Personally, I think most of these are pretty useless pages - a reference to a song lyric doesn't deserve an entire entry on the song, but rather just an entry on the Allusions page. References that are pervasive, like Wizard of Oz, deserve a page, but most of these should be compiled & deleted. What do people think?--Jajasoon 19:56, 25 August 2006 (PDT)

Idea for Clean up

There are enough articles here to start thinking about sub-categorization. Proposed sub-categorization:

  • Cultural references
    • Referenced authors
    • Referenced books
    • Referenced cartoons
    • Referenced comics
    • Referenced games
    • Referenced movies
    • Referenced music

More categories would be added when appropriate.

This could be a lot of work, but I think this will be beneficial, and fun. Lost is not Lost without cultural references. --Dagg 22:03, 2 November 2006 (PST)

I'd instead go with:

    • Referenced authors
    • Referenced books
    • Referenced movies
    • Referenced music
    • Referenced religions (Bible falls in both that and books, but I'd opt with religious if I had to choose)
    • Referenced other

Take out cartoons or merge it as cartoons/comics (Voltron is the only one I see)

My one question is with subcategories... does it really make sense to have them? Sometimes dividing things up more actually creates more confusion, because people have to remember to put both the subcat and the main cat on, and then look for it as such. But if you mean this just in terms of a template, then that's a good idea. --PandoraX 22:14, 2 November 2006 (PST)

  • My original idea was to re-categorize all the Cultural references to be more specific, but I understand it can add to the maintenance. I'm not going to completely give up on this idea, but I think I'll just concentrate on a new template for now (next section).--Dagg 00:07, 3 November 2006 (PST)
  • Dagg, I think I misunderstood what you meant by "subcategorization"... I thought you meant creating subcats on the Category: Cultural References list. When I saw that you meant a portal (into other portals and lists), I really love that, and I think that works a lot better for navigation--good job. I'm going to add a "movies, TV, misc." cat also to bring in the other stuff that doesn't fall into those. --PandoraX 09:34, 5 November 2006 (PST)
  • You understood what I proposed perfectly. I decided to start working on the portal and navigation templates instead after I read your comment (does it really make sense) above :). Thanks for fixing up the image sizes on the portal, it looks better now. And the "movies, TV, misc." page is also a great idea.--Dagg 09:57, 5 November 2006 (PST)
  • Thanks, kudos to you as well for a good job. Great teamwork once again at Lostpedia! :) --PandoraX 14:31, 5 November 2006 (PST)

Tiny Fix

Is it possible to remove "culutral references" from the list of "cultural references"? --Ohmyn0 (talk) 09:41, 3 November 2006 (PST)

  • I think he just put it there so people can find the portal (which organizes things) if they are looking at the category list. --PandoraX 09:35, 5 November 2006 (PST)
