The Merging[]

  • Merge: Just put the info that isn't on Lost: The Complete Second Season (DVD) on it.We don't need a page for each kind of DVD that is coming out--CaptainInsano
  • Merge: I agree. What we just have to do is copy&paste this whole article under the section See also on "Lost: The Complete Second Season (DVD)" and rename it "Season 2 Part 1 (region 2)" instead. -- SGC.Alex 00:24, 24 July 2006 (PDT)
  • Merge: --Phmall 21:20, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
  • merge --       talk contribs                   08:03, 10 August 2006 (PDT)
  • Merge - Dee4leeds 04:05, 28 August 2006 (PDT)

Merger discussion is taking place on the Season 2 main page, and the general consensus is against a merge, so I'm removing the request to merge from the main page --plkrtn 03:05, 14 September 2006 (PDT)

  • I dont see the point in keeping this page, I mean its for the UK set, and if there isn't a page for part 2 or other seasons. Its just silly to just keep this one.
  • This definetely needs Merged as this is the only part X DVD with it's own page when there's been 4. random2502 11:28, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
  • Yes, definitely merge (what is actually holding this up?; I don't think anyone is in opposition to it) Kidburla 10:30, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

Price[]

Say what? £34.99 for the first half of the season, while the DVD Lost: The Complete Second Season costs aprox £32.40 ? --Jambalaya 07:20, 22 June 2006 (PDT)

That's how Amazon lists the RRP. Jamesface 07:26, 22 June 2006 (PDT)

Idea for page remake[]

This page could be changed into a generic Region 2 DVDs page. It would be quite worthy, due to the whole 'Part 1' & 'Part 2' scam - I mean unique release of the UK. Season 2, Part 2 is also out tomorrow (2nd October) so the article could have all of Season 1 & 2. If anyone opposes this, say, and I won't go ahead and do it. Is part two going to be made? --   Dee4leeds  talk  contribs  all  03:37, 22 October 2006 (PDT)
Yes, part two has been made, see my other post below. Kidburla 10:36, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

What about part 2?[]

Are we ever going to make part 2 of this boxset? --   Dee4leeds  talk  contribs  all  04:54, 24 November 2006 (PST)

Yes, part 2 has been made, it was released in October 2006 ([1]). Also, Season 1 was split into 2 parts ([2] and [3]). Although it is a bit stupid, because Amazon are now selling the complete Season 1 for a cheaper price than either of the individual parts. Kidburla 10:35, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

wrong site[]

shouldn't this page be on the uk version of the site?--Connor401 20:52, 2 August 2007 (PDT)

Rename, expansion and question[]

I reworked this page to be not only about the UK release, but about the general Region 2 release that has the first twelve episodes on a "season 2 part 2" boxset. I suggest renaming this article into "Lost: Season 2 Part 1 (Region 2)", as "Series 2" is UK-specific and makes it seem as if the UK were the only relevant market in Europe.

I also added some sections about individual domestic releases, and I invite native speakers to help with filling in the gaps.

Question: Should we better use official promotional photos of the box covers, or take our own photos/scans?--Nevermore 06:49, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

UK may not be the only relevant market in Europe, but all the other countries refer to seasons as "series". I think it's "season" that is the Americanism. Robert K S (talk) 09:33, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
Er, no. Let's check the evidence:
  • French: "Saison". Same etymological roots and meaning as "season" (as in, "seasons of the year").
  • Dutch: "Seizoen". Again, same roots and meaning.
  • Even though the Swedish Lost boxes appear to use the American box covers, the Swedish Prison Break DVD box sets use the term "Säsong".
  • The Spanish box sets use the term "Temporada", which, despite having different etymological roots, also means "season" as in "seasons of a year".
  • The Hungarian box sets use the term "Évad", which also means "season".
  • The German term is "Staffel", which has an entirely different meaning altogether (originally the German name for the baton in a relay race).
  • The official Italian term is "Serie"; however, while googling for information on the Italian box sets, I found just as many pages that used the term "stagione", which is the Italian term for "season" (as "Pizza Quattro Stagione" can attest).
So that only leaves the official Italian term and the official UK term versus at least fivelanguages that use their term for "season", and an entirely different German term. And as far as I know, all those languages only use the term "series" (or their version of it) when referring to the show as a whole - German for sure. If anything, that's a giant mess.--Nevermore 10:41, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
More languages:
  • Japanese uses "シーズン" (literally "Shiizun"; actually just the English word "season" spelled in Katakana) when referring to the Lost seasons.
  • Greek is another oddball here like German. The Greek term used on the Lost DVD boxsets is "κύκλοι" ("Kuklos"), which means "circle" or "ring".
Still no more examples for "Series", though.--Nevermore 16:26, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
Do we have any example of this particular box set titled as Lost : Season Two Part One anywhere. As far as I am aware this box set was only released in the UK because of the delayed schedules we had for Season 1 and 2.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  16:56, 9 March 2008 (PDT)
I just found one. South Africa. LINK And it's Region 2 too.--Nevermore 01:26, 10 March 2008 (PDT)
It is on a South African site, and it does say "Season Two Part One" on it, but it is obviously a computer created CGI image of the box, not a photo of the box itself, and there are no markings on it (certificates etc) to suggest that it is the South African version of the set. Its not conclusive enough.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  02:35, 10 March 2008 (PDT)
Nevermore, I suppose I stand corrected. My (apparently mistaken) impression comes from speaking with TV fans in France and Germany, who always referred to seasons as "series". Robert K S (talk) 08:01, 10 March 2008 (PDT)
This is odd. I live in Germany, and no-one here would consider a season a "series". For us, a "series" is the sum of all seasons, from the pilot to the very last episode. Everyone calls a season "Staffel" (as I said above, "baton" as in "relay race").--Nevermore 09:35, 10 March 2008 (PDT)
Okay, I still didn't hear back from my contacts in South Africa (I was promised photos of the box from two different people before the weekend), but I found stock photos for the South African DVD boxes of Season 2 Part 2 and Season 1 Part 1, thus at least suggesting a naming convention for South Africa. Will let you know as soon as I get photos of the real thing, though.--Nevermore 16:44, 11 March 2008 (PDT)
Aaaaaaand finally, here we are, courtesy of freckles_shephard from The Fuselage. This is a scan of the cover of the season 2, Part 1 DVD boxset purchased in South Africa. Now can we have the article renamed please?--Nevermore 02:37, 30 March 2008 (PDT)

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I'm confused on the purpose of this page... here in the UK, both Seasons 1 and 2 were released in two parts, as well as complete, whole-season boxsets. So why has Season 2, Part 1, been given it's own article, but not the others? What makes this particular collection so unique and special...? I don't believe this page is needed at all, to be honest: on the Season 1 and Season 2 DVD pages, there can just be notes saying "In some countries outside of the US, this boxset was released in two parts. Part 1 featured [episodes] and [bonus features], while Part 2 included [episodes] and [bonus features]", or something similar... As a fan who has Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD in the two parter boxsets, I'm just confused as to why this particular one is worthy of an article... --Bohrok Awakener 16:05, 16 March 2008 (PDT)

"So why has Season 2, Part 1, been given it's own article, but not the others?" Because I wanted this article renamed before I start new articles for the other boxsets, that's why.--Nevermore 02:37, 30 March 2008 (PDT)
This better?--Nevermore 15:23, 30 March 2008 (PDT)
