Podcast Summary • Podcast Transcript

A transcript is a retrospective written record of dialogue, and like a script (a prospective record) may include other scene information such as props or actions. In the case of a transcript of a film or television episode, ideally it is a verbatim record. Because closed-captioning is usually written separately, its text may have errors and does not necessarily reflect the true Canonical transcript.

Transcripts for Lost episodes up to and including "Enter 77" are based on the transcriptions by Lost-TV member Spooky with aid of DVR, and at times, closed captions for clarification. She and Lost-TV have generously granted us permission to share/host these transcripts at Lostpedia. Later transcripts were created by the Lostpedia community, unless stated otherwise below.

[Opening Lost theme]

Kris White: Welcome to the official LOST Pod cast hosted by ABC.com. In today's edition executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse take your fan questions and give us a tantalizing preview of this weeks episode Maternity Leave, which airs Wednesday March 1st from 9 to 10 PM eastern. First up though, a special exclusive interview with actor Jorge Garcia who plays the unlucky Hurley.

[Soundtrack music]

Kris White: While it's true that the producers discovered Jorge because of a guest starring role on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jorge has been acting and acting out since he was a kid.

Jorge Garcia: When I was a kid and I remember seeing the movie Fiddler On The Roof, and my parents also took me to see Fiddler On The Roof at one point and I would sing like If I Were a Rich Man around the house a lot. I think that was, that was kind of um you know there was definitely you know there's also if you look at old pictures of me there was definitely like a need for attention in some of these pictures and so you know it probably started pretty early.

Kris White: A little known musical entitled Drabble was Jorge's big break in Junior High.

Jorge Garcia: Yea Drabble uh is this comic strip and uh they made a musical out of it which uh I was in when I was in Junior High. And I uh played, I think my character's name was Bart and I was essentially the villain on the show who was stealing the recipe for a secret sauce for this burger joint. And I had this, I had my one song and the whole thing was one performance the whole show. We only ran for one performance and uh but um I kinda stole the show with that song really got the audience going and, and that was quite the thrill.

Interviewer: What was the song?

Jorge Garcia: The song was called Power.

Interviewer: Can you sing a few parts [laughs]?

Jorge Garcia: Oh wow how did it go? It was like: [speaks] If you wanna get somewhere in this life you gotta be strong, you gotta be ruthless, you've gotta have power [sings] It's the most precious thing. It's a treasure that money can buy. I don't, I don't remember any of it.

Kris White: With a voice like that we weren't surprised to discover that Jorge, like his counterpart on Lost, is a huge music head.

Jorge Garcia: I really love the um the kind of search for records cause a lot of that seems to have fallen by the wayside uh with you know things like MTV and uh certain you know big Top 40 radio that have very specific set play lists. You kinda lose like the way uh people used to like find a record and get into it, play it, take it over to a friend's house and the friend would buy the record and that kind of thing. There's new, I think now with a lot of new technology there's a lot more search then there was now. Cause now there's a lot more access to music like with through the Internet and stuff like that. Uh but um you know so I'm always interested like when i working at Borders I would flip through the bins just to find an album cover that I didn't know or a band I'd never heard of just to find out what they sounded like because if you don't have like the big marketing publicity machine behind you there's a lot of bands that just show up and disappear with one album.

Kris White: Here's what's in his heavy rotation.

Jorge Garcia: Uh Antony and the Johnsons. Uh and uh listening to uh Wolf Parade right now a lot. Um what else like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and the new Strokes.

Kris White: Next week we continue our interview with Jorge. Now though we turn it over to executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.

Carlton Cuse: Hello, and welcome to yet another podcast. I'm Carlton Cuse.

Damon Lindelof: and I'm Damon Lindelof. I...I....

Carlton Cuse: Hello Damon.

Damon Lindelof: Hi Carlton. And then, and then the theme music that we never hear. I want my own theme song.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs]

Damon Lindelof: After yours.

Carlton Cuse: Oh, brother.

Damon Lindelof: After yours.

Carlton Cuse: Now, now.

Damon Lindelof: When you say "I'm Carlt"...

Carlton Cuse: The ego's coming out now isn't it, really funny.

Damon Lindelof: No I'm just saying when you say, "I'm Carlton Cuse." there should be something kind of, you know, regal and stendatory and you know kind of...

