Lost-season3

The Emmy Award-winning Lost returns for a third season of action-packed mystery and adventure. After Oceanic Air flight 815 tore apart in mid-air and crashed on a Pacific island, its survivors were forced to find inner strength they never knew they had in order to survive. The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them.

Filming is slated to begin in August 2006. Actors are slated to report back on Hawaii on August 7th. Season three will be airing without reruns, but will be separated into two continuous runs of episodes. The first run of six episodes will act as a kind of miniseries, ending with a cliffhanger to tease the second, bigger run of episodes.

What We Know / News on the Upcoming Season

Format and Direction

  • Season 3 will launch on October 4th 2006, starting with what Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof call a "mini-season" of 6 new episodes, running up to November 15th, and ending with a mini cliffhanger. The show will then take a 3 month long break until February 2007, when the season returns with 17 episodes which will run uninterrupted until the season finale in May 2007. (Sources: May 26th Podcast, official ABC site[1] and wikipedia[2]).
  • In an address to "Casa del Cinema di Roma" in Italy, Damon Lindelof announced that he and JJ Abrams had initially conceived the LOST story-arc in 4 seasons. If ABC were to continue with Lost for a 5th season, both Lindelof and Abrams would possibly leave. [3] (source in Italian).
  • J.J. Abrams will be more closely involved than he was with season two.

Plot

  • The captivity of Jack, Sawyer, and Kate will be an issue in the first episode.
  • The fates of Desmond, Locke, and Eko will be addressed.
    • It's probably safe to assume all three are alive, from the general tone of interviews.
  • According to an interview with Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof [4] and according to the May 26th Podcast season three will have more focus on The Others, introduce new characters and romance and interpersonal relationships will blossom.
    • Jack and Kate have specifically been mentioned as regards a romance in the third season; though not specifically with each other.
  • The four-toed statue is a lead to Season 3 where there will be attention to an archaeological theme and to the people who were on the island before the DHARMA Initiative's arrival in the late 1970s.
  • The season will concentrate on the Others, and by the end of the season we will know answers such as who they are? How many of them are there? What is their history? What are they trying to accomplish? [5]
  • In the Official Podcast in the aftermath of Season 2, Damon and Carlton also hinted that they would address issues in Season 3 such as how Jack got his tattoos (from Thailand).
  • There will be more underwater scenes in Season 3, as it is reported that the LOST crew have been working on the underwater tank used in Baywatch (which was also filmed in Hawaii)

[6].

Cast

  • Natasha Henstridge will join the cast in a role "made especially for her." [7]
  • Rodrigo Santoro will join the cast. [8]
  • The monster will definitely be back in season 3.
  • Michael Emerson, who portrayed Henry Gale in Season 2, will become a regular member of the LOST cast in Season 3 [9].
  • We will see some "background" survivors who are described as next:
    • Female, 30s, with leadership qualities
    • Female, early 20s, very attractive
    • Male, Latino, early 20s, handsome, mysterious quality
  • Harold Perrineau (Michael Dawson) is not a regular actor in next season. He will be back as a guest star like Walt in Season 2.
  • The growth of Malcolm David Kelly (Walt) will be addressed in the 3rd season.
  • Libby will be back in flashbacks.
  • On the official Lost Podcast it was said that Neil Frogurt will become a more pivotal character and have flashbacks.
  • Kimberley Joseph will return to her role as Cindy
  • The first episode of season three is allegedly called 'The Tale of Two Cities' [10].

Comic-Con spoilers

  • From the Comic-Con convention that some of the producers, including Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, the following information was gathered:
    • An event will happen mid-season that will blow people away!
    • We'll see more scenes from the outside world (taking place at the same time they are on the island).

Theories

  • Penelope Widmore will begin to put together an expedition team to head to the island to try to rescue Desmond (who may be dead, but the producers have hinted otherwise).
    • Eventually she and Michael will cross paths (towards end of season), and she will convince him to return with her. Reluctantly Michael will accept in an attempt to redeem himself.
    • Penelope Widmore could be the Female, 30s, with leadership qualities.
      • Descriptions like the ones provided above are typically provided for casting purposes. Therefore, if the "Female leader" were actually Penelope Widmore, it would suggest the character has been recast.
  • Jin/Sun will have another 'ellipses' episode like ...In Translation & ...And Found.
  • We will find out that Libby has a lot more to do with the island than we ever realized.
  • Characters from The Lost Experience will appear as some characters.
    • Rachel Blake's search for answers about Hanso/Dharma will lead her to the island.
      • Though in relation to the timeline, Rachel's search is taking place two years in the future.
        • Maybe she was on the island before.
  • The new female character with leadership qualities is possibly called Juliet. According to spoilerfix.com:"Juliet, a woman in her mid-30s, will be added to the cast as a regular. Juliet is a natural leader and a smart and independant woman. One of her flashbacks (?) will involve her mother Amelia. During said flashback, the ladies will discuss burnt brownies and Juliet's love life. It seems that Juliet may be an Other. Jack is held alone in a room and Juliet looks at him, seperated from him with a glass window. Jack tries to break the chains that are holding him. Juliet tries to convince an angered Jack to trust her." [13].
