• Should we do a little limit poll or something? So if we organize this now and say we need, for instance, 70 quotes per Season - so that makes 280. Then we have 85 left. ARG limit could be 30, so then that leaves 55. Via Domus could be 10 as its short, so that leaves 45. Another 5 for mobisodes, so that's 40. Podcast/DVD extras could be 20, so that leaves 20 for a random list which we could leave if needs be, etc. It'll be hard getting 70 per season but we need a full calendar before launch. --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:34, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
    • K ARG section now has 30 quotes. --Nickb123 (Talk) 12:22, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
      • We could probably do 20 for Via Domus, and 30 for Podcast/DVD extras. Also, would it be one is allotted for a certain date? Because that would mean we could have "themed" quotes. --Blueeagleislander 18:08, 1 August 2008 (PDT)
        • Erm let's just get 365 first lol. Then I'll find some generator that randomifies them, and then from there we can switch ones round to suit dates if applicable. --Nickb123 (Talk) 06:42, 2 August 2008 (PDT)
          • Okay, I've gone through all of Season 4, and it has about 65 quotes. --Blueeagleislander 03:14, 5 August 2008 (PDT)

Sections needing work

  • Season 4, season 3, season 1, mobisodes, ARGs, and Via Domus probably all have enough, so unless a really great one has been missed, these don't need anymore. Podcast/DVDs, and season 2 need quite a few more. I think about 2 to 4 quotes per episode is enough. Also, could quotes be organised in episode order, so double-ups and such can be avoided. --Blueeagleislander 01:08, 12 August 2008 (PDT)

Quote collection

I have a great collection of humorous quotes from the first three seasons here and for the first few episodes of the fourth season here.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, --   Steff    talk    contribs    email   03:39, 13 August 2008 (PDT)

Great, I'll (or someone else) add all/most of these when I/they get a chance. --Blueeagleislander 03:46, 13 August 2008 (PDT)

All quotes done

I think we now have enough quotes. I've gone through every ep (some didn't have any good ones though). --Blueeagleislander 08:24, 5 September 2008 (PDT)

BroodSquad: Why did you sign a quote, in the middle of a link no less? I'm fine with signing in the suggestions section.--Mc peko 17:50, 7 September 2008 (PDT)

I agree the quotes should be random, but not in such a way that the same comment can be displayed two days in a row. Every quote should be displayed before it's displayed again. Or something like that.--Mc peko 17:56, 7 September 2008 (PDT)

Peko, each quote is allotted a certain day of the year. Watch for some themed ones ;) --Blueeagleislander 00:32, 8 September 2008 (PDT)

Sounds great.--Mc peko 07:25, 8 September 2008 (PDT)

Links to quoted person

Should I add links to quoted persons on this page? I heard some talk about doing it on a template, but didn't quite grasp the concept.--Mc peko 18:00, 7 September 2008 (PDT)

I made links, but they don't work. Why?--Mc peko 18:33, 27 September 2008 (PDT)

I suggest we move suggestions to a separate page. The page is getting too big already.--Mc peko 02:46, 10 September 2008 (PDT)

I added a few quotes from 5x09 (Namaste). Someone clumped the quotes together. The scene with Jack and Sawyer had a few good quotes. I broke it up for two reasons. A) I felt it was too long for it to be a quote of the day; though it is not my job to select the quote of the day. I was only assuming a dialogue going back and forth like that would be too long. B) Less importantly, the scene contained a few good quotes that can stand on their own. It was a reasonable edit to put it back together; however, I still feel it is too long to be considered a quote of the day. Would someone who is part of selecting quote of the day chime in please. ThanksPallacydenial 23:43, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Spoken phrases only

I'd like to see written stuff removed. For instance the 'Not yet.' bomb note.--Mc peko 18:35, 27 September 2008 (PDT)

Season 5 Quotes

I think we should wait to add any more quotes to Template:QotD until Season 5 airs. I think it would be good to include some Season 5 quotes, before they're all filled with Seasons 1-4. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 05:13, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Agree – There are enough quotes from seasons 1 - 4 --DerAndre (talk) 05:23, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Agree my initial plan was to remove some Season 1 - 4 quotes from the template when Season 5 started. Also, the template still has some days spare anyway. --Blueeagleislander 07:18, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Quote template options

  • BTW it is possible to use all of the quote template options such as "saidby" and "reference" in addition to "text". For example:

We have to go back Kate!