Carlton Cuse: Trumpets.

Damon Lindelof: And then when I go, "And I'm Damon Lindelof," there should be like kind of like a more goofy...

Carlton Cuse: Like a little mic post...

Damon Lindelof: Yeah.

Carlton Cuse: Uh rock-and-roll riff.

Damon Lindelof: Kinda like.. [sings] "doodle-doodle-doo" you know kinda... I don't know. That's just a uh suggestion.

Carlton Cuse: Ok well Kris that's, you know, that's gonna be up to you. Kris is our producer here.

Damon Lindelof: Kris is the one person who sits with us as we do these podcasts, and we you know we we we we hope that he smiles and laughs as we say things and that gives us some sense of whether or not we're being amusing because...

Carlton Cuse: Exactly.

Damon Lindelof: That's really what this is all about. Cause who cares about LOST? Your, you just want Carlton and I do shtick for 20 minutes.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] Well since we last uh spoke to you all Bodie Miller has been a complete disaster, Damon.

Damon Lindelof: Yes that is uh, I am... I am very disappointed in the Olympics although I'm kinda into speed skating, especially the short course. But that's just me.

Carlton Cuse: I feel bad for for Bodie. A little, a little too much pressure, and you know we know a thing or two about pressure.

Damon Lindelof: And a, a thing or two about snowboarding, Carlton.

Carlton Cuse: And Ice dancing.

Damon Lindelof: [laughs] You could say that.

Carlton Cuse: In fact Damon and I are going to try out for the same sex Ice Dancing in the next uh, in the uh in the Vancouver Games.

Damon Lindelof: Is there going to be same sex ice dancing?

Carlton Cuse: Well there will be. Yes! As soon as we get our proposal done.

Damon Lindelof: I'm uh still getting over our rejection in the curling competition this year. But I don't wanna talk about it.

Carlton Cuse: So lets talk about One of Them.

Damon Lindelof: I do, I do uh wanna talk about One of Them though.

Carlton Cuse: Alright, Ok. So um lets um you know. So obviously we introduced Henry Gale.

Damon Lindelof: Yes. Or! Uh that's what he that's what he said his name was anyway.

Carlton Cuse: Uh intentional Wizard of Oz reference?

Damon Lindelof: Well yes, well you know I mean, when we name characters on this show it's definitely something that we do with a fair degree of thought and calculation and uh for those of you who don't already know uh Dorothy Gale is his, uh the you know the uh infamous uh Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz and she has an Uncle and a Aunt. Uh Aunt, uh Auntie Em, who is very well known. But she also has an Uncle Henry who is less well known. So he would be uh Henry Gale and uh...

Carlton Cuse: Right.

Damon Lindelof: And, and obviously our Henry on the show says he crashed in a balloon. Um so that could potentially also be an Oz reference if I were looking closely.

Carlton Cuse: Do you think Vincent is an alias for Toto?

Damon Lindelof: I do...

Carlton Cuse: Ok.

Damon Lindelof: Not.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs]

Damon Lindelof: Um uh so obviously it's very interesting now. We have the Michael Emerson who plays Henry is a fantastic actor.

Carlton Cuse: I think it's pretty interesting.

Damon Lindelof: It is. What the uh the alias thing?

Carlton Cuse: No, no

Damon Lindelof: That Vincent could be Toto?

Carlton Cuse: No. That Henry's in the hatch.

Damon Lindelof: Oh yeah. I think it's interesting too. And and uh and actually one of the things that we love to do on the show is these arcs. And uh people always ask us, "Do you know what you're doing?", "Do you know what's going to happen next?", "What's the grand plan?" and you know this sort of idea of having an uh, having someone get captured and to question to is whether or not he was an Other, forcing us to sort of say, "Well what, what is an Other exactly?". Isn't anybody who was on the Island who wasn't in our plane crash by definition an Other. And is there just one group of people on the Isl..what, what's going on here? has sort of captured our imagination certainly.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah, and I think in a larger sense, even the title One of Them I think sort of deals with the issue of sort of the judgements we make about people who we do not know. And Henry is a person we do not know and he's treated in a specific way um you know based on fear and um and and sort of where they are kind of as a society at that moment and and you know I think that there were some, there were some parallels I think that made this story you know maybe a little bit more topical then some of your other LOST episodes. But in a way we were sort of were engaged by that in the breaking and the witting of the episode.

