Lost contains numerous references to the Bible. The Bible is the Holy Book of Christianity, and comprises 66 books written over a period of approximately 1,600 years (1500 BC - 100 AD) by 40 authors. Many Biblical references and parallels have been evident throughout the storyline. The tail section survivor Eko was a priest who carved many Biblical passages onto his stick. Eko also found a hollowed-out Bible in the Arrow, and told Locke about Josiah, from the Biblical passage in 2 Kings 22. Several episode titles contain direct references to the Bible, including "Numbers," "Exodus," "The 23rd Psalm," "Fire + Water," "Stranger in a Strange Land," and "316." Several characters share names with Biblical people, including Adam and Eve, recently revealed to be Mother and the Man in Black, is a direct reference to the Genesis account from the Bible.
