In a foreshadowing of his own death, Locke and Boone have a conversation about redshirts from Star Trek, a type of stock character doomed to die to promote the progression of the storyline.

In the spoof video from Comic-Con 2009 where Michael Emerson is purportedly auditioning for the part of Hurley, he wears a bandana as well as a T-shirt from KTUH, the student radio station from the University of Hawaii.[23]
