The Island began to die as he made his way to the Elizabeth in order to leave the Island forever however the then protector of the Island - Jack Shephard chased him down and the two fought, The Man in Black got the upper hand and stabbed Jack with a knife, before he could murder him however he was shot in the back by Kate Austen, Jack then kicked The Man in Black off a cliff to his death. Jack Shephard | Jack chose to be Jacob's replacement to protect the source of the Island and stop The Man in Black from extinguishing it. He failed, however, and was stabbed during a fight between him and and The Man in Black, only rescued at the last second by Kate Austen. Jack knew he had to try to put the light back on in the source of the Island and said goodbye to Kate and his friend James Ford, he made Hugo Reyes his replacement as he knew his death was coming. He was successful and managed to put the light back on, saving the Island. Jack was then transported to the jungle and took his last walk back to the bamboo field where he regained consciousness after the crash of Oceanic Flight 815, he fell to the jungle floor and died.
