Chester is a pet rabbit owned by Ben when he was a member of the DHARMA Initiative in 1973.

Chester was a white, red-eyed young rabbit which Ben kept in his room as a pet. Ben later brought Chester to the sonar fence in a bag and pushed him toward the pylons to see if the fence was truly deactivated. It worked, and Ben followed Chester through the fence, then scooped him up and placed him back in the bag.

It is unknown what happened to Chester afterward, as he has not been seen since, but consider the lifespan of rabbits is known to be short, it is safe to assume that he has passed away long before the purge.

Trivia

Chester's name is not mentioned in the episode, but revealed in the original script of "The Man Behind the Curtain".
In a deleted scene of "Two for the Road", Hurley told Libby that he missed his hog, a pot-bellied pig also named Chester.
Damon Lindelof, in the Lost: The Complete Third Season (DVD) commentary says,"Ben's penchant for numbering his rabbits probably has something to do with fertility experiments."
