- The Man in Black May have pretended that Charles put the bomb in there to intentionally get them all to trust him, eventually leading to the sub. At this point he knew one if them would have to sacrifice themselves: probably Jack, Jin or Sayid. He hoped it would be Jack because he was most likely to replace Jacob
