There is a cliffside cave on The Island. Inside the cave is Jacob's Wall. The cave also contains a balance scale with a white stone on one pan and a black stone on the other, along with an oud and other objects presumed to belong to Jacob.

Jacob's Wall

Names Cave

Sawyer examines Jacob's wall.

Jacob's Wall first appears in "The Substitute". It is a cave wall covered with the last names of people, apparently those who have visited the Island. Each name is preceded by a number. When we first see Jacob's Wall, all of the names are crossed out except for those preceded by one of The Numbers. The Man in Black crosses out Locke's name in "The Substitute".

General

  • Jacob's wall has the names of the candidates for Jacob's replacement to protect the island.
  • The candidates were revealed in the following order, with corresponding numbers - 23 – Shephard, 8 – Reyes, 16 – Jarrah, 42 - Kwon (Jin or Sun, or Ji Yeon?) and 4 - Locke
    • Fact: if we operate numbers (23 + 8 + 16 - 42 - 4) result is 1.
  • Kate Austen was not seen to be one of the candidates.
  • It appears that most of the names on Jacob's Wall are male characters. This could be proven wrong with the names Littleton and Lewis referring to female characters. Littleton, however, could refer to her son Aaron, and Lewis could refer to Charlotte's father who is never mentioned, although it is implied that she was born and/or raised on the island.
