...this quote seems to be taken from the Hanso Foundation website which was put up by ABC. I don't think Alvar Hanso is a real person, is he?

As real as Jack, Kate, Sawyer, or the yummy Hurley.

---This site has been inaccessible to me ever since the last episode aired. Working for anyone?

  • In the latest podcast, the producers said the site is down for revamping --Uth 18:12, 30 March 2006 (PST)

Assuming he was atleast 20 during WW2, he would be around 80 now, which leads me to believe he is not the person in charge of The Others. It's also been my understanding that his involvement in the project was more financial and the real work was done by the DeGroots. --skks 16:10, 8 March 2006 (PST)

  • At least 20. How many 20 year old magnates do you know?  ;-) Probably at least 30 to 40's then. That's why I say he's probably dead. --Uth 18:12, 30 March 2006 (PST)

Anagrams[]

Anagram of Alvar Hanso makes "An Oval Rash" (perhaps The Sickness) The full list of acronyms is here: http://www.wordsmith.org/anagram/anagram.cgi?anagram=alvar+hanso

An oval rash is a symptom of Lyme Disease, by the way.--Gateboy42 07:53, 8 July 2006 (PDT)

The investigation letter[]

As far as I know, the website where the letter comes from is a fan site. Therefore the letter shouldn't be treated as a part of the Lost canon? --Jambalaya 06:42, 13 March 2006 (PST)

Leslie Nielsen?[]

I'm not seriously asking if it's him who plays Hanso, but in the photo of him in the window, does anyone see the resemblance that he has to Leslie Nielsen? I mean like they pretty much have the same nose and jaw... --Jack Healy 10:41, 6 June 2006 (PDT)

Wow! That really does look like Leslie neilson! Dee4leeds

Alvars[]

Looked up his first name as everyone seemed to be doing a lot of work on his surname, or anagrams of the whole name. Found this http://www.ramanuja.org/sv/alvars/ Quote: "Alvar means one who is "immersed" in the experience of God, the omnipresent mysterious One" Mrphil 07:58, 12 June 2006 (PDT)

Inaccuracy[]

This part from the main page -- "Side note: According to Gary Troup's interview with Laird Granger for Bad Twin, Alvar and the Hanso Foundation were both mentioned in a previous non-fiction book written by Gary called The Valenzetti Equation. Presumably, whatever Gary wrote about Alvar and the Foundation was not looked upon favorably by the Foundation because no one can find a copy of the book." -- is not accurate. It's pure speculation that Troup's book The Valenzetti Equation talks about Alvar and the Hanso Foundation. If there's a source for that statement, I'd love to see it. - Matt the pale 00:20, 22 June 2006 (PDT)

Lost Experience Tie[]

Since when has information been revealed by the Lost Expierence that someone that looks like Alvar or Alvar himself has been shown in many of the flashbacks during Lost?! Can anyone substantiate this?--Two Coyotes 22:20, 13 July 2006 (PDT)

Hanso is _____[]

The point of my last edit was to make a distinction between legitimate thought out theories and just filling in the blank, saying Hanso is him or him or him. It's asinine.--Two Coyotes 18:45, 26 July 2006 (PDT)

Why Mr. Beardy is not Alvar Hanso[]

Look at the beginning of the tribalwars clip. You clearly hear Mr. Beardy finish saying the word "DeGroots" before he says "Alvar Hanso." The clip does not go after 'Im'! People are jumping into an easy trap! --Risky 06:12, 12 August 2006 (PDT)