Damon Lindelof: I think what's also really cool about it is, you know, people always ask us, you know, "When are we going to see society building?", "When are we going to see a sort of like sociological structures form?" And one of the things is we kind of realize as we write the show, especially since they've only been there for about two months now at this time. That we don't really think it would be human nature to elect a leader and you know society building stories. That we find by sort of putting these guys into situations of conflict it forces them to make the society decisions. So now we have law and order and justice. You have a prisoner. So how do you treat them, and you know and, and what is your concept of guilt, and who makes decisions? Is it one person, or a committee of people? Or all those things and those are the story's were kinda going to be dealing with over the course in the next bunch of episodes.

Carlton Cuse: Right, and what constitutes justice? I mean you know in a society where there is no defined set of laws I mean so you know and Henry will be a very big presence over the next few episodes and I think that his you know the question of who exactly is Henry Gale is something that's um gonna be we're exploring in great detail over the next, uh over the next, the next batch of episodes and...

Damon Lindelof: Right and, and I think you know obviously on LOST we introduce characters on the show and the audience has been conditioned to kinda think no one is what they seem to be. But you know we like, we think that its just as interesting potentially that you could find out a couple episodes from now that he's exactly who he says he is. But just the fact that our characters are in such a place of mistrust what could happen as a result of you know of that. So you know keep your eyes peeled and, and we think that's pretty cool. Also kind of big uh shout outs to Naveen um Andrews who just did fantastic work um in, in, in that episode in addition to Michael Emerson and Clancy Brown who played, who made a great impression just in the couple scenes as Inman.

Carlton Cuse: Who you may know as the uh as the guard from Shawshank Redemption.

Damon Lindelof: He's also in Highlander you know he got to like cut people's heads off.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah, he's a fantastic actor and someone who we actually were really dying to have on the show for a while and it finally worked out that he was available and we had a part that he wanted to do and that was great. You know there was also a cross in this episode um which uh you know we as we like to do we like to sort of show the inner contectiveness of our various characters and yes the, the solider was Kate's father. And in fact the picture he was holding was in fact...

Damon Lindelof: Colonel Austen, yes.

Carlton Cuse: Was uh yeah, Colonel Austen. [laughs]

Damon Lindelof: Who will eventually become the 6 Million Dollar Man.

Carlton Cuse: I don't think he was a Colonel. I don't think he was a full-on Colonel. He was more like a Sergeant. Colonel Austen was the 6 Million Dollar Man.

Damon Lindelof: But yes, that picture was...

Carlton Cuse: It was Evangeline!

Damon Lindelof: The actual Evangeline Lilly at age 13.

Carlton Cuse: She actually provided us with several choices and we chose that one, so...

Damon Lindelof: She is just cute as a button.

Carlton Cuse: That is what she really looked like at age 13 and um, um. Um the other big element in One Of Them that we should talk about Damon, is the numbers counting down past the zero.

Damon Lindelof: Right I've been, I don't know about you Carlton, but I've been waiting for that to happen for quite some time now.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] I, I think that they..

Damon Lindelof: I'm a little frustrated.

Carlton Cuse: I've been frustrated that it's taken so long to get to that, personally. But the um, those hieroglyphics.

Damon Lindelof: Is that what you'd call them?

Carlton Cuse: I, I would call them hieroglyphics. I would say they would be sort of if you were to look up some Egyptian hieroglyphics you might, you might find something about them.

Damon Lindelof: But I only saw four of the hieroglyphics. It felt like one of them had, was still flipping around so would I need to know what that symbol was in order to fully understand what the, what the message is?

Carlton Cuse: Well you might, and you know it's probably a pretty good thing that Locke did not. Entered the code before that thing, that thing quit spinning.

Damon Lindelof: I have to be honest with you Carlton, I... I'm one of those people who thinks if they don't push that button nothing is going to happen so...

Carlton Cuse: Well I think then you know that's, that's your opinion and you should stick to it.

Damon Lindelof: All right. I'm just saying. That's me.

Carlton Cuse: But I don't know if I'd necessarily agree with you.

Damon Lindelof: All right. I'd be, I'd also like to say for the record that I'd be pretty disappointed if that were the case. After a whole season of it.

Carlton Cuse: That would be pretty...that would be pretty...

