Why Melbourne?[]

  • It seems a strange choice to name this company "Melbourne Walkabout Tours", considering Locke is in Sydney. The two cities of Sydney and Melbourne are fierce rivals, and it would be doubtful any business would startup in Sydney with "Melbourne" as its name.
    • It may be an indication to the low level of awareness for the US and international Lost audience (i.e. non-Australian audience) about Australia as a whole. The writers picked one of the simplest Australian city names, rather than confuse the issue with "Outback" or Uluru or perhaps some worse faux-Aussie names like Bluey, Occa, Strain, Bunyip or Dinkum.
    • Is Locke in Sydney? I seem to recall that he is actually in Melbourne for the Walkabout tour, and that he is offered a flight to Sydney by the Walkabout manager/guide after he is told he will not be able to participate due to his disability status.
  • In choosing Melbourne as the name, it confuses the location on where Locke is. But we know the flight departs Sydney, and we are also shown some scenes of Sydney during the Exposé shoot (though the scene does not physically exist).
