Ana's mysterious rings[]

  • She possesses a series of similar looking cheap-looking silver rings on her wedding band finger. The rings are never addressed.
  • Sawyer makes the remark, "Are you married?" and sarcastically says she seems suited for it when she says no.
    • Sawyer possibly knew that the jewellery was purchased from himself and/or Cassidy from their con (where they sold necklaces, but may have continued to sell similar jewellery later like rings), and therefore later given to Ana as a phony gift, and decided to be snarky about it.
    • Peter, one of the two first customers for the con, may also know Ana Lucia personally, if he is saying "And Ana's birthday is next week" (and not Dana, as it is subtitled to be).
    • Jason McCormack may be Jason Arthur McCormack, i.e the other man who received the gold necklace alongside Peter. If he is, the fraud led to Jason being involved in a life of crime, causing him to shoot Ana Lucia. Therefore, Sawyer would be the chain reaction cause-and-effect for the dissemination of Ana Lucia's family (cancelled wedding and dead, unborn child).
  • By Sally Solves A Mystery (see here[1]): "Maybe the ring was purchased from Sawyer as part of an undercover investigation."
    • Possibly followed Sawyer to Australia as a private investigator, hoping to arrest him for fraud. That was the real reason she accompanied Christian.
      • She may have even called Big Mike or another friend in the force when she left Jack at the bar to update about his being deported. The dialogue when speaking to her mother later on suggests it was a separate conversation from the phone call she receives when speaking to Jack (she already mentioned being in Sydney while she was seated next to Jack).
    • When she was in the tiger pit, Ana Lucia says, "...hoping to find somebody", and then looks directly at Sawyer.

Spying on the Rafties[]

  • Recognized Sawyer from Sydney, so she had to know that either The Rafties weren't Others the whole time, but suspected they could be corrupted survivors of the crash with bad intentions, or Sawyer teamed up with The Others.
    • Seems unfazed when Michael says "40 of us made it". She only loses her act when Sawyer earnestly asks, "You were on it too?"
  • Possibly the backup US Marshal for fugitive Kate's return journey (because there'd usually be two for that job)? She automatically knew that the US Marshal (Edward Mars) was a man. As a female law enforcement officer, wouldn't she be more inclined to use gender-neutral pronouns asking, "You just happened to have his gun?" So it should've been "You just happened to have their gun?" Though if she was familiar with him, that's why she didn't.

Scoped out by Libby[]

  • The Day 26 segment of "The Other 48 Days" seems almost redundant to include in hindsight. It's just people walking with no dialogue. It appears when the scene was filmed, they intended to leave the audience with more to gouge from than what we got.
  • Day 26 Libby Ana Lucia Boomerang
Body language in the scene is a huge hint:
    • Ana Lucia stops to observe the ocean because she knows someone walking behind her is hovering and scoping her out. Her cop instincts kicked in, so she stopped walking. But Goodwin wasn't directly behind her in the lineup for that suspicion to be triggered, Libby was.
    • Also, Libby is in the middle between Goodwin and Ana. But she's closer in proximity to Goodwin, almost implying a closer alliance to him, not her. (Libby also included Goodwin in how many survivors there were from their camp to Michael.)
    • There is a brief moment Libby pierces over at Ana in a hostile manner when she's wielding the boomerang staff. This would imply she is an Other.
    • Ana's action here led Libby to slowly overtake her when walking but she looks back. Goodwin briefly pauses for a moment to look out at the ocean alongside Ana. Then Ana looks over in the direction of where Goodwin was when he walked off. Her face is blank at first, but then she gives a look of suspicion.
    • It seems as though Ana wasn't done suspecting a mole after Day 23 when Nathan died, and before Day 27 when Goodwin incriminated himself. So something happened in the interval we don't know about. She also doesn't incriminate Goodwin with any details from this day, so the idea of a second spy among the Tailies (especially with how much information Ben got from Goodwin without him getting caught sooner) would make a lot of sense.
  • The way the scene is shot, it is ambiguous if she is looking at both Libby and Goodwin, or just one person.

Ben's attack[]

  • Ben tried to kill her because he saw that she was not one of the good ones. Upon her saving his life, he assumed that she might be, but when his thanks were met with scorn, he thought otherwise.
    • Ben is a manipulative sociopath who committed genocide. So it's not likely he was judging by a framework of moral goodness. Rather, he was simply manipulating her to arouse guilt for her past—in an effort to preserve his own life.
  • He attacked her because she called the Others killers. Before he hit her he whispered "you insult us."
    • He may have whispered "We're scientists" as a retort to her calling them killers.
      • Not likely because before Ben blows a hole in the time capsule in the Orchid to get to the donkey wheel, he told Locke that this was another silly experiment the DHARMA Initiative worked on. This would indicate that he and the Others are not scientist as the DHARMA Initiative are/were.