he says "my organization" hes alvar people hve worked for 3 months to find out...--Kman       talk contribs                   15:09, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
I belive he is finishing the word "I'm" in the new clip, and the images match perfectly. Why do you think it's DeGroots? --Jajasoon 15:28, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
I know I do not take part in the lost experince and everything but I have a question. Do you know it there is going to be clip after that one, because he could say: "I'm Alvar Hanso's son". Or something to that effect. If you want a non-lost experince person's take on it just tell me were a video with all of clips are put together is located and I will tell you what I think.--CaptainInsano
Okay I just saw it. There is a splice between I'm and Alvar Hanso. A "not" or something else can fit in there. After the clips the lips don't match up perfectly suggesting that there might be words before "Alvar", but again those words might be "in fact" for all we. As a regular non-Lost Experince follower that only watch the video once I would say that he is in fact Alvar Hanso. But I didn't watch it once... I watched it ten times and there are things I can't get over. Mr. Beardy, as you call guys call him, looking out the window; just like Hanso is in the Orientation video. That seems very shady. Then the small splice before Alvar. You know my views on that. Another thing is why don't you see Alvar's face in the Orientation video, I mean if Mr. Beardy is Hanso you have apparently already seen him. That is why as Captain Insano, I believe that he isn't Alvar Hanso.--CaptainInsano
well, they do like throwing us curveballs, but at the same time if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. --kaini. 16:44, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
Yeah, well what if it smells like a turkey?--CaptainInsano
Captain - look at other edits between clips. There's always a slight hiccup, as it's not a seamless process on the player. I agree that it's not a perfect match, but none of them are. I say we assume it's a match for now. If it's not, players will be really mad... --Jajasoon 16:54, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
Oh, yeah I totally understand how you guys are changing the pages and everything like that. I just won't believe it is him until all the clips are in.--CaptainInsano
Same here. It just seems to easy, that they wouldn't just reveal something like that that easily. There's definitely more to it. --Fezir 18:58, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
They aren't Revealing it easily though, The lost exp. was set up to find out more about the ahnso foundation, Alvar is just a paice of the puzzle. This is the 4th month that TLE has been going on, it's definitely near the end. The Sri lanka clips are probably the grand finale. I dont play TLE but I'm going have to say it's alvar just based off of waht i generally know about the game. --Kman       talk contribs                   19:30, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
I still say its Alvar. You can still hear the music in the background. And it fits in with that recording of Mittlewek and Peter Thompson. In that recording, it was an orientation about the Valenzetti Equation with Alvar as the narrator. I'm just surprised about how early in the glyph hunt they revealed his identity. I personally thought that this was gonna be the last clip released. And it's in the 3rd of 5th stage. Which means we still got a ways to go. --Marik7772003 22:03, 11 August 2006 (PDT)
There's no flippin' way that's Alvar Hanso. I mean, I think. :) Jengod 14:26, 14 August 2006 (PDT)
Mr Beardy looks about 30/40 in the 1975 orientation video, while he looks about 80+ in the 1980 Swan orientation film. --SilvaStorm
There are things regarding time and life extension that we don't fully understand yet. The writers say a lot of things that hint at some upcoming plot element about time, but I'm not sure how. We also don't even know if Alvar Hanso exists, or whether the Swan station was actually built in the 70s. Our knowledge only goes back as far as Kelvin, which isn't very far in the overall history of the island.

I knew that actor wasn't a real Dane!!![]

Just sayin lol, --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:42, 24 August 2006 (PDT)

Danes (ie. being Danish) are from Denmark[]

I noticed that the bio for Alvar Hanzo says that he is from the Netherlands (ie Dutch), but everything else I have ever read about him says that he is Danish, so that would mean his place of origin is Denmark.

And yeah, his accent doesn't sound danish at all in those videos... actually sounds a bit swedish

/me is danish—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Theothermike (talkcontribs) .

