  • The Others under Richard discovered the map in the jungle after Daniel disappeared in the time flashes. They added hieroglyphs as secret notes when reviewing the map and placed it for posterity in the Hydra station.
    • Alternatively, Daniel placed the map in his journal and it later fell in the ands of Eloise in 1977. She gave the map to Charles and the Others maintained it for thirty years, writing the hieroglyphic notes at some point.
  • The apparent latitude/longitude directions point to wells where one can find wheels or access to the Source and could be sent off Island. 0°N, 21°E would send someone into the Democratic Republic of Congo while 8°N, 33°E would send someone to the Sudanese/Ethiopian border. The Hieroglyphic note of "Time of kings/ancients" points to a well/station that could send someone into the far ancient past.