Jack, "Through the Looking Glass, Part 1"

-- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  22:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
  • I think it would look better if it was like this (have the linked name go first, and then the episode link last):

JACK: We have to go back Kate!
-"Through the Looking Glass, Part 1"

-- CTS  Talk   Contribs 22:26, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

  • I'm not quite sure I agree, since that is more of a formal transcript usage rather than a formulation normally used in mass media for citing quotes-- I suspect this form got to be familiar to regular users who are copy-pasting the quotes from the Lostpedia transcript articles, but it is not standard use in other contexts... but just in case that is the direction we go, please see the following sandboxed alternate templates for such transcript-form usage:
Template: User:Santa/quoteqotd
Examples: User:Santa/sandbox/quote (see the last example as well, in which Jack is inserted into the quote text itself, while the "saidby" field is empty.) btw i'm getting an extra line break in one-line quotes, which needs fixing.

  • And to get back to the main point, which was that whatever cosmetic formatting we choose to do, the content in the QoTD mainpage block should probably include the quote's source reference, which is usually an episode. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk  23:22, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I think either format would be fine. -- CTS  Talk   Contribs 03:44, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I think the name first has to be the format, since we have conversations between two or more people, rather than just single person quotes. I tried but that looks odd, and you aren't sure who said what quote:

That's exactly what I was doing. I'm a lifeguard. I'm licensed.
Yeah, well, you need to seriously think about giving that license back.

Boone & Jack, "Pilot, Part 1"

If you separate the quotes, you get the last entry overriding the first one(s). ---- LOSTonthisdarnisland 05:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Selection Process

How are the quotes selected each day? Can we vote on them? Does someone just pick a new one everyday? How does it work? -Writerstix 14:32 (EST), 29 January 2009.

Last year, there was a lengthy process in which Lostpedians picked ~365 quotes to be placed onto Template:QotD, which is what is on the main page. Sysops have the final say in what is included and excluded, as they the only editors with access to the template. The template will be periodically updated as Season 5 continues. --Blueeagleislander 06:15, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Is there someone who checks over all the quotes before they are added? The other day there was a quote from season 3, episode "Enter 77" in which Sawyer said to the beach camp, "Quid pro quo"...but we have it as "Quick pro quo". Just kinda funny to me and I thought I would ask. -- SawBucks  Talk  Contribs  11:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Comics on Comics

A link to the video the quote I added comes from is here: There's 7 videos in all, and some great stuff in them. --Gluphokquen Gunih 16:38, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Season 6 Quotes?

When will the QOTD have Season 6 quotes? I'm assuming that some people must be working on it but I would like to know a predicted date on when we'll start seeing some Season 6 quotes in the QOTD section. --Ultimatefanboy 20:55, June 5, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, what happened here?! Earlier today, I saw some Season 6 quotes in the QOTD page! I became very delighted to know that somebody or some people decided to finally put some Season 6 quotes in the QOTD page! However, when I just visited the QOTD page now, the Season 6 quotes are gone! What happened to the Season 6 quotes?! Why were they removed? I was actually going to contribute some Season 6 quotes myself (i.e., "What happened?", "I want to go home") but I obviously don't want to now if the previous set of Season 6 quotes were removed. I would appreciate if some one left an explanation detailing on why the Season 6 quotes were removed the QOTD page.--Ultimatefanboy 05:11, June 18, 2010 (UTC)
