Mattingly was not the [[The Others|Other]], but rather a US soldier who was murdered, and his uniform taken. His presence on Jacob's wall means he was intended to be a [[Candidates|Candidate]], but this expired upon hid death. Interestingly because the man who took his identity was an Other, he must have also been a candidate.

Mattingly was not the Other, but rather a US soldier who was murdered, and his uniform taken. His presence on Jacob's wall means he was intended to be a Candidate, but this expired upon hid death. Interestingly because the man who took his identity was an Other, he must have also been a candidate.
