Rename

No other possession article has the character's first and last name. Suggest renaming to Richard's objects (or Alpert's objects) to be easier to type and more in line with other article titles. ShadowUltra 14:29, 9 May 2008 (PDT)

  • Don't rename: The article "Richard" is a disambiguation page. By the logic of there being enough Richards in the show to justify that, this page's title should be clear which Richard it refers to.--TechNic|talk|conts 18:02, 9 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Don't rename, as per above Malachi 04:11, 10 May 2008 (PDT)
As I was organizing/building the theories page for this page, I noticed that everyone is referring to "Richard's objects" as "the items". I'm thinking that people will not find this page easily under this title; I propose that we change the name to "Richard Alpert's items" and create a listing for "the items" that redirects to this page. vial color

The article says gray ash but the particular screencap is kind of unsaturated. Watching the show I get more of a sense of a beige or tan color, and granular, like sand or seeds. --Jackdavinci 14:55, 9 May 2008 (PDT).

      • yeah, in HD it looks like pretty good sized beigey granules. COULD it be the same stuff that circled Jacob's cabin that John picked up and sifted through? hmmm....--Frenkmelk 23:50, 9 May 2008 (PDT)

Ben's recruitement

As Ben met Richard as a small boy, he could have been possibly recruited using the same test? And (if true) did it happen before or after johns test? --Stigi 06:34, 10 May 2008 (PDT)

Objects? Rename

"Items" would be a much better word. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Anfield Fox (talkcontribs) 2008-05-11T02:02:15.

1961?

Where did we get that year from? If it's just based on Locke's age, anyone who isn't born on New Year's Day will be the same age during parts of two different calendar years. --Jackdavinci 06:11, 11 May 2008 (PDT)

multiple items selected

It seems to me that Locke selected the vial, the compass AND the knife. He brought them away from the careful layout that Richard presented and put them close to him. Richard's response to each item movement indicates approval of each UNTIL he selects the knife as well. Besides, didn't Richard's phrasing seem to indicate he could select more than one item? Muninn99

I'm also of the understanding that Locke selected all 3 items. If he were rejecting the first 2 items, he would have put them back down in their places in Richard's configuration, rather than putting them down in front of himself. I'd like to see the wording in the article changed to (at least) reflect this ambiguity.--EmmaAmethyst 00:38, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Compass

  • Considering it's prominence in these Season 5 episodes, I think the compass deserves its own page.--Overworkedirish 02:09, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
    • Is there any doubt that the compass is one of the items Locke should have chosen?--Baker1000 20:49, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
      • Compass has had it's own page since season one. It's likely the compass was one of the correct items but not confirmed. --Jackdavinci 02:39, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Discussion

To change article to state that Locke "chose" all 3 items, not just "examined" them.

  • Yes This article states that Locke only "examined" the vial of sand and the compass, but ultimately only picked the knife. I believe this is incorrect. Richard asks him, in reference to the items, which one's are his? (one's = plural) He picks all 3 of the items, but the problem for Richard came when picked the knife. The reason he got upset is irrelevant to this topic. Either way he picked all 3. Please discuss, so we can get this changed if there is an agreement. - NEVERGIVEUP  Contribs  Talk  14:16, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I agree. I always looked at it as Locke choosing all 3 of those items. -- Managerpants  Contribs  Talk  10:47, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
I agree as well. He clearly pulls the sand and the compass over to him, without Richard saying to choose between them, or even reacting until he chooses the knife.  Roobydo  talk  contribs  18:23, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
