how renaming or splitting the article will actually help people trying to find information on this topic in Lostpedia, compared to a single article with subheads. It seems reasonable that a user looking for information on high definition releases would not be misled by the title "Lost: The Complete Third Season (DVD)." If, however, an argument is provided to change my mind on this point, we should simply drop the "(DVD)" from the name, but at this point I am not convinced it is misleading to the average user of Lostpedia. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  00:36, 22 September 2007 (PDT)
    • You have a valid argument, however, in that case DVD should be removed from the title because just because DVD came first doesn't mean it gets to be in the title and Blu-Ray doesn't. If, like you say, someone checks in the DVD article for Blu-Ray, you may as well just call the article the "Complete Third Season" without any formats. Voodoo 23:27, 15 October 2007 (PDT)
  • Disagree - That is a seriously stupid name. DVD is fine. If anything Lost:_The_Complete_Third_Season trumps this and the current. --Sloths 20:59, 29 September 2007 (PDT)
    • Okay...so because Blu-Ray sounds stupid to you, we should just pretend like it doesn't exist? Voodoo 23:27, 15 October 2007 (PDT)
      • "Blue ray" doesn't sound stupid to me, but having this huge extended descriptive title does. It's like naming episodes "What Kate Did (HDTV/SDTV)" --Sloths 09:05, 8 November 2007 (PST)
  • As a brief summary thus far there are two options. 1) Don't rename. 2) Rename and drop the parenthetical media tag so that it no longer makes specific mention of media formats at all: [[Lost: The Complete Third Season]] Are there any particular arguments for either of these two options? -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  21:25, 29 September 2007 (PDT)
    • I have three better ideas: We can run, we can hide, or we can DIE. -Sloths 15:09, 4 October 2007 (PDT)
  • Agree - The show is being released on this format as well and the article should reflect that. You simply can't ignore it because it has a smaller market or because DVD is a more common term. There differences are not large enough to warrant an entirely new page dedicated to the Blu-Ray disc, merely a section describing video differences etc. Just because most people are going to buy S3 on DVD doesn't mean that the Blu-Ray version doesn't exist. As a Lost Encyclopedia, Blu-Ray needs to be included, otherwise it looks sloppy and amateur. Voodoo 23:19, 15 October 2007 (PDT)
  • Agree - If season 3 is coming out on both, then we should include both in the title. --James W. 20:11, 29 October 2007 (PDT)
  • In general, following the arguments above, the choice is probably between the current "Lost: The Complete Third Season (DVD)", or dropping the format altogether: "Lost: The Complete Third Season". I would be happy either way, since 1) "DVD" is not misleading, 2) dropping the format is not misleading either, and 3) most articles do not have the format in the title (e.g Bad Twin (book), Solitary (TV episode), etc.). I suspect "DVD" in the name is a historical holdover from when there was only one DVD, and disambiguation between seasons was not an issue. Regarding the other alternatives mentioned above: Creating new articles (one for DVD, another for HDTV, another for BR) is too split-biased, and adding all the formats into the title seems to me like content that belongs in the article is leaking into the title instead. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  00:53, 9 November 2007 (PST)
    • You make a good point, maybe it would be best to just drop the format from the name and make it "Lost: The Complete Third Season". Nick2010 16:22, 11 November 2007 (PST)
  • Give the Blu-Ray release its own page. They are two different releases.--Mc peko 21:19, 11 December 2007 (PST)
  • It's not just format. The content, distribution of the episodes on discs and packaging is different.Dharmatel4 23:25, 11 December 2007 (PST)
  • Indeed. There are enough different DVD versions to document as it is. So let's make a Blu-ray page right away. It will almost certainly have to happen soon anyhow, so why lag?--Mc peko 08:13, 12 December 2007 (PST)

Accuracy

This has been speculated on various websites, but is that cover art the real deal? The palm leaves look too simple and it is unlikely that the hydra symbol would be on the side, it didn't play that big a part in the season. Of course I'm surprised everyone has just accepted the 'Jacob loves you' on the side as authentic, but remember that anyone can upload to amazon and this could well be a fan-made hoax.

  • It looks like a fanart to me. And I really hope it is because the season 1 and 2 boxes look much better! -- EvelynPace 10:29, 21 June 2007 (PDT)
  • I can understand the Hydra logo being there, (that's the Others's hidey-hole for most of the season, and the whole season was pretty much about the Others,) although I am scratching my head at the "Jacob loves you" bit. And I'm not a fan of the little square mugshots. BUT, this was attached to the press release, so until TPTB tell me otherwise, I'm going to be absolutely certain it's authentic. (Isolation815 18:11, 22 June 2007 (PDT))
  • I think it looks awesome. The green goes well with the blue/silver and rust colours of the past seasons DVDs. The Jacob loves you is creepy and sort of shows the atmosphere of the season, also someone considering watching it who hasn't seen it may be intrigued by this mysterious message, I think it's a neat little add-on. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the mugshot images of the cast, but I guess that was the promo sheets they were using this season. Would have really liked to see a contrast of The Others and The Losties on the front.

On a totally unrelated note, I think it would be awesome if the disks were pictures of different Others, similar to how Season 1 discs were pictures of survivors.

