• One of the areas of research carried out by the DHARMA Initiative was the Life Extension Project which involved grafts and/or transplants and/or regrowing human bones and tissues. The amputees are examples of failed experiments or even experiments that are still in progress.

• When someone becomes infected with the sickness they can be saved by immediate amputation or removal of the initial site of infection.

• It all has to do with the magic box. When a psychic projection fails, some body parts go missing.
  • This would not explain the missing body parts of people who are not on the island. although it could be possible that they once were on the island, or involved in a Dharma experiment.