Damon Lindelof: That would be pretty sucky.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah, you know it's like...

Damon Lindelof: I'm just saying...

Carlton Cuse: That's like, that's like snow globe time.

Damon Lindelof: One man's opinion.

Carlton Cuse: OK.

Damon Lindelof: Um moving on...

Carlton Cuse: That's actually two men's opinions.

Damon Lindelof: Who's the other one?

Carlton Cuse: Me.

Damon Lindelof: Oh, ok you concur.

Carlton Cuse: [scoffs] You know if were going to be ice dancing partners we gotta get on the same page here, dude.

Damon Lindelof: I wanna play your theme song again. Can we, if we do the ice dance will it be sort of more of a...

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] I'm thinking something with a Latin verve.

Damon Lindelof: Ok. That's good.

Carlton Cuse: So Maternity Leave. This is an episode that's coming up. Let's just get, let's just move on here.

Damon Lindelof: I'm just saying isn't Latin Verve the title of your autobiography?

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] It will be. It will be.

Damon Lindelof: Excellent.

Carlton Cuse: Exactly.

Damon Lindelof: Um, Maternity Leave is this week's episode. Written by Matt Ragghianti and Dawn Kelly who have actually been writers' assistants on LOST since the very beginning.

Carlton Cuse: For two years.

Damon Lindelof: Which is awesome because you know uh as television shows are written you know your writers' assistants are in the room. Everyday. Working 15 hours a day, getting everything, all the silly ideas that we throw out and into these documents.

Carlton Cuse: They sit there and they basically take notes, and we sit around in the room with all the writers and we hash out the stories and they write it all down literally a transcript of it. But then they have to actually kind of creatively go through and discern what are the things we landed on because for any given scene...

Damon Lindelof: Cause we don't know.

Carlton Cuse: ...there may be 15 ideas.

Damon Lindelof: So you know every year as the show gets written we write a script about every 8 days. That's how fast the, the, the show gets written. And we have about one week off um for Christmas break, every year. But we can't actually just shut down. We can't stop writing. So some unlucky writer unfortunately gets stuck with writing the Christmas script and that was Dawn and Matt this year. Who you know, who, who had to forego their own vacation to um...

Carlton Cuse: Well one of them was in Costa Rica and the other was in France so it wasn't quite so...

Damon Lindelof: They were, they were. One was in Paris and the other was in Costa Rica but they were writing.

Carlton Cuse: They were writing.

Damon Lindelof:They were writing.

Carlton Cuse: So it's not, it's not too.. you know let's not like get too Charles Dickens here.

Damon Lindelof: And what's very exciting about this episode we think is for all the guff we take about never answering any questions on this show, this is a story we've kind of...

Carlton Cuse: Blah, blah blah. Blah, blah, blah.

Damon Lindelof: Sorry. This is a story we've kinda wanted to do for a long time and this was the time to do it. And we are, you know we are going to get another Claire flashback story. But we are going to do something that we've never done before on the show which is her flashbacks are actually to an experience on the Island that she has forgotten so.

Carlton Cuse: Which would happen to be the time that went missing from her memory when she returned from being captured by Ethan.

Damon Lindelof: Yes. So for those of you who have the DVD's you might want to go back in time and watch Raised By Another again before you see this episode because I think you'll find some cool parallels. And then uh Homecoming which are sort of the two episodes on either side of Claire's missing time.

Carlton Cuse: Right.

Damon Lindelof: And this uh, this sort of fills in the blanks there. Obviously, with what's kind of cool also about this episode is what we saw from One Of Them, Rousseau's back in town. She's kind of around. She brings this Other to Sayid. So she thinks it's an Other. Basically, for those of who have kind of forgotten, Rousseau is invested in these Other's for a very specific emotional reason. Which is...

Carlton Cuse: That's right her daughter was taken by the Others as a baby, and uh has been missing for 16 years. And her sort of mission you know and existence on this Island has really been driven by her desire to be reunited with her daughter, Alex.

Damon Lindelof: Alex. Hey! In uh, in, in... wasn't there in uh, in, in, in the 11th episode, I think this year when they all run into the others and the bearded guy is being all mean and saying [Weird redneck/pirate accent] "This is our Island. And you're, I've got a beard and a hat, and I'm angry." Right before all the torches went on, didn't he shout out "Alex!"? or something like that?