  • In Brazil, the cover art is exactly as shown on every other web page for the set, only difference is it says "Jacob ama você" instead of "Jacob loves you"[1]. The art on each disc is a greenish picture of two characters; disc 7 features Ben and Juliet. (bloodcandy 12:03, 16 October 2007 (PDT))

So I guess since it has already been released in Europe, then that is not "fanart" and is in fact the real deal?--Countdown 05:06, 3 December 2007 (PST)

Australia Release Date

From what i'm hearing in the past few days or so, here in australia they've confirmed that the release date for the Season 3 Dvd Box set will be " October 31, 2007 ". I don't know if this is truley confirmed or not though, does anyone know on the release dates exactly for all the regions?--Jabadibah 05:39, 10 August 2007 (PDT)

  • Yep www.ezydvd.com.au is a accurate site when it comes to release dates. Its always been correct. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Buffyfan123 (talkcontribs) .
  • I have had a video store confirm a release date of Monday, October 22 - Inspirator 15:26, 17 August 2007 (PDT)
  • Ezydvd.com has always been acurrate in the past. So October 17th is officially the date Lost comes out in Australia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Buffyfan123 (talkcontribs) .
And the discussion abve, which gives THREE release dates is the exact reason why the date for Lost Region 4's release was removed from the page. I've researched this myself and come up with many dates as to when this is supposed to ship in Australia. It is not confirmed yet. As soon as it is by all means add it, and please let me know so it too can get a countdown on the Main Page.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  01:28, 21 August 2007 (PDT)
Another possibility, The Lost Ninja believes it will be out December 11th (same as US). [2] --Blueeagleislander 01:38, 21 August 2007 (PDT)
  • Well alot of sites now list October 17th, if we see Lost in catalogues around that time, its out on that date for sure.
  • Yeah Most all are saying October 17th. I think it's safe to assume October 17th is the official date since the sites and stores releasing it on this date have been very reliable in the past.--Jabadibah 23:37, 21 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Ok i've now got three sources that confirm that the release date of the DVD is "October 17". Here are my sources:
 *EZY-DVD- http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/794379
 *JB HI-FI- http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvds/id/1082022
 *DVDLAND- http://www.dvdland.com.au/category148_1.htm#262

That should hopefully be enough confirmation.--Jabadibah 20:52, 28 September 2007 (PDT)

  • Yep its 100% coming out next week, also saw an ad in a catalogue for the dvd. So the dates are 100% accurate.
    • I enquire at my local ezydvd and they confirmed the 17th. --Blueeagleislander 01:41, 9 October 2007 (PDT)

Region 2 release date

Amazon.co.uk has it down as Oct 22. This isn't consistent with the day on the main page. [3] --The Smiley-Faced Balloon 10:53, 11 August 2007 (PDT)

I've heard it has been officially confirmed by Buena Vista, that the region 2 DVD will be released on Oct 22nd[4]. Although there is no link to any statement of some kind by Buena Vista.--Baker1000 04:12, 9 September 2007 (PDT)

Audio Commentary..

Does this mean.. We will see Darlton, Kiele talking about the episode and stuff? --Apollo Candy 23:30, 13 August 2007 (PDT)

Yeah we will. Not just Darlton of coarse, we'll obviously also be hearing some commentaries with Jack Bender, Bryan Burk and possibly J.J. in the commentary for "A Tale of Two Cities"--Jabadibah 02:05, 15 August 2007 (PDT)

"Blu-ray Disc" is the official term

Remember that "Blu-ray Disc", or the abbrieviation "BD", is the correct term for the format, not "Blu-ray". Nick2010 21:37, 22 August 2007 (PDT)

THANKS FOR THE INFO -Sloths 21:02, 29 September 2007 (PDT)

Juliet?

Is there any reason that Juliet has been edited off the cover of the Blu-Ray edition? The Blu-Ray and DVD are practically the same, except Juliet (who should be below Charlie) has gone. >: 4 8 15 16 23 42 07:20, 23 August 2007 (PDT)

Blu Ray Question!

Hey, is the UK going to get the Blu Ray release? I went searching for it today but couldnt find it, only found the original. If anyone knows ANYTHING please post! --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 14:36, 22 October 2007 (PDT)

oh well got the original instead, find it quite annoying that they couldnt line up the "LOST"'s on the side of the box set dvds!! But thats life. Lost day today!!!! :D --Lewis-Talk-Contribs 03:48, 23 October 2007 (PDT)

Early Aus date

I heard on the radio today that the reason the season 3 DVD was released early in Australia was because of a promotion for TV-on-DVD shows. Apparently a whole bunch of TV show box sets were released on the same day nationwide, I'll see if I can find an online source. --Blueeagleislander 02:55, 23 October 2007 (PDT)

Why Was the Finale Split into Two Episodes?

Why did they split the double-length episode, "Through the Looking Glass," into two separate episodes for the DVD? They didn't do this with either the season one or season two finales. So now we have two sets of "Previously on LOST...", two sets of opening credits and two sets of closing credits. Wha' happen'?

  • Here in Latin America since season 1 the Finales are always splitted in 2 parts, that's why whe have Exodus: Part 3 jrcaporal
