Death

Arzt was a candidate, but once he had told the other survivors how to handle the dynamite, he was killed abruptly, presumably because he had paved a path for the other survivors and was no longer required to be a candidate.

Name origin

Leslye Arsht is the name of an American woman who acted as a senior advisor to the Minister of Education in Iraq for 9 months after the war. See White House bio for more info.

On the Island

• He moved to the caves after Arzt & Crafts but after Claire got attacked in Raised by Another he moved back to the beach, where we saw him in Exposé.

In the flash-sideways timeline

• Stared at Sayid in the alternate timeline because he was jealous that Sayid had someone to love, unlike Arzt who was ditched in Australia.

• In the original timeline, he takes Ben's role in the X timeline.
