Fasterfriends

English cover of the comic book read by Hurley and Walt

Hurley brought a Spanish translation of a Green Lantern and Flash comic book entitled Green Lantern/Flash: Faster Friends Part One (1997) [1] aboard Oceanic Flight 815. ("Exodus, Part 2") Walt later found this comic amidst the wreckage. ("Pilot, Part 2")

Polar bear

Badbear3

The polar bear as it appears in the comic ("Special")

See main article: Polar bear

Walt's father, Michael, threw the comic book into the fire after questioning him as to where he got it. Soon after, Walt was attacked by a polar bear similar to the one featured in the comic book. ("Special") As a child, Walt had received a gift of a stuffed polar bear from Michael. ("Adrift")

Castle

Castledome

What appears to be a castle on top of a dome over the ocean, from the comic book ("Special")

On the next page of the comic book, there is what appears to be an image of a castle or fortress in the middle of the ocean surrounded by a giant, glass dome, The image, found on page 34 in the comic book, shows the "castle" to actually be spires on the top of a shiny metal flying saucer buried in the frozen wastelands of the Arctic. ("Special") Later, in Season 2, Desmond returns to the Island, telling the survivors that the island is "like a snow globe. There's no way out." ("Live Together, Die Alone, Part 1")

Synopsis

Green Lantern and Flash attacked and defeated a crashed alien known as "Alien X", without checking to see if it was hostile. Realizing their mistake, they hid the ship where it could not be found. Alien X, who had developed cancer as a result of testing at a government lab, escaped fifteen years later. It was not a coincidence when the original Green Lantern and Flash disappeared at the same time. Their wives called on the modern Green Lantern and Flash, who found the ship, but it was blown up by Alien X. The story continues in Faster Friends #2.

Trivia

  • The animated Justice League cartoon, set in the same universe as the comic, featured episodes called "Tabula Rasa" and "Hearts and Minds". These are both Lost episode titles.
  • Many of the Lost writers and production team are professed fans of the comic book genre and/or former/current comic writers themselves.
