Doubting the tight Desmond - Ben connection[]

While the theory does interestingly point out how circumstances have yet to throw Desmond and Ben into a scene together, this certainly does not constitute evidence of such a tight and hitherto unrevealed connection between the two characters. Thus, this "theory" seems more like rank speculation. Furthermore, it is not hard to conceive a more natural explanation of the "ambiguous" mission of the Kahana -- looking for Ben (according to Miles) and looking for Desmond (according to Naomi). Central to that explanation are the Widmores. Penny is closely connected with Desmond; Charles is closely connected with Ben; and, of course, Charles and Penny are father and daughter. Looking for Ben is the official mission of the Kahana. That's Charles Widmore's project. Looking for Desmond, and thus helping his daughter find her ex-flame, is just a convenient cover-story. It makes Charles seem less sinister, and helps avoid tipping off Ben. WeeBeestee 00:21, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

incorruptible[]

I was just rewatching the series and finished "Everybody Loves Hugo" which has in it the scene where Lock/MiB takes Desmond out to the well. What struck me is when Lock/MiB asks Desmond, "why aren't you afraid?" Desmond answers, "what is the point in being afraid?" Locke/MiB noticeably bothered by this gets pretty angry then pushes Desmond into the well. It got me thinking about the feud between MiB and Jacob. Desmond is incorruptible. Obviously, the fact that he is the key to everything is important, but we don't know if Locke/MiB even knows this. And why is Desmond the key? Is he "special" because he is incorruptible? The show is all about fate. Desmond's fate is clearly to be what he becomes. In order to be what he was fated to be, maybe he had to be incorruptible -- like the Virgin Mary. Desmond is pure, without sin. That is why he is not afraid. That is why he angers Locke/MiB so much. --Anna Ansible 12:08, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