Carlton Cuse: No, he shouted Alice.

Damon Lindelof: Alice?

Carlton Cuse: Alice.

Damon Lindelof: Oh. OK.

Carlton Cuse: Or was it Alec?

Damon Lindelof: I don't know. It could have been Alex. I'm just...

Carlton Cuse: It might have been Alex.

Damon Lindelof: That's been pointed out to me.

Carlton Cuse: That has? OK. Well that's..

Damon Lindelof: Interesting.

Carlton Cuse: Well that might be a connection too. So maybe you'll meet Alex.

Damon Lindelof: Maybe.

Carlton Cuse: You know so... We're, we're trying to answer a few questions but hey! there'll be other questions that'll come up and we'll be ready so lets not, you know, let's keep expectations low.

Damon Lindelof: Yes. Low.

Carlton Cuse: Very low.

Damon Lindelof: And we'll be seeing more of you know um you know uh more of Henry Gale.

Carlton Cuse: Yes.

Damon Lindelof: And what's also cool is um, you know there's been a lot of kind of macho guys walking through jungle, and in One Of Them actually, there are no women in the show uh at all. And it was pointed out to me that in the story in the hatch other than Rousseau. Um you know, and Sayid's backstory, which is all Army dudes. And then Sawyer and Hurley tromping through the jungle there's, there's, so you're gonna get a lot of girly action this week.

Carlton Cuse: That's right. Very heavy estrogen levels.

Damon Lindelof: Unlike Carlton. What? [laughs] That's what you get for ice dancing.

Carlton Cuse: You know what? Maybe there's some subliminal reason that we only had guys in our episode Damon.

Damon Lindelof: Hey Carlton guess what it's time for.

Carlton Cuse: It's time for questions.

Damon Lindelof: Yay!

Carlton Cuse: Kris queue the question music. [Question music starts?] Ok.

Damon Lindelof: I'd like to start Carlton because...

Carlton Cuse: Oh my God. Ok.

Damon Lindelof: .. as we sort of mentioned in reference to One Of Them. Um, this is from Jedixfile the..

Carlton Cuse: Cool.

Damon Lindelof: The subject line is: Sawyer sucks as a human.

Carlton Cuse: Uh-huh.

Damon Lindelof: Sawyer disgusts me but he does make a good villan though. However never pair him up with Kate. Ever. I swear if you guys do that I am gonna seriously boycott this show. I know you got a lot of Sawyer-Kate fans but that just doesn't make any good sense to me. What these fans see is completley crazy to me. He is trying to kill a tree frog? What!?! You know this man is everything I am not. Force a good looking woman to kiss him. I respect women and would never do that. Con people. I wouldn't either. Hurt an innocent woman who helped tend his wounds, hell no. Kill animals? I so "heart" wildlife its not even funny. So Sawyer sucks as a human. Have him stay far away from Kate.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] Well. Thank you.

Damon Lindelof: There's not really a question in there but...

Carlton Cuse: I don't really even know where to begin.

Damon Lindelof: The question I would ask is sort of the tree frog thing.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah.

Damon Lindelof: One step too far for Sawyer?

Carlton Cuse: The tree frog thing you know it's a, it's a funny thing. You could pretty much have a, you can have a character do anything on the show except for harm an animal. That is, that's like the, that is sort of the movie world no-no. I mean there's a famous story I think about, the movie Cliffhanger with Slyvester Stalone were he puts a tracking device on this rabbit and these bad guys are chasing after it, and apparently so the story goes they sho.., in the first five...

Damon Lindelof: John Lithgow like shoots the rabbit.

Carlton Cuse: Shoots the rabbit.

Damon Lindelof: And never worked again.

Carlton Cuse: And he well, no. But the test audience, that was it. The movie like it, they plumetted down. So they went out and spent all this money to reshoot the scene where the rabbit lived. And then the scores, you know, in the previews went way up. So hopefully we, you know, we just really felt that it was really in Sawyers character to kill that tree frog. But no actual tree frog was harmed in the making of the show. It was actually a special effects tree frog and it you know. But we felt it was true to Sawyer's character. I mean Sawyer, you know, is a guy that is both good and bad and I think part of what we, you know, we need to do on this show is show both sides of these characters. And in fact they're not on this Island by random circumstances. They're not on this Island because they're nice people. They're on this Island because there are things in the past of all these characters that, you know, are still being worked out in the circumstances of this show.

