Astrology

  • Birds or fish often figure in Claire's storylines. So where Charlie's elements are apparently "Fire + Water", Claire seems associated with water (the maternal, bounty/nourishment, the soul) and air (communication, dreams, madness, the mind or spirit; see Par Avion). Eko baptizes her and Aaron as "spiritual insurance". The scripture John 3:05 on Eko's stick, which later becomes an important plot point, reads: "Jesus answered, 'I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.'" This may all sound rather naff, but then Claire herself is a tad New Age...
    • Given that we know Claire's birthday, and the fact that she's been the only Survivor that we know of, other than Ben, to have celebrated a birthday on the show (which provided us with her birth year), as well as her interest in astrology, I decided to set up a chart for her since any amateur astrologer would have enough information to set up a preliminary chart, and may in fact be an Easter egg put in by one of the astrology-savvy writers to see if any secrets could be gleaned; also, Claire offered to set up Kate's birth chart for her, so this would be something Claire would be more than able to do for herself and would show us what Claire knows about herself through astrology, which might have influenced some of her actions. All of Claire's planets are in Air, Water, and Fire signs (no matter what time she was born), and the primary emphasis is on Water and Air, with Fire in astrology often associated with spirit. Her Sun and possible Moon signs also jibe with what we know about her and about what those planets indicate in astrology about our parents, our attitudes towards and with them, and how we integrate the Animus and Anima we get from them in our own psyche. Some of the things associated with her Sun sign Scorpio are intelligence, death, mysteries, secrets, magnetism, traumatic experiences, sex, stubbornness, destruction, transformation, rebirth, loyalty, other people's money, buried things, and taxes. Her Moon sign would be Aquarius (an Air sign) if she was born before 7:12 p.m. Sydney time and Pisces (another Water sign) if she was born after; I tend to go more with the Aquarius moon because the things it symbolizes, which include modesty, airplanes, astrology, accidents, eccentric behavior, psychic sensibility, restlessness, detachment, electricity, and rebellion, are more apropos to Claire than the Pisces symbolism (which Charlie is much more representative of) though baptism and Jesus are definitely Piscean concepts.
      • There are two types of charts to be set up in case of an unknown birth time: a dawn chart and and a noon chart. Birth time is essential for determining the Ascendant, one of the most important parts of a birth chart along with the Sun and Moon. The Ascendant allows us to see which areas of our lives are affected by the different planets and signs. If Claire were born around dawn, the Ascendant would be in Scorpio, and the chart would be weighted more towards Water; this type of chart sets the tone of the day in question and is widely used by astrologers for unknown birth times. If she were born around noon, the Ascendant would be in Aquarius, and the chart would be weighted more towards Air; this type of chart shows the potential of the day, displays the mean or average placements of the planets on that day, and is not as widely used as the dawn chart. It is interesting to note that both charts accentuate either the Sun sign or (possibly) Moon sign.
      • Some of the things associated with her Sun sign Scorpio are intelligence, death, mysteries, secrets, magnetism, traumatic experiences, sex etc. These 6 attributes related to Claire's Sun sign Scorpio play apart in Claire's life/the mystery of Lost. Claire seems to be very intelligent and aware of her surroundings, Claire almost caused her mother's death and Claire must deal with her on-island romance, Charlie's death. A big mystery surrounds Claire with her abduction and why the Others wanted her so bad, Claire may have kept a secret about her true involvement with the car accident in "Par Avion". Electromagnetism plays apart in Lost (although not really anything to do with Claire), Claire has had a lot of traumatic experiences: Her being the cause of her Mother's induced coma, Thomas leaving her when she was pregnant, the Crash, being abducted by the Others and losing her memory and dealing with Charlie's impending doom. Claire was using protection when having sex with Thomas although this didn't seem to work as she had gotten pregnant anyway.

Biblical Descent

  • In biblical terms, Aaron was the great-great-grandson of Jacob. It could be possible that this is made reference throughout the show in the future, indicating that Claire and Jack may be the great-grandchildren of Jacob. Although Aaron's father, Thomas could be Jacob's great-grandchild.
    • The line of descent is Jacob to Levi to Kohath to Amram to Aaron. If Amram is the equivalent of Thomas, who are the other men?
    • Aaron's mother Jochebed (Claire) is Levi's daughter and Amram's aunt. So, she is simultaneously Aaron's mother and great-aunt. Levi would be the equivalent of Christian on the show, meaning Christian Shepard is the son of Jacob.
  • Jacob's other children include - Isaac, Diane, Joseph [[1]], Benjamin, and Dan (Daniel).
  • In Charlie's dream that mirrors the The Baptism of Christ, Claire appears very Mary-like. If Claire is Mary, Aaron is Christ...savior of the Island? Jesus is a descendant of Jacob.

Unseen Past

  • Claire's car accident may have been a planned event similar to Juliet's husband's bus accident. Likely if Christian Shephard has more of a dark connection, as he tried to connect with her but was denied. He didn't even disclose his name.
  • Claire took extreme offense in "Raised by Another" when referred as "crazy" by Charlie. She had a similar reaction to Hurley when someone referred to him as "crazy". As a teenager, Claire couldn't deal with the sudden impact of finally meeting her biological father, surviving a fatal accident and her Mother being in an induced coma of which Claire thought she was the cause. She was admitted to a psychiatric hospital and whilst there, met a man named Thomas. They were released from the hospital around the same time and continued their lives together. The reason Claire took such an interest in Thomas was because all he did during his time in the hospital was paint therefore Claire knew how important Thomas' painting was to him.

