  • In general, the chat remains "unofficial". Most of the currently active sysops have dropped by, and Admin dropped by too. Admin was thinking of getting a dedicated irc server that he can administrate as a subdomain (e.g. irc.lostpedia.com). However if that doesn't happen before October when S3 starts, I'd like to lobby for making this channel the official one for now, and listed on the front page portal before S3 begins. Thank you for your consideration. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 15:12, 10 September 2006 (PDT)

foul language[]

i have a problem with this. whilst LP is a site accessible to most, which ranks highly on alexa, it would take considerable effort to arrive at the LP chat page - these are words, folks. whilst denying certain words on article pages is commendable, denying words in irc is a different matter. it's prohibiting free expression. i, for one, am fond of using said words for emphasis. --kaini. 23:21, 28 October 2006 (PDT)

  • Sorry, not understanding your question. What is "this"? I'm not seeing anything in the page history that clarifies your comment. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 00:25, 29 October 2006 (PDT)
    • Ohhh NM. Someone wrote a false description of the bot. It has no such function. I think this is in regard to the fact that some opped bots in some channels can in fact do this (as well as many other functions such as voicing users in moderated channels, controlling spamming, etc.) In fact, there doesn't need to be a description on the chat article regarding entertainment functionality of text triggers. I'm just learning how to write the scripts anyways, so it's all very low key. Drop me a line (or .memo Santa xxxx) in chat and I can explain. For now: editing article. -- Contrib¯ _Santa_ ¯  Talk 00:27, 29 October 2006 (PDT)

Link[]

Hey, the top link still is not working for me, even after getting "fixed"... is it just me? --PandoraX 17:12, 7 February 2007 (PST)

  • It's an irc protocol link that should launch your irc client, but if that isn't setup right it may not work. I've never really liked them :P -- Paladine<c.t> 18:25, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Trouble connecting[]

Sometimes I can't get in, and I get a message like this: "This ISP suffers from an abusive network administrator who used his access to compromise a staff members account.."

And then it says it will try again in 15 seconds. After failing again, it tries in 30 seconds, then a minute, but never connects. Sometimes closing all windows and/or rebooting my computer helps (reminds me of the old joke about if Bill Gates had invented automobiles...). But most of the time I have to wait until "something" decides it's in a better mood. Any tips?--Andreabt 20:32, 6 June 2007 (PDT)

What does this page say: [1] -- Paladine<c.t> 08:37, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
People running at least one of the servers don't like your ISP. Your system having nothing to do with it, I guess you can probably save yourself the trouble of rebooting. What Paladine suggests above is that there may be temporary bans on your ISP, which might last a couple hours. Then you may have to wait it out and it lets you connect when the ban expires. Or I believe there may be a permanent ban on your ISP from one or several of the servers. If you try to connect through different servers, see if it consistently works with some servers and denies access only with some other servers. Then stick to connecting specifically through those servers than let you connect. -- Cheers (talk) 09:46, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
Hmmm...Paladine's link (at the time I'm writing this) says "Checking for a G-line on 'adsl-70-133-105-130.dsl.bltnin.sbcglobal.net' (70.133.105.130)...0 G-line found for your host." Does that line up with the theory?
I think I understand what you mean about connecting through different servers, but I'm not sure I have much choice. --Andreabt 19:18, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
"0 G-line found" means it didn't find a "G-line" temporary ban on your ISP at that moment in time. Did it let you connect then? The idea is to compare that information with the times when your connection is accepted or refused, so you can know if the refusals match the times when the check finds a G-line. However, there may be some other type of ban on your ISP. About servers, why don't you have a choice? This is a list of the available gamesurge servers. I'm only speculating, but you could check if there's a pattern of which servers let you connect and which don't. -- Cheers (talk) 21:05, 8 June 2007 (PDT)
That list of servers was VERY helpful, thanks. I tried several until I found one that worked. I was under the impression the server that was disliked was on my end, not IRC end. Maybe I am just hopelessly ignorant (this is likely the case!)But in any case, I will hang onto that list. Thanks a heap.--Andreabt 19:47, 9 June 2007 (PDT)

I get 'Cannot send to channel' message on both my computers. What's up with that? I use mIRC and live in Norway. I can see what people write. I've had this problem for about a week.--Mc peko 21:30, 25 May 2008 (PDT)

That is because the channel is muted and only Channel operators or peons (Voiced users) can talk. ZukaRasami 23:58, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Separate channel for spoilers?[]

While I couldn't agree more on the current development on Lostpedia regarding spoilers, I think it would be a good idea to have a separate channel for spoiler discussions for those who can't resist. My hope is that this could ensure that (light) spoiler discussions aren't dragged into the current main channel. I realize that it might be hard to find somebody to run it, though (I certainly don't want to). One alternative could be to just point to the channel without any moderation. Opinions on this? --MacCutcheon Talk? 13:36, 26 February 2008 (PST)

We have #lost-spoilers. You probably know about this by now. And, yes, it's nice to have spoilers on a separate channel.--Mc peko 22:04, 25 May 2008 (PDT)

Tabbed browsing[]

It says that "if you are use tabbed browsing" (note grammatical error anyway) that you will be disconnected, but I am using tabbed browsing and I wasn't disconnected; there is no particular reason for this claim, does anyone know why it was made? Kidburla 15:47, 18 March 2008 (PDT)

What do you mean by 'it'? Are you referring to the Java alternative? I do not have a real answer, but it could have to do with multiple connections / spam / flood problems.--Mc peko 21:36, 25 May 2008 (PDT)

I'm not sure what this means, but yes, the more connections you have within a browser, the more likely you are to time out on the channel. A possible fix for this is to increase your number of pipes, this should be included in the article. --<BauerUK> tlk | cnt | www | irc 05:59, 20 July 2008 (PDT)

Yaplet[]

Just an idea. Maybe we should have a Yaplet link as an alternative to the IRC chat. For example: http://go.yaplet.com/?url=http://www.lostpedia.com/ , see Yaplet.com. --Hugo815 06:18, 1 April 2008 (PDT)

Gamesurge[]

I never thought I'd see another Wikia wiki that had a channel on gamesurge besides #Valkyrie_movie but thats beside the point, if your having problems with gamesurge why not switch to Freenode.net? That is where most Wikia wiki's have their channel. ZukaRasami 23:56, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Why do you say "if you're having problems"? We've discussed moving to Freenode, but we are already established on Gamesurge, and there isn't a damming reason to move. --stlgirl 04:16, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Why is the channel gone?--Mc peko 08:08, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, why is it gone? I'm curious, too. brendotroy 04:36, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

I would like to know as well. LOST-Merick 03:41, May 24, 2010 (UTC)
