Flash-sideways Timeline
(Oceanic Flight 815 lands at LAX)

You may be looking for his counterpart in the original timeline.

Sayid Hassan Jarrah (Arabic:سعيد جراح) is a passenger of Oceanic Flight 815 and a translator for an international oil company. Recently, after murdering a loan shark who had assaulted his brother, Omer, Sayid was arrested by James Ford and brought into custody.

Aboard Flight 815

Aboard the flight, Sayid kicked in a lavatory door to assist flight attendant Cindy Chandler and fellow passenger Jack Shephard in saving Charlie Pace, a passenger who had locked himself inside.

After the Flight

At the baggage carousel, Sayid encountered Leslie Arzt, a fellow passenger of Flight 815. As Sayid waited for his bag, he looked at a picture tucked inside of his passport. The picture was of his brother Omer's wife Nadia. ("LA X, Part 2")

Sayid took a taxi from the airport to his brother's house. At the house he was greeted by Omer, Nadia, and their two children, Eva and Sam. At the dinner table, Omer received a call on his cell phone, and left the room to talk to the caller. Sayid told his niece and nephew that he brought presents for them from Australia, and that they should go look in his suitcase for them. The children ran to find the presents, and Sayid was alone with Nadia. Nadia asked him if he got her letters and he told her that he did. Nadia commented that he never wrote back to her. Before Sayid could respond, the children ran back into the room with their gifts and thanked him excitedly. Eva was holding the picture of Nadia that was tucked in Sayid's passport at the airport. She handed the picture to her mother and told her that she and Sam found it in Sayid's bag.

Later, Omer revealed privately to Sayid that he was in financial trouble after taking a loan in order to open another store in his dry-cleaning business. Omer told Sayid that his lender was continuing to demand money from him, even though Omer's debt had been fully paid.

Sayid tells Omer that he refuses to use violence to help him. ("Sundown")

Omer asked Sayid to help him and referred to Sayid's past experience as an interrogator for the Iraqi Republican Guard, suggesting that he wanted Sayid to use violence. Sayid refused and told Omer that he was "not that man" anymore. Omer told Sayid he knew of Sayid's feelings for Nadia, and gave that as another reason for Sayid to help protect his household. The next day, Omer was violently attacked and brought to the hospital. Nadia begged Sayid to not take revenge, and to instead go back to the house and look after his niece and nephew. Later that same day, Sayid was approached on the street by two men

and taken by force to a restaurant kitchen, where he met a man introducing himself as Martin Keamy. Keamy explained that he was the person that lent money to Omer, and that someone needed to pay him back. Sayid accused Keamy of putting his brother in the hospital. As Keamy was denying this, Sayid grabbed one of Keamy's henchmen and used the man as a human shield. Once the henchman was dead, Sayid grabbed the man's gun and shot both Keamy and the other henchman.

As Sayid was leaving the kitchen, he heard a man yelling from inside the freezer. Sayid opened the freezer and found Jin Kwon bound and gagged inside. Sayid removed the tape from Jin's mouth and asked him who he was, but he responded, "no English." ("Sundown") Jin motioned for Sayid to free him, nodding towards a box cutter on the shelf. Sayid was apprehensive about helping him, but decided to carefully place the box cutter in his hand. He wished him good luck, before departing the scene. ("The Package") Unfortunately, Sayid was caught on camera entering and fleeing the carnage, and the tape eventually meade it's way to the LAPD ("The Last Recruit")

Sayid is stopped by James.

After the murders, Sayid returned to Omer and Nadia's house and packed his bags to flee justice. He was interrupted, however, when Nadia asked what Sayid had done to settle Omer's debt, and had to run when a police detective knocked on the door, looking for him. However, on his way out the backdoor, he was tripped up, held at gunpoint, and arrested by Det. James Ford. ("The Last Recruit")

While Sayid was in police custody, he was greeted by Desmond Hume, who had just turned himself in for hit-and-run and assault. Later, while Sayid, Desmond, and Kate Austen were being brought from holding to prison, Desmond mentioned that it was "time to get out of here". Although Sayid considered Desmond a "crazy person who turned himself in" (taking Desmond's confirmation that he ran over a man in a wheelchair as proof), he accepted the offer to escape in exchange for an unidenified favor. After the escorting officer let them out of the truck, Hugo Reyes arrived, handing the officer her bribe. At Desmond's request, Sayid went with Hugo to an unknown location. ("What They Died For")
