Deuterocanon[]

Fascinating read on the deuterocanon tag! After reading the definition, I thought the ABC diary fits perfectly (or at least most of it does), as it may have originally been intended to fit in with the writer's vision, but later is repeatedly contradicted by the canon of the show (see "Is the diary canon section). Let me know if you disagree. --PandoraX 23:14, 26 July 2006 (PDT)

Writer[]

The discussion is open as to who that writer is!

I think if someone can pull up that episode where the Tailies came to the group, one could actually try to find out more. He/She says that he/she was talking to a woman at that time and asking what's going on and she replied that there are more survivors. Maybe that can be seen somewhere.

Also, Has anyone checked if new people came to the group unnoticed? I (like most people) did not pay much attention to the survivors that are not playing a major role. It should have happened after Janelle lost the diary on day 43.

Interestingly the writer is not a so-called Other and was not on that plane. Big mystery! --aurora glacialis 16:37, 7 March 2006 (PST)

Someone mentioned Desmond after the use of the word 'Brother' in the HG entry. Personally I don't think the whole diary thing needs to really make sense as it's not really part of the actual show, I doubt it will ever even be mentioned on the show, or the person writing in it for that matter. --skks 02:07, 8 March 2006 (PST)

It can't be Desmond since he for sure would have known about the hatch ;-). I am not sure if it makes sense, but it is on the official website of the show. Unless it is another joke like the Shark Logo, it could be authentic. If it ever really makes an appearance in the show is doubtful, but the character writing it may be part of the show. I mean - in the podcasts there was said, that there is not a tight group called "the others" - it is only a perception of whoever is part of one or another group. And I still think, that the survivors and the scientists around Zeke and Ethan are not the only people around. But maybe that diary is just a hint towards things not beeing as they are thought to be... --aurora glacialis 02:35, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Yeah, Desmond theory didn't seem right for me either on a basis of just one word, with the same basis, I don't think the diary is a joke either, I meant that it's more of a 'bonus material' than part of the actual 'mystery', something to give that little bit of an insight and to raise more questions than to answer. --skks 09:07, 8 March 2006 (PST)

...suddenly the writer is a brother or a sister of Henry Gale. Automaticly jumping to the conclusion that the 'brother' in question is Henry Gale is a bit quick. Also, by calling someone your brother doesn't necessarily imply they are in any relation to you. --skks 09:47, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Well - I think you're right about brother not beeing definitely a relation. But it definitely says that the "brother" is held captive in the hatch as a suspected "other", so there is only one person that fits that description, right? --aurora glacialis 10:31, 8 March 2006 (PST)

Yeah there was a mixup in my various previews and edits of that comment, what I was going for earlier was that there are no dates or locations on the diary entries and it could be a different situation than with HG eg. different hatch, different suspected other, but it was a little too weak even for me. Somehow part of that theory was left in the phrasing, what i meant to say in the end was just the thing about the word 'brother'. --skks 15:23, 8 March 2006 (PST)

i'd very much agree with the 'bonus material' theory. while both abc and fans have created a very rich online world indeed to be explored as an extra ;) it's pretty implausible that abc would make checking the official website a prerequisite to understanding anything essential to plot.

...or i dunno, maybe it's something introduced in series 7 or something O_o so in conclusion er --Kaini

The dairy is updated! [1] is the one who refers the "My brother" Kate? I'm not sure of it, but then how would she know about his existence on the island, very complicated.. --TuX 9:41, 31 March 2006 (CEST)

Another update [2] Eko is building a Church, but im still wondering who can be the writer of the diary. probably someone not seen in the show --TuX 11:35, 7 April 2006 (CEST)

I think it could be Libby, fake-Gale looks a bit like her --TuX 14:00, 31 March 2006 (CEST)

A lot of people are forgetting the fact that NO ONE except for Locke, Jack, Ana Lucia, Mr. Eko, Charlie, Danielle, and Sayid have seen the fake Henry Gale. The person writing the diary could in fact believe it to be the REAL Henry Gale, from Montana. But I have thought along the same lines as TuX as well, that Libby may be related to fake HG. But who knows. --MisterHighway 4/7/06 10:04am EST

I added to the theory topic about the whispers that say "The brothers help us". This writer and Gale may be the brothers indicated and may possibly be seperate from the "others". --Stetsonblade 4/30/06 10:13 pm CST

is there a new writer? looks like a survivor of another crash! http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/diary.html --TuX 23:57, 14 May 2006 (PDT)

Could the second writer be the same unidentified person who wrote: "I would like to inform my financial institutions that I will be late making my September mortgage payment as I am STRANDED ON A FRIGGIN' ISLAND IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! Please have the Government send a search team immediately. OR don't. Shouldn't all the taxes I pay cover an expense like that?" on the Oceanic website? --Tebor 4:00, 15 May 2006 (CST)

The writer identifies himself as Chris Dobson. The "brother" referred to was "Steve Michael Dobson" and he was killed during the crash. He was seated right next to Chris and offered to take his seat, sealing his own fate. Seems that for most of the journal entries Chris had a sort of amnesia about Steve's death. He apparently heard accounts of Faux Henry being held down in the hatch and assumed it to have been his brother before remembering the events of the crash. Apologies if this is old news or something, but I didn't see it referenced anywhere on the wiki. Mbrunswick 01:00, 25 May 2006 (PDT)

Links to probably all the diary pages (as of 10/Mar/06)[]

Here are all the links I found out by scanning some of the possible pages. Not much more here that we didn't find yet, except a second and third copy of the first part of the diary written by Janelle. Didn't see any differences to the first version yet, but I have not looked into it much. The second part also has some duplicates, some of them are indeed different (like pages beeing only half filled and later completed.

I think, the diary is a bonus and not required for the Show, but it may still hold clues for the interested viewers.

First part of the diary (original):

None of these links work anymore. I can't find the diary entries anywhere on the official site. I think they're permanently down. --Ghtx 10:46, 24 October 2006 (PDT)

The diary has been removed from their website. It's mentioned in the article. -- Cheers 14:05, 3 November 2006 (PST)

Neil Frogurt?[]

Neil Frogurt was mentioned in the Lost podcast this week as one of the background people whom we'll get to know in the coming weeks. Since we can single out pretty much everyone we've met so far... seems a logical guess to me!

abc vs lost[]

  • Who was in charge of creating the content in the diary? Was it ABC, or was it Lost's creative authorities? If ABC, this should be mentioned exlicitly in the article, and noted as a primary reason this content is not part of Canon. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 22:51, 12 December 2006 (PST)
