The Army camp was a camp of nine canvas tents set up by 18 soldiers of the United States Army on the Mesa in 1954 as a base of operations during the setup of the test hydrogen bomb Jughead.

A wooden firing tower for the bomb was erected nearby. The same year, the Others, under the direction of Richard Alpert, appropriated the camp and its gear after killing all of the soldiers. Richard claimed he had earlier given the soldiers the option to leave the Island peacefully, which they had refused, resulting in Richard having to go into uncalled for measures (killing them).