Well I'm half Danish and completely agree, he doesn't sound Scandenavian at all in my view. He sounds more Austrian with his upward inflections --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:19, 23 January 2007 (PST)

Agree, maybe due to poor acting. His accent is definitely not swedish (I'm swedish :)) //Staffie, 24 January 2007

photograph people category[]

  • I added Alvar Hanso to the cat of "Photograph Characters". Even though it is a bit of a gray area, it does qualify under the definiton of the cat. The only image seen of Hanso, although seen in the Swan Orientation Film which is a video, is still substantially a still image superimposed into the video. Also according to the definition of the cat, appearance in The Lost Experience does not qualify, although of course Hanso does appear live in The Lost Experience (via Sri Lanka Video and Norway Video); thus from the POV of the episode-only-viewing public, Hanso is known only from a static image. When and if this changes, this cat may be removed.-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  12:56, 6 January 2007 (PST)

"Quotes" section[]

The first quote listed is attributed to a television ad, which I don't recall and is not listed on the Hanso TV ads page. Does anyone have any more information about this? If not, I think it should be removed. --Invertebrat 03:57, 23 January 2007 (PST)

I agree, I don't remember it from a Hanso TV ad (most of which were of Mittelwerk anyway). The only thing I can suggest would be that it might be from the Hanso Phone Line - cause apart from that I played the whole Lost Experience and can't place it anywhere --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:03, 23 January 2007 (PST)

A connection between two 'the great' items in Lost[]

Hi - have tripped over this before - there have been references made before of the numbers creating the shape of The Great Bear constellation (The big dipper) on a Connect4 board; plus also the numbers add up to 108 - with Messier star catalogue object 108 (M108) being in said constellation (A galaxy); now another connection to the word The Great.... Thoughts?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elfranko (talkcontribs) .

Not in Portland[]

When was Hanso in Not in Portland? I don't remember him being there. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 15:55, 1 March 2007 (PST)

On the Room 23 video. Its a bit of a gray area to count it though, it was a split second shot. Then again, we're happy to list his, Gerald and Karen DeGroot as appearing in Orientation, so should the same rules not apply to this episode too? Tough call --Nickb123 (Talk) 14:48, 25 April 2007 (PDT)
  • I'm completely fine with him being credited. I just didn't realize he was in the video. --Mr. Crabby (Talk) 14:50, 25 April 2007 (PDT)

Swedish/Danish confusion[]

The name of the Swedish island mentioned in Trivia is called Öland, not Øland. Ö is however the Swedish equivalent of the Danish Ø.

Ö is also the Swedish word for island, just as Ø is the Danish word, which I think deserves a mentioning since there seems to be some debate about wether Alvar is Swedish or Danish.

Btw, I'm from Sweden if you're wondering. --TwoD 19:20, 6 May 2007 (PDT)

Hospitalized man?[]

We saw a man with gray hair, beard and mustache in a hospital bed next to Michael in "Meet Kevin Johnson". The first time I saw it I was suspicious but I wasn't sure. However, I recently compared the footage from the episode to the footage of Alvar Hanso shot by Rachel Blake on September 24th. Starting at 58 seconds into Blake's video you get an almost profile look at Hanso; you can see that their hairline and facial features are very similar (since the video does not give a full profile it is hard to say that they are exactly the same). The only difference is that the man in the hospital's beard and mustache are grayer meaning he has aged. As mentioned in Bad Twin the Hanso Foundation (and the Widmore Corporation) are located in New York City (as are Michael and the hospital). There is a reason they showed this man on screen for as long as they did and I think it is plausible that it is Alvar Hanso in that bed.

--Kaiden 09:28, 21 April 2008 (PDT)

If you post a comparison picture of the ears, you might be able to get some traction on this. I recall the hospitalized man having very distinctive ears. Robert K S (talk) 17:55, 21 April 2008 (PDT)
I removed my previous comment as I have finished my work and uploaded a comparison image [4]. My analysis of the picture is available on the talk page of that image [5]. --Kaiden 16:06, 22 April 2008 (PDT)

He looks like Daniel! Not Kidding![]

Allright, compare the profile pic of Daniel Faraday and the PORTAL pic of Alvar Hanso. They look quite alike in my opinion. Same hair, same eyes, same everything. Seriously. Not kidding, they look alike! If you want to respond to my theory, just do so on my talk page please. CharlotteStaplesLewis 17:33, 25 November 2008 (PST)
