Actor[]

This individual is local Honolulu, Hawaii punk drummer "Derek 86". He drums for bands THE 86 LIST, DOLLS TIL DAYLIGHT, and S-1 ATOMIC, among others. All these bands are found on myspace.com --JD Commando 20:32, 12 November 2007 (PST)JD Commando

Alright, so apparently it's Derek Hoeft aka "Derek 86". [1] [2] -- Graft   talk   contributions  22:04, 12 November 2007 (PST)

Rename nomination[]

I didn't nominate this, but I give it a weak agree IMO. --Nickb123 (Talk) 17:07, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Reluctantly agree -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  14:16, 22 June 2008 (PDT)

Delete nomination[]

Keep. I'm a little befuddled by this recent deletionist trend. It reminds me of a line from The Rocketeer. During a car chase/gun battle, one FBI agent, frustrated that his partner hasn't yet disabled the enemy vehicle, yells at him, "Trying to save on ammo?" Our job is to create as complete an encyclopedia of this show as we can. If that means a few peewee-sized pages, it's not a big deal. What are we trying to do, save on kilobytes? I'll also note that this page demonstrably adds content--it gives the name of the actor who played this role. Robert K S (talk) 22:16, 3 July 2008 (PDT)

Delete content which could be placed in the Drive Shaft article, rather than on its own.  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email  03:53, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

I nominated it, but on second thought I feel that Robert K S is right. Keep -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  13:40, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

plkrtn has re-added the delete nomination tag with the rationale: "Information could be contained on the Drive Shaft article". The issue is not, as I see it, whether the information could be contained on that article, but whether it best belongs on that article. (The key unique information in this article is (1) that the same actor played the role in both his appearances, (2) that actor's name, and (3) a close-up picture of the actor. None of this information is especially relevant to the article about the fictional band.) With careful thought and some teachings from information compression science, we could probably condense the whole encyclopedia down to a hundred articles or so. I don't understand the motivation for this thinking. What good is it serving to shrink the wiki article count at the expense of organization? Robert K S (talk) 16:23, 4 July 2008 (PDT)
Hm...I have to agree with Rob. If we keep condensing the wiki, it won't be as organized and contained. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  16:26, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

I would say Delete. It, to me has nothing to with the size of the article, as Lost contains so many little but significant subtleties, but rather the overall relevance to the show. As of yet, this drummer has no meaning outside Drive Shaft, so I feel he could be placed there.--LostLocke 20:54, 4 July 2008 (PDT)

Many things don't have meanings outside other things, but there are still articles. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  21:44, 4 July 2008 (PDT)
Its about being concise and not having articles that are better discussed elsewhere. It also makes Lostpedia less credible when we say "we have over 4000 articles" and yet there are loads of poor irrelevant pages. With this example, the page could be a redirect to "Drive Shaft" and info on this drummer could be there (as its an uncredited role anyway). An actual page for the man adds little, it just reiterates information and you end up with numerous articles covering the same content that could be merged. In fact, I would call this discussion a merge rather than a delete. --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:56, 5 July 2008 (PDT)
I would totally agree and support Nick on this. Perhaps the Drive Shaft page could be expanded to include sub-sections for each of the members of the band to include as much character and actor info as possible. Charlie, would of course, be directed to his own main page.--LostLocke 20:54, 7 July 2008 (PDT)
Well that's silly. Liam also had a large guest starring role on the show. Only two of the Drive Shaft members are truly trivial, and only one went nameless. What you're now proposing is that all three other bandmate articles be deleted? Robert K S (talk) 21:42, 7 July 2008 (PDT)
  • Roderick's got a name, so he, according to policy, stays. I feel that this character, since it has a named actor, should have its page kept as well. -- Sam McPherson  T  C  E  15:38, 9 July 2008 (PDT)
  • Keep as per Robert KS. --LeoChris 19:19, 9 July 2008 (PDT)
No consensus. I'll be removing the delete banner until there are more votes for delete. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 19:31, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
