- This is the purpose of the listening station from episode "Live Together, Die Alone, Part 1". Scientific instruments detect an "Electromagnetic Anomaly."
- The Electromagnetic Research Initiative has a direct correlation to the huge magnetic force that was contained by punching in the numbers every 108 minutes.
- This project is why Dharma or the Others chose to research on the Island.
- According to a theory, posed by posters on DarkUFO, electromagnetism provides an answer to one the riddles of the island, why it can't be found, as well as supporting evidence for Desmond's time travel after the implosion, and some of the medical anomilies of the island. They pose that the embodiment of James Maxwell's theories were put to the test by the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII in the Philadelphia Experiment. This was the Navy's attempt to render a ship invisible by bending light through the use of a strong electromagnetic field. Rumors have circulated for years that the ship was rendered invisible, teleported to another location, and traveled through time, all themes of Lost. They also point out that the island may be in a Closed timelike curve.
- The so-called Philadelphia Experiment never happened. James Maxwell never proposed anything in support of such ideas. There is nothing in the science of electromagnetic fields that suggests time travel, invisibility or healing effects have any association with magnetism. It also doesn't seem likely for the Island to be in a CTC given the various conditions necessary.
