A the Barracks shootout was a battle in which Jack, defending a wounded Sayid shot by Roger Linus, was fighting several DHARMA Initiative members, successfully killing at least two of them. The battle ended when Hurley, Jin and Miles came in a DHARMA van and helped Jack and Sayid escape.
Lead up
Jack and Sayid had emerged from the tunnels where Jughead was kept in the Goodspeeds' empty home, and needed to get out of the Barracks so they could get to the Swan site. Upon seeing the huge amount of DHARMA members outside, Sayid suggests they "hide in plain sight". They don the Goodspeeds' DHARMA uniforms and simply walk through the Barracks, past many security employees including Phil. They had almost made to the other side until Roger Linus recognised Sayid.
Conflict
The conflict started when Roger recognized Sayid in Horace's uniform and shot him after a holding him up at gun point for a short time. Jack trying to protect Sayid shot back, making Roger run back and making few other DHARMA Initiative members start shooting at Jack. While trying to take Sayid to safety, Jack shot and, presumably killed two of the shooters. At one point in the shootout, a DHARMA van drove towards Jack and Sayid, and it is only after Jack shoots at it that he realizes that the van, drove by Hurley, Miles and Jin came to help them flee. After Jin helps Jack load the wounded Sayid and himself in the van, they drive away from the Barracks.
Aftermath
Few of the DHARMA shooters were killed and Sayid was wounded. Even though their plan to get to the Swan station was revealed, they still got there on time to detonate the bomb immediately after the Incident.