Damon Lindelof: Good answer.

Carlton Cuse: So other than that, um you know, I "heart" wildlife too.

Damon Lindelof: Good. So do I.

Carlton Cuse: Ok.

Damon Lindelof: Great I feel better about that.

Carlton Cuse: Ok. So um, Damon?

Damon Lindelof: Yes Carlton?

Carlton Cuse: So Rweed2005 says: I was watching season one this weekend. When Boone gets into the Beachcraft and got on the radio, he got someone on the radio. He said they were survivors of the Oceanic flight I'm not sure he heard correctly but did the person on the other end say there were no surviors of Oceanic flight 815? Should we just clear this up once and for all, or has it already been cleared up once and for all?

Damon Lindelof: It's been fairly cleared. Obviously, when you answering the question to someone named "Rweed", you know it does require... I'm gonna just talk a little slow. I know there are a lot of pretty colors in the show. But basically if you watch The Other 48 Days, which is from season 2, and you might not have gotten there yet. We actually see that Bernard has found a radio in one of the DHARMA storage areas. And he is the one who is actually talking to Boone, when Boone broadcasts...

Carlton Cuse: People already know all this. I'm gonna just jump ahead to another question here. Which is more interesting.

Damon Lindelof: Thank God.

Carlton Cuse: Damon and Carlton: What would you see in the black smoke? by booyah319. What's hidden in your past Damon? When will we get flashbacks from Damon and Carlton's lives?

Damon Lindelof: I actually checked off the same question for you Carlton. So actually in the black smoke you would see my Bar Mitzvah. That would be pretty much, if the monster were to take on some sort of form it would be a huge Torah. For those of you not familiar with the Jewish religion uh when you are 13 and uh forced to...

Carlton Cuse: Don't explain what a Bar Mitzvah is. That's ok, I think, getting a little too micro here.

Damon Lindelof: I'll just, I'll just say..

Carlton Cuse: A Bar Mitzvah everybody knows what a Bar Mitzvah is. If they don't go to another web site.

Damon Lindelof: Yeah. I'll just say...

Carlton Cuse: Go to the Bar Mitzvah .com web site.

Damon Lindelof: The difference. Yeah. So in the black smoke of Mr. Eko he's beating somebody with a rock and climbing out of water. I am, it is my Bar Mitzvah. That's mine.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] I was just gonna say is he going to be beating you with a rock? In the black smoke Mr. Eko would be beating you with a rock.

Damon Lindelof: My flashbacks I don't think would be terribly interesting. I've never killed anybody to my knowledge. Um, I've never been a con-man. I'm not a doctor.

Carlton Cuse: What's interesting is that in fact, like our characters on our show, maybe we should tell the story for the podcast audience about our mysterious cross in the past. Can we do the short abbreviated version of that?

Damon Lindelof: I don't think we can without the visual aid. But I, I... let's tease it for a future podcast.

Carlton Cuse: All right. That's a good story. But there was a cross that Damon and I had.

Damon Lindelof: Yes.

Carlton Cuse: Many years before we actually knew each other.

Damon Lindelof: That would be a good flashback. Before we knew each other. And then we realized.

Carlton Cuse: We found the cross.

Damon Lindelof: And then we can actually post the photograph and that will be very exiting.

Carlton Cuse: Oh, yeah. That's really cool. That's a cool idea.

Damon Lindelof: Cause there's a photograph of our cross but we just didn't realize it.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah. So.

Damon Lindelof: That's what's really exciting about it.

Carlton Cuse: This is sort of like a, this is like sort of a trailer for an upcoming podcast. That's cool.

Damon Lindelof: It is.

Carlton Cuse: OK.

Damon Lindelof: Ok. Alright Carlton, I have, I guess I have one more question for you. About Locke and his ladies.

Carlton Cuse: Excellent.

Damon Lindelof: This is from Decradiohourfangirl01. Hey Damon and Carlton. I was watching my season 1 DVD's the other day and noticed something that didn't fit. In the episode Walkabout Locke says that he has had his condition for 4 years, and that the last 8 months with Helen was great. Um, this is the woman that he was on the phone with.

Carlton Cuse: Right.