Fertility Experiments

  • Had her blood drawn while being given vaccinations in The Staff.
  • Was meant, along with Aaron, to be a part of the DHARMA Initiative's and the Others' genetics/fertility-related experiments.
    • This has been proven to a degree, given that they were analyzing Claire to see if they could find a cure to their own fertility issues. And Aaron is probably the first child born on the island since Alex, and there is no indication whether fertility had become an issue when she was born or whether the Others were simply unable to capture and analyze Danielle before she gave birth.

Powers

  • Claire has telekinetic powers like Walt. She was having an argument with her mother while driving and made a lorry crash into their car. Claire did not appear to witnesses to be the guilty party. She was never prosecuted.
    • However she does not seem to do anything like Walt while on the Island. Claire's accident just happened to be caused by the distraction of the argument.
      • Claire lost her powers when she came of age. This may concern other Losties as well.
  • Claire may not have powers, but Aaron might. He usually is crying when someone is in danger or dying.
  • Claire somehow gained powers after her near-death from the freighter attack. She claims to have been seeing things and later saw her father Christian Shepherd in the jungle.

Death theories

  • Claire is dead (allowing for the idea she may be "dead" in the same sense that Christian Shepard is dead). She did not die at the barracks. Hurley, Sawyer, Locke et al have been interacting with and possibly touching her (definitely touching in Sawyer's case her) since the RPG round hit her house.
  • She suffered blow to head in the explosion and then was very disoriented. Sawyer commented and said "I got her bell rung but I'll be fine and then after when asked how she was feeling she said she had a headache but was fine. Victims that have had head injuries often feel fine but then later they have brain hemmorage and it eventually kills them. It is a symptom of severe concussions.
  • Claire's last nurturing act as a mother is to feed (nurse?) Aaron, and lie down with him for the night. She dies, is absorbed by the Island and "awakes" to find Aaron apparently missing but actually in the arms of his grandfather, Christian. Together, they find a safe place to leave Aaron where Sawyer is sure to find him and leave for their ultimate meeting with Locke at Jacob's Cabin.
  • Miles' interest in Claire is based on realization that she is about to die. He asks to carry Aaron because this is his first experience with pre-death and he does know what will happen when Claire crosses over; he doesn't want Aaron to be dropped and killed.

In the Future

  • Claire will be reunited with Thomas and will become a family again with Aaron. Thomas left Claire perhaps for the same reasons Desmond left Penny (for noble reasons, to be reunited in the end with her) and this will become apparent to all later on. This also explains why Thomas was, at first, ecstatic about having a child and then suddenly not (between this time, the "intervention", possibly similar to what Desmond experienced).
    • When Claire tells Desmond about Thomas abandoning her, Desmond suggests that perhaps Thomas knew he wouldn't be a good father. This could be a little hint between the similarities in their storylines and the connection between Thomas and Desmond, and thus between Claire and Desmond.

Jacob's Cabin

  • Christian led Claire to Jacob's Cabin in order to keep her safe from the freighter people. Christian did this on behalf of Jacob, since he (and the Island) would not let Claire die as she is the only one who can raise Aaron, stated by Malkin.
  • If claire is the only one who can raise Aaron then why did she leave him in the jungle?
  • Claire can see Jacob - like Locke.
    • Locke only heard Jacob. ("The Man Behind the Curtain") Locke did, however, see Horace and Christian, neither of which are a) previously known to Locke, or b) proven to be Jacob. Only Ben and Hurley have seen Jacob ("The Beginning of the End")
      • Locke did see him, but only for a split-second. That's where the picture of Jacob sitting in his chair came from
    • She will stay on the island to be with Jacob and act on his behalf like Ben, Christian and Locke.
  • Claire is on Jacob's list.
  • Claire is staying on the island because Jacob would be able to cure Carole if she does, in a similar way to Juliet's staying on the island so Rachel could be cured.

Desmond's Flash

  • Desmond's flash about Claire getting into the helicopter with her baby did not happened because Charlie died. Up to that point, everything Desmond saw in his flashes happened besides Charlie's death. As far as we know, only part of what Desmond said to Charlie happened (the yellow light went out, and Charlie died).
    • Desmond's did see the flash but will not happen, given Claire's presumed "death," because the actress playing Claire stated that she could not commit to the future seasons of the show.
  • Desmond's flash of Claire and Aaron being carried away into the helicopter has yet to be fulfilled.
    • This flash may be a first hint of the events to occur at the end of the series.
  • Desmond lied to Charlie. He never saw Claire and Aaron get into the helicopter, instead he saw himself and Sayid leave the island in the helicopter.
  • Desmond actually saw Kate getting on the helicopter with Aaron, he thought it was Claire.
    • How can you mistake Kate with Claire? They're nothing alike.
    • Desmond said he saw Claire and Aaron get into a helicopter that left the island. When Kate and Aaron got into the helicopter it left the freighter, not the island.
