Outside the show and real life occurrences

• 42 is the number of cells in Connect Four.
• 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything, in Douglas Adams's five-book trilogy series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. When Arthur Dent in the past discovers that the question itself was, is or will be "What do you get when you multiply 6 by 9?", he says "I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe." However, within the later books, it is established that that was in fact not the actual question, due to Arthur, and most Human beings, being descended from interstellar travelers, and not the original primates of Earth, and is therefore not a part of the program to discern the question. It is found that, if anyone did know both the question and the answer to life, the universe, and everything, the universe as we know it would cease to be, and be replaced with something even more nonsensical.
  • The query "the answer to life, the universe, and everything" into Google (without the quote marks), produces the answer 42 by Google calculator (See the above).
• 42 is Fox Mulder's apartment number on The X-Files. Mulder also mentioned he saw Plan 9 From Outer Space 42 times on one episode.
• 42 is a game for four players played with dominoes.
• 42 is the number of the students participating in the fictional Battle Royale program, where the students must kill each other. The program usually takes place on an island.
• In a Pine-Sol commercial, the last winning lottery number announced when the commercial begins is 42.
• 42 is the name of one of the episodes of the new Doctor Who series which aired in the UK on 12th May 2007
• 42 appears in many of the works of Lewis Carrol (Alice in Wonderland), and is thought to hold a special importance to him.
• 42 appears multiple times in Disney/Pixar's movie Finding Nemo. There is a forgetful blue fish named Dory who is known for remembering the address of the dentist's office where Nemo is held captive in a fish tank. Dory's famous line: "P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney".
• In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet was to drink a potion which made her appear dead for 42 hours.
• In ancient Egypt, the 42 Principles of Ma'at were an important moral code, similar in many ways to the Ten Commandments.
• 42 Isis is a Main Belt asteroid named for the Egyptian goddess.
• Air force plant 42 is located in Palmdale, California.
• In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the "oldest rule in the book" is rule 42: "All persons more than a mile high to leave the court."
• The original version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland contains 42 illustrations.
• In "Alice Through The Looking Glass" the White King sends 4,207 horses and men to restore Humpty Dumpty, and seven is a factor of 42.
• Alice's age in TTLG is seven years and six months, and seven times six is 42.
• The time it would take an object to fall through the center of the earth (disregarding air resistance, rotation and the planet's molten core) is 42 minutes.
• In House MD, House says his lucky number is 42
• In the J.J. Abrams produced monster movie Cloverfield, the beginning and end of the movie take place at 6:42 AM.
• In "Family Guy", Brian's room number at the drug rehab is 42.
• In the Bible, Revelations 13:5 "And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months." The beast will reign for 42 months.