Damon Lindelof: Uh, but when we do see Helen in person in the episode Orientation he isn't paraplegic. So were there actually two Helens? Thanks.

Carlton Cuse: [sighs] There are not two Helen's per say. There is a real Helen, and then there is Locke's efforts to relive his relationship with Helen by having someone pretend to be Helen.

Damon Lindelof: So the woman on the phone. Kinda the one that he's having quote -unquote...

Carlton Cuse: A phone relationship..

Damon Lindelof: A illicit relationship with he's just calling her Helen.

Carlton Cuse: Right.

Damon Lindelof: But she's not the Helen that...

Carlton Cuse: We've seen in flesh and blood incarnate played by Katey Segal.

Damon Lindelof: Well what happened to that Helen?

Carlton Cuse: Well that's actually a very good question Damon. I think we should answer that in an upcoming episode.

Damon Lindelof: [laughs] Thank God.

Carlton Cuse: All right let me just ask you one final question myself ok?

Damon Lindelof: I wish you would.

Carlton Cuse: And this is posted by Superradish. Um a name that seems very appropriate given the highly um highly evolved theorizing that Superradish is doing. And I would just skip to this part of the, of his theorizing and ask you, "Damon, if I asked the following, if I asked if the following were anything to do with the Island purpose, could you provide a simple yes or no with out giving too much away? 2012 "colon" the Venus transit.

Damon Lindelof: So I'm just answering?

Carlton Cuse: Yes.

Damon Lindelof: Yes or no?

Carlton Cuse: "slash" the end of the Mayan 4th age "comma" man "comma", I mean not "comma", "parenthesis".

Damon Lindelof: No.

Carlton Cuse: [Laughs] How about Holian? pole reversal?

Damon Lindelof: No.

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] Indigo children uh and then in parenthesis Walt.

Damon Lindelof: No [laughs] Is that a, is indigo a coloration?

Carlton Cuse: [laughs] I don't... I don't know. I don't wanna expand on my theory in depth cause some of these concepts are based on a proven science.

Damon Lindelof: Walt is actually. Yeah I should actually point out that Walt is African American and not indigo.

Carlton Cuse: Ok.

Damon Lindelof: Um last I checked.

Carlton Cuse: Well ok so I think that um...

Damon Lindelof: Not that there's anything wrong with indigo children. I'm sure they're lovely. I just have never seen one.

Carlton Cuse: There is many interesting things in your theory here but, but we have, I think, kind of definitively said that those things are actually not a part of our own mythological construct. So um...

Damon Lindelof: But for more about the Mayan 4th age I apparently. Our own Disney corporation is producing Apocolypto. Mel Gibson's uh stunning adventure through wackiness.

Carlton Cuse: Well you know if you go on, if you look at the trailer that's online and you actually stop..

Damon Lindelof: There's an Easter egg in there, yeah.

Carlton Cuse: Yeah. You can see Mel Gibson with his arm around the crazy like people with like the white...

Damon Lindelof: Well no they look crazy.

Carlton Cuse: Well actually he looks crazy.

Damon Lindelof: Yeah. He's got a big beard and...

Carlton Cuse: But yeah you just have to find those uh those guys and then stop and then you'll find the one frame where Mel has his arm around. It's cool. We haven't done anything like that. We haven't done any like little single frame Easter eggs that would require that level of vigilance, have we?

Damon Lindelof: We should see if we can get Mel to do one for us.

Carlton Cuse: If Mel would do that we would put that in the show. Absolutely. All right. Well thanks you guys it's been fun as always Damon.

Damon Lindelof: Again we apologize for all the rerun's you're suffering through. It'll be over in probably about another 3 or 4 weeks and then we've got a great run of episodes that are gonna sort of close out uh season 2. And uh bare with us um hopefully it will be worth the wait and uh we appreciate you guys watching the show.

Carlton Cuse: Excellent. All right. Time to go to the ice rink.

Damon Lindelof: [laughs]

Carlton Cuse: Bye.

Damon Lindelof: Hoor-ah!

Kris White: Thanks for joining us. Next time we'll have more with Jorge Garcia, and another inquisitive session from the lost writers. Remember you can submit your own fan questions at Lost.abc.com. Maternity Leave airs Wednesday, March 1st from 9 to 10pm. Only on ABC.
