• Was told by someone like Desmond of Ms. Hawkins not to fly that day because the plane was going to crash. He only half believed it, but asked Seth to fly just to clam his nerves. The result was Seth's death and the universe course correcting to bring Frank to the island anyway; would not have died like Seth because he wouldn't have stuck his head out the window.
• The man Frank talked to about Seth Norris was Martin Keamy
• Frank Lapidus is "special." He is associated with Abaddon, who found Locke and may be tasked with finding special people. When Abaddon defended his choices of Lapidus, Miles, Charlotte and Daniel to Naomi, he was insistent that these people be part of the mission. Like Locke, these people may have premonitions of their future. Lapidus may have had a premonition of the crash of Flight 815 and this is the reason he chose not to fly that day and blames himself for the death of the pilots. Their premonitions may have made finding the island possible, and this was the reason Abaddon chose them.
• Was replaced by Seth Norris because he was known to be an alcoholic.
  • More specifically, perhaps, because he turned up drunk on September 22nd and therefore was barred from the cockpit.
    • Alternatively, he may have missed out on flying on the 22nd for some as yet unknown reason, and then became a drunk because of his guilt over Seth Norris' death.
• Matthew Abaddon arranged for him to be bumped from Flight 815.
• Due to his call to Oceanic Airlines, and the awareness of a cover-up, Matthew Abaddon recruited him.
• His injuries occurred while the helicopter was flipping around in turbulence, so they happened before he landed the helicopter. Or possibly after landing he was dizzy and fell upon or after exiting the helicopter.
• He has a mysterious connection to the properties of the island which allows him to be an incredible pilot (he himself doesn't even realize this). Thus, he was the only one who could successfully get a plane to and from the island (with Daniel's help). Matthew Abaddon was aware of this connection, which is why he recruited him.
• He is one of freighter's "good people".
• Frank's destiny was to fly a plane to the island, which is why he was supposed to fly flight 815. For some reason, he was prevented from flying the plane and instead will fulfill his destiny by flying the Oceanic 6, dead Locke, and the others who left back to the island.
  • Being the only one who could have successfully landed Flight 815 or at least done so without destroying the plane, due to his amazing flying abilities, the Island had to course correct to allow the Jack, Locke etc. survive the crash.
• Frank memorized the manifest so that when he arrived on the Island, he would know if he met a survivor of Flight 815.
• Frank memorized the manifest because he was guilty about Seth Norris crashing the plane where-as Frank feels that he could havemade it to L.A.
• The helicopter crash following the Island's disappearance gave a chance to eliminate Frank, but just as the ISland would not allow Michael's death, it didn't allow Frank's either - even thought his knowledge could be a serious threat, working for Abaddon/Widmore. He will play some part in its future, possibly ferrying one or more of the Oceanic Six back onto the Island.
• Frank was on the island before with Abaddon and they escaped the island following the required coordinates.
• Frank survived the Ajira Airways flight 316 crash and is now on the island.
